Kathleen Frieda Luper
Shawnee resident Kathleen Frieda Luper died Friday at her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Luper was born March 10, 1911, in Ardmore to William Thomas and Ada Almeda (Bradley) Majors. She married Sterling Arzo Luper on Jan. 2, 1934, in Okmulgee.
She graduated from Wanette High School, then graduated from Oklahoma A&M in 1932 with a degree in home economics and English. She lived in Wichita, Kan., until 1934, then moved to Oklahoma City. She moved to Shawnee in 1945 and was a member of the First Christian Church where she was secretary of the Berean Sunday School class.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Luper Cannon, Tulsa; two grandchildren, Philip Kib Cannon, Littleton, Colo.; Jana Cai and her husband Royce Larsen, Atascadero, Calif.; six great-grandchildren, Philip Stephen and Christopher Connor Cannon, Littleton, Colo.; Jacob Edwin, Nathaniel Kib, David LaMont and Saracai Larsen, Atascadero, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Nov. 21, 1987; two sisters and one daughter.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dan F. Reihing and Dr. James D. Sill Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Hubert L. Wiley
Shawnee resident Hubert L. Wiley died Friday in Midwest City. He was 58.
Wiley was born Jan. 21, 1942, in Rossville to Leo A. and Naomi (Armitage) Wiley. He married Sherry L. Weems on Aug. 28, 1965, in Okeene.
He graduated from Meeker High School and attended one year at the University of Central Oklahoma. He retired in 1991 from Tinker Air Force Base, where he worked in civil engineering.
He was a member of Hazel Dell Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge of Del City and was usher for the Oklahoma City Red Hawks for eight years.
He lived in the Shawnee area for 27 years, moving from Midwest City. He served on the Dale School Board for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Wiley, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Darin Greene and Shannon and Chris Griggs, all of Shawnee; four brothers, Jerry Wiley, Harrah; Ronny Wiley, Tulsa; Leroy Wiley, Shawnee; and Paul Wiley, Meeker; two grandchildren, Landon Greene and Ryanne Griggs, both of Shawnee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hazel Dell Baptist Church with Montie Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery, Lincoln County, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Ettie Hill Akin
Ettie Hill Akin of Shawnee died Friday at a local nursing home. She was 94.
She was born Aug. 30, 1905, in Tecumseh. She was the daughter of Abraham John Hill and Jimmie Edna (Elmore) Hill. She married Ralph L. Akin on Nov. 17, 1939, in Wewoka.
She taught school in Pottawatomie County for many years before she and her husband moved to California to work for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft.
Mrs. Akin was a member of the First Baptist Church. She had lived in Shawnee for approximately 37 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a niece, Vadene Foresee, Shawnee; nephew, Murrel Newsom, Tulsa; great-niece, Vicki Newsom Mellor, Calgary, Canada; great-nephews, Richard Foresee and Tom D. Foresee, both of Shawnee; Philip Newsom, Dallas, Texas; many great-great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services
will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Memorial Park Trinity Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Pence officiating, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Marsha Pledger
Tecumseh resident Marsha Pledger died Saturday at her home. She was 54.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.
Lillian L. Brooks
Lifelong Maud resident Lillian L. (Durbin) Brooks died Friday in Oklahoma City. She was 69.
Mrs. Brooks was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Tuskahoma to E.E. and Donna (Dozier) Durbin. She graduated from Maud High School in 1948 and owned and operated a beauty salon in Maud for more than 35 years. She was a member of the Maud First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Judy Brooks, Tecumseh; Lawrence and Elka Brooks, Shawnee; three brothers, Harlen Durbin, Oklahoma City; Ethan Durbin and Loy Durbin, both of McAlester; three sisters, Estell Ragland, Talihina; Hazel Burch, Clovis, N.M.; Shirlene Price, Arkansas City, Kan.; five grandchildren, Ashley and Shane Brooks, Shawnee; Amy Gladwell, Searcy, Ark.; John Paul Spear, Shawnee; and Deborah O'Dell, Tecumseh; one great-grandson, Jeremiah James, Searcy, Ark.; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Maud with Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Cummings Cemetery, Maud, under the direction of Knight Funeral Home.
Paul Ward
Harrah resident Paul Ward died Friday. He was 60.
Ward was born May 9, 1939, in Oklahoma City to James and Dottie (Ledbetter) Ward.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Withrow, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Carl Gene and Donna Ward and daughter Lauren, Harrah; daughter and son-in-law, Pauletta and Mike Filson and children Steven and Ashley, Oklahoma City; stepson Kenny Withrow and his wife, Melody, and children, Shawnee; stepson, James Withrow and wife Leslie and children, Harrah; stepdaughter, Sharon Gibson and husband Jack, Newalla; sisters, Shirley Lee, Wichita, Kan.; Jerry Odell, Harrah; brother, Bill Ward, Canton, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve Ward; brother, Carl Ward; sister, Lorene Cordray; aunts, uncles and a grandson.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Asa Smith Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah.
Troy Carpenter
Longtime Seminole resident Troy "Rip" Carpenter died Saturday in Shawnee. He was 83.
Carpenter was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Byars to Leck and Leona (Robinson) Carpenter. He married Gladys Marie Gammon on Aug. 21, 1937, in Ada.
He moved from Ada to Seminole in 1957 and was service manager for Bud Harmel Pontiac and Broadway Garage in Seminole. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seminole, V.F.W. and American Legion.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Charles David and Betsy Carpenter, Mustang; grandchildren, Mary Beth and Chris Hollars and Amy Lynn Carpenter; great-grandchild, Riley W. Hollars; sister-in-law, Ruby Morgan, Seminole; brother and sister-in-law, Frank B. and Evelyn Carpenter, Scamon, Kan.; two sisters, Joy Anderson, Oklahoma City; and Wanda and Roy Rogers, El Reno; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 30, 1999.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Zuma Pansy Hibbard
Lifelong Shawnee resident Zuma Pansy Hibbard died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 87.
Mrs. Hibbard was born May 28, 1912, in Shawnee to Rufus and Mattie Morrow Rigdon.
She graduated valedictorian of her class and was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Central Church of Christ.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Caroline Jordan, Grand Prairie, Texas; John L. and Barbara Jordan, Thornton, Pa.; two daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Herschel Coomer, Shawnee; Geraldine and Tom Haggy, Oklahoma City; grandchildren and their spouses, Randy and Mary Jordan, North Carolina; Ron and Jody Coomer, Bret Austin and Chet Austin, all of Oklahoma City; Lisa Coomer, Shawnee; Jason Feinberg, Orlando, Fla.; Shara Jordan, Exton, Pa.; and Leighann and Charles Farr, Texas; great-grandchildren, Lael Jordan, Washington, D.C.; Abigail Jordan, Norman; Gabriel Jordan, North Carolina; Brianna Farr, Texas; and Kyle Austin, Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Central Church of Christ with Robert Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Dock Henry Hearn
Dock Henry Hearn of Earlsboro died Thursday at his home. He was 91.
He was born Feb. 28, 1908, in Mississippi. He was the son of Gus Hearn and Lucy (Jones) Hearn.
Hearn retired from Tinker Air Force Base. He worked as a census taker for Seminole County and owned and operated "The Sweet Dreams Cafe" in Longview, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Wares Chapel in Earlsboro and member of the Seminole Masonic Lodge.
Hearn was valedictorian at Douglas High School in Oklahoma City and attended Langston University.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Survivors include one son, Cleo and Verna Hearn, Lancaster, Texas; four grandsons, Harlan, Wendell, Eldon and Robby Hearn, all of Lancaster, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Asia, Arisa, Rachel and Robbyn Hearn, all of Lancaster, Texas; one sister-in-law, Beulah Hearn, Oklahoma City; three nieces, one nephew and other family and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. R.L. Harris, the Rev. J.B. Moore and the Rev. Bobby Curry officiating. Burial will be at Earlsboro Cemetery.
Gertrude Nelson
Gertrude Nelson died Thursday at Colonial Park Nursing Home, Okemah. She was 96.
She was born Nov. 19, 1903, in Missouri. She was the daughter of James Isaac Dennis and Martha (Hollenbeck) Dennis.
She married James Columbus Nelson Nov. 21, 1949, in Arkansas.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of the United Pentecostal Church and a seamstress. She moved to Okemah from Muskogee in 1977 and was a resident of Colonial Park Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Nelson; parents; two sons, Thomas Andrew Myers Jr. and James Richard Myers; one daughter, Juanita Irene Coronian; and one stepdaughter, Shirley Young.
Survivors include her stepson, Larry Nelson, Muskogee; daughters, Dolly Bentley and Mickey Raines, both of Okemah; sister, Agnes Suiter, Okemah; son-in-law, Eugene Young, Fort Gibson; daughter-in-law, Clara Louise Myers, Okemah; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Pentecostal Church in Okemah with Brother David Shatwell officiating. Burial will be in Schoolton Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.
Wanda Bennett
Wanda Bennett of Harrah died Sunday. She was 62.
She was born Aug. 6, 1937, in Gracemont to Clarence and Jessie (Jennings) Singleton.
Survivors include her husband, Stacy, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Liz Bennett, Moore; daughter and son-in-law, Rochelle and Larry Morris, McLoud; mother, Jessie Henry, Harrah; sisters, Joyce Bussler, Harrah, Betty Conn, Las Vegas, Nev., and Velda Armstrong, Harrah; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

were 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jamieson Cemetery northeast of Harrah under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.
Donna Sue Miles
Donna Sue Miles died Friday. She was 35.
She was born Sept. 3, 1964, in Great Bend, Kan. She was the daughter of Johnny and Beverly (Dwyer) Griffith.
Mrs. Miles was a resident of Prague most of her life and graduated from Prague High School in 1982.
She married Chester "Butch" Miles on April 17, 1998. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Griffith in 1997; paternal grandparents, Steely and Pearl (Hopkins) Griffith and maternal grandfather, Carl Dwyer.
Survivors include her husband, Butch Miles of the home; one daughter, Rusty Griffith of the home; one son, Curtis Miles of the home; father, Johnny Griffith, Prague; three brothers, Steven Griffith, Prague; Mark and wife Debbie Griffith, Prague; Bo and wife Cheryl Griffith, Prague; five sisters, Cindy Cruce, Seminole; Janet Griffith, Prague; Carla Thompson, Shawnee; Terri Griffith, Prague; Melissa and husband, Michael Lee, Prague; grandparents, Jack and Betty Thompson, Wellington, Kan.; four nieces and five nephews.
