Ruth Cecilia McLain
Ruth Cecilia McLain, Wellston, died Thursday in Wellston. She was 76.
She was born in Wellston on April 20, 1924, the daughter of Virgil C. and Maggie H. (Foulks) Overstreet. She lived in the Wellston area for many years. On Sept. 20, 1941, she married Eartle C. McLain in Wellston.
Mrs. McLain, a homemaker, was a member of Missionary Baptist Church of Wellston.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, a son, a daughter, two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include a son, Virgil McLain of Wellston; and her sisters, Ernestine Hatchel of Arcadia; Martha Greenfield of Arcadia; Melba Blevins of Arcadia; Norma Reitz of Edmond, and Nancy Sarsycki of McLoud.
Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Wellston.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at Missionary Baptist Church in Wellston. The Rev. Bill Conley and the Rev. Marc Ary will officiate. Burial will follow at the Wellston Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.
Virginia Vann
Virginia Vann, 82, Harrah, died Thursday.
She was born to William and Mary (Few) Martin July 22, 1918, in Waverly, Tenn. She was a past president of The Red Rose Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband, Jack of the home; three sons, Jon Vann and Jim Vann, both of Harrah, and Jerry Vann of New Mexico; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Vann and Al Greene of Oklahoma City; four grandsons, Bobby Vann, Brett Vann, Jay Vann, Matt Vann; two granddaughters, Nancy Vann and Jill Jordan; one great-granddaughter, Madison Jordan; one brother, Bill Martin of Edmond; one sister, Helen Maroof of Oklahoma City and many other family members and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Asa Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Harrah, with burial at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah.
John P. Bryan
John P. Bryan, 83, Stroud, died Thursday in Prague.
He was born in Edna, Ark., on Oct. 21, 1917, the son of Arthur and Madine Bryan. He had been a Stroud resident for the past 38 years.
Bryan was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church in Stroud and had retired from ITT Oil Company. He served in U.S. Army during World War II.
On July 20, 1935, he married Opal Ellsworth in Beggs.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a son and 10 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; his brother, Lennard Bryan of Wetumka; his sister, Wilma Little of Shawnee; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many other relatives.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Assembly of God Church in Stroud. The Rev. Don Wilburn will officiate and burial will be in Stroud Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Services of Stroud.
Gary Holleman
Gary Holleman, 36, died Friday in Stillwater.
Services are pending under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Stroud.
Charles E. Caldwell
Charles E. Caldwell, 84, Harrah, died Friday.
He was born to James and Lula (McKinley) Caldwell Aug. 8, 1916, in Rubicon, Ark. He was in the U.S. Army and served in World War II.
Caldwell retired from Public Warehouse in 1973. Caldwell, who did box blade and tractor work, drove a school bus for the Harrah School System.
Caldwell had lived at the VA Center in Norman for the past four years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ruby Cumbie and Nell Herring; one brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Alice Caldwell.
Survivors include one nephew, Bill Cumbie and wife Mary of Harrah; two nieces, Mary Wiggins and husband Don of Phoenix, Ariz.; Delray Stump and husband LG of Breckenridge, Texas, and many other family members and friends.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah. Services are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.
Beatrice Booker
Beatrice "Bea" Booker of Shawnee died Thursday at a local nursing home. She was 88.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church. Services are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
Dorothy E. Gilbert
Dorothy E. Gilbert died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital. The Shawnee resident was 73.
She was born in Seminole Sept. 28, 1927, and grew up in Seminole. The daughter of Houston and Lillian Rosilee (Monday) Neale graduated from Seminole High School.
Mrs. Gilbert, a waitress, went through training at Lear-Stigler, Federal National Bank of Shawnee and Fidelity Bank in Oklahoma City. At the time of her death she was pursuing a career in home health care.
In November of 1969, she married Kenneth E. Gilbert in Oklahoma City. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, George M. Neale.
Survivors include her husband of Shawnee; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Jane and Steve Brown and Lillian and Troy Vaughn, all of Oklahoma City; brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Tresa Neale of St. Joseph, Mo.; two sisters-in-law and husbands, Gertrude and Clifford Gentry, Tecumseh; Linda and Butch Hall, Meeker; brother-in-law and wife, Charles and Joan Gilbert; stepson, Randell Gilbert of California; daughter-in-law Tanya Gilbert of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Randy and Jennifer Gilbert and Lori Dawn and Robert Mize, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Emmett Taylor will officiate and burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Mary Elizabeth Gabehart
Mary Elizabeth "Moon" Gabehart died Thursday in Chandler. She was 40.
She was born Oct. 27, 1960, in Oklahoma City, the daughter of James Edward and Lois (Kihega) Moon.
She was an accountant and was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Chandler.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Allen Gabehart.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher Gabehart of Beaumont, Texas, and Cole Gabehart of Wellston; three daughters, Tara Gabehart of Arkansas; Trena Gabehart of Perkins; Tresa Gabehart of Wellston; brother, James Moon of Perkins; two sisters, Frances Moon of Wellston; Kathryn Moon of Los Angeles; one grandson, Austin.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Chandler with Father David Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Oteo Cemetery, Red Rock.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.
William H. Poe
William H. Poe, 86, Shawnee, died Thursday at a local hospital.
He was born April 27, 1914, in Shawnee to Henry L. and Beatrice (Bohannon) Poe. He attended Bethel Schools.
Poe, a lifetime Shawnee resident, was a retired machinist for Shawnee Milling Co. He married Mildred Cowden July 21, 1947, in Sulphur.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Harvey Poe, and two sisters, Edith Coffman and Ethel Lacquement.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred C. Poe of the home; two sons, Henry Poe and Leslie Poe, both of Shawnee; special friend, Sherry Dietz, Shawnee; one granddaughter, Brandi Poe, Norman; two great-grandsons, Ryan and Tylor; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alwyn and Muriel Poe, Del City; Osmond and Lolita Poe, Miami, Fla.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruby and John Carpenter, Bethel Acres; Rachael Bergeron, Washington, Okla., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Herman Coffman officiating. Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Wanda Raye (Mullen) Nichols
Wanda Raye (Mullen) Nichols of Tulsa died Tuesday. She was 53.
She was born Jan. 11, 1947, in Seminole. She was the daughter of Roland Mullen and Bertha (Pixley) Mullen.
Mrs. Nichols graduated from Bowlegs High School. She was a certified caretaker in home health care.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Roland Mullen Jr.
Survivors include her brother, James Mullen of Konawa; three sisters, Sharon Cole of Newalla; Pauline Kessinger of Shawnee; Syble Wallace of Killeen, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kathryn Holcomb officiating. Burial will be at Wolf Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
George Walter Miller
George Walter Miller died Tuesday in Tulsa. He was 82.
He was born June 25, 1917, in Wellston. He was the son of Walter F. and Leola (Prough) Miller.
Miller had lived in the Carney area for many years.
He served during World War II in the Army Air Corp. During his active years he worked in the oilfield as a driller.
His parents, five brothers, two sisters and one daughter have preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, George Miller, Shawnee; eight daughters, Janis Ball of Agra, Gail Crary of Carney, Barbara Miller of Denver, Colo., Billie Jo Miller of Chandler, Nana Marie Miller of Yakima, Wash., Jackie Retan of Leola, Alaska, Judy Jackson of Houston, Texas, Tracy Thomas of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Forrest "Blackie" Miller of Bixby; four sisters, Dollie Jones of Moore, Flossie Kyser of Chandler, Leola Smith of Cushing; numerous grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Wellston Cemetery with the Rev. Donnie Molloy officiating. Burial will follow at the Wellston Cemetery, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.
Julia Mae Beal
Julia Mae Beal died Sunday, Jan. 30. She was 85.
She was born July 30, 1914 at Durant to Burton A. and Stella J. (Presley) James. She lived in Oklahoma City for the past 35 years after moving from Tecumseh.
She retired from Hertz. Mrs. Beal was a longtime member of Britton Baptist Church, where she was a member of the auditorium class.
She was also an active member of the Pinocchio Rose Garden Club. The last 10 years she belonged to South Park Baptist Church and belonged to the Telephone Ministry Sunday school class and the J.O.Y. group.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, James Keith; two brothers, Wendell James and Winifred "Bud" James; and one sister, Louise Seckel.
Survivors include daughter, Loretta Madden and husband, G.D. of Oklahoma City; son, Rex Beal and wife, Diana of Norman; three grandchildren, Kellye Newby and husband, Brian of Oklahoma City; Doug Madden and wife, Laura of Oklahoma City and Nicole Beal of Norman; four great-grandchildren, Ethan Newby, Maeghan and George Madden, all of Oklahoma City; a sister, Anna Lee Morley and husband Dick of Tecumseh; sisters-in-law, Esteen James and Opal James; brother-in-law, Milton Seckel; many nieces and nephews.
Services were Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Vondel Smith Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Burial was in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
