Adolph H. "Pete" Peterson
Longtime Stroud resident Adolph H. "Pete" Peterson died Saturday in Stroud. He was 98.
He was born Nov. 28, 1902, in Stroud to Adolph and Ellen Mary (Jensen) Peterson.
Peterson married Geneva Beard on Feb. 10, 1963, in Stroud. He owned and operated restaurants.
He was a resident of Stroud most of his life, a member of the First Baptist Church of Tulsa and was a captain in the Tulsa Shriners.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Patsy Ellis of Stroud; one nephew, Albert Peterson of Stroud; one grandchild, one great-grandchild and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Stroud Cemetery with the Rev. Burl Mackey officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Stroud.
Eula McAfee
Eula McAfee, Shawnee, died Wednesday in a local nursing home. She was 79.
Mrs. McAfee was born on April 28, 1920, in Pink, the daughter of Ebb and Nora Longest.
She married William "Jack" McAfee on Feb. 14, 1946.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Johnson Church of God, where she also taught Sunday school.
Mrs. McAfee was preceded in death by her husband, William McAfee; her parents, Ebb and Nora Longest; three sisters; four brothers; and a grandson.
Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Regina McAfee, Shawnee; Melvin and Lecretia McAfee, McAlester; two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy Jett, Shawnee; Clara and Bill Thompson, Shawnee; four brothers, John Longest, Oklahoma City; Gordon Longest, Shawnee, Claude Longest and Ancel Longest, both of Santa Maria, Calif.; a sister, Letha Atkinson, Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Scott and Summer McAfee, Jarrod Jett, Amy McAfee, Terry and Susan States, Rodney and Sarah Pryor and Janie McAfee; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson Church of God with Charles Higgins officiating.
Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.
Kenneth E. Guffey Jr.
Norman resident Kenneth E. Guffey Jr. died Tuesday in a Norman hospital. He was 40.
Guffey was born on Dec. 24, 1959, in Tainan, Taiwan, the son of Kenneth E. Sr. and Faye Guffey.
He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1978, and worked at General Motors.
He married Marie Martin on Sept. 22, 1979.
Guffey was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He grew up in Orlando, Fla., and moved to Shawnee in May of 1976.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth E. Sr. and Faye Guffey; and his grandparents.
Survivors include Terri Guffey, Shawnee; a son, Kenny Guffey, McLoud; daughter, Krissy Guffey, McLoud; two brothers, George D. Guffey, Orlando, Fla.; Tony Taylor, Shawnee; five sisters, Sharon Jones, Kissimmee, Fla.; Mary Brown, Orlando, Fla.; Patty Weaver, Oregon; Pam Taylor and Denise Mann, both of Shawnee; and several other relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Shawnee Regional Foundation.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee with the Rev. Jimmie Don Gibson officiating.
Burial will be in Neal Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
A.H. Holder
A.H. "Biggen" Holder, Maud, died Wednesday in a Norman hospital. He was 78.
Holder was born on March 28, 1921, in Coalgate, the son of Alfred and Annie (Potts) Holder.
He married Betty Jo McConnell on April 12, 1952, in Van Buren, Ark.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a lifelong Maud resident.
Holder worked as a driller for Bodard Drilling Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Holder; a son, Mike Holder; and his parents, Alfred and Annie Holder.
Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Vadair Holder, Maud; two brothers, Bob Holder, Turlock, Calif.; Bill Holder, Texas; three sisters, Ardean Posey and Lula Mae Arbuckle, both of Seminole; Jewel "Doll" Arbuckle, Duncan; two grandchildren, Bridget Hester and Michael Holder, both of Maud; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Hester, Maud.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Cummings Cemetery in Maud with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.
Services are under the direction of Knight Funeral Home in Maud.
Lorraine Ethel Clutts
Shawnee resident Lorraine Ethel Clutts died Tuesday in Shawnee. She was 81.
Mrs. Clutts was born on Dec. 28, 1918, in Richland, Mo., to Joseph William and Annie Mae (Manes) Tanner.
She received a 12th-grade education and married Roy David Clutts.
She worked for Chilles Catering and was a member of the Central Church of Christ.
Mrs. Clutts grew up in Richland, and moved to Granite City, Ill. at age 18. She moved to Shawnee in 1980.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Clutts; her parents, Joseph and Annie Tanner; and a sister.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Leatherman, Citrus Heights, Calif.; Janet L. Menzies, Edwardsville, Ill.; Judy and Earl Finch, Shawnee; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home with Don Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Hazel B. Steed
Former Shawnee resident Hazel B. Steed died Tuesday in Austin, Texas. She was 94.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Shawnee.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.
J.D. McQuerry
Longtime Shawnee businessman J.D. McQuerry died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 64.
He was born April 12, 1934, in Childress, Texas, the son of Claude and Ora Mae McQuerry. The family moved to Oklahoma when he was a child and he attended schools at Varnum. He married Patricia G. Bowlan on March 3, 1955, and they moved from Seminole to Shawnee.
He started his automobile business in July 1959 and it continues to operate as McQuerry Motors at its original location on Harrison Street.
McQuerry was a deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church and a member of Shawnee Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Pat McQuerry, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Kenneth Austin, Bartlesville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Marcia McQuerry, Shawnee; mother, Ora Mae Harris, Shawnee; father, Claude McQuerry, Meeker; brother and sister-in-law, Earl Gene and Carol McQuerry, Meeker; sister, Claudie Bailey, Shawnee; four grandchildren, Jessica Austin and Lindsay Austin of Bartlesville, and Jacob McQuerry and Kathryn McQuerry of Shawnee.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church building fund.
Ima Lee McCarty
Tecumseh resident Ima Lee McCarty died Friday in Shawnee. She was 79.
Mrs. McCarty was born June 3, 1919, in Weleetka to Douglas and Izalla Mount Young. She married Ernie Woods in 1934. After his death, she married Homer McCarty in Oklahoma on June 19, 1961.
She was reared in the Weleetka area before moving to Oklahoma City. She worked as a telephone operator in a physician's office for more than 20 years and retired in 1972. She also worked as a cook and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Woods, in 1951; her second husband, Homer McCarty, on Dec. 17, 1996; her parents; and nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara Joan Ellenburg, Bethany, and Judy Bay, Tecumseh; two sons, Mike Woods, Palo Alto, Calif., and Bobby Woods, Tennessee; brother, Elmer George Young, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Nolen officiating.
Robert Gilbert Bowlan
Little Rock, Ark., resident Robert Gilbert Bowlan died Saturday. He was 72.
Bowlan was the son of the late L.S. Bowlan and Ada P. Bowlan. He married Frances Boykin in 1987 in Dallas, Texas, and moved to Little Rock in 1992.
He was a retired financial officer for Commercial Credit Corporation. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy and served in the South Pacific. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Boykin Bowlan; his mother-in-law, Anna L. Boykin, Little Rock; son, Craig Bowlan, Ventura, Calif.; and his sister and brother-in-law, Thera M. and Ray Mattoon, Oakland, Calif.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Rex M. Horne officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, Little Rock, Ark.
Ella Joy Lyday
Longtime Konawa resident Ella Joy Lyday, 73, Tulsa, died Friday.
She was a self-employed seamstress.
She is survived by her son, Arthur Gene Johnson; daughters Sharon Wilkenson, Denise Berndt, JoAnn McKinzie and Jeannie Truman; and seven grandchildren.
Services were held 10 a.m. Monday in the Butler-Stumpf Funeral Home Chapel, Tulsa.
Burial was in Konawa Cemetery.
