Violet Bivins died Friday in Shawnee. She was 84.
Funeral services
will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Rider and Rev. Lonnie Hurst officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.
Other information is pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Susan O'Neill Richmond
Susan O'Neill Richmond of Shawnee died Friday. She was 47.
She was born Nov. 24, 1952, in Broken Arrow. She was the daughter of Albert Willis Coffey and Phyllis (Duncan) Darby.
Mrs. Richmond lived in Shawnee for the last nine years. Prior to that she lived in Meeker and Florida.
She was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her mother, Phyllis Darby of Shawnee; four sons, Albert Craig O'Neill of Shawnee; Tracy O'Neill of Arkansas; Phillip O'Neill of Shawnee; Shawn O'Neill of Shawnee; four sister, Nancy Sober of Oklahoma City; Jimmie Hodson of Chandler; Robbie Frye of Pryor; Della Sellers of Earlsboro; six grandchildren, six nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Harold Delaney Lucas
Harold Delaney Lucas of Tecumseh died Wednesday. He was 72.
He was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Darlington, S.C.
Lucas upholstered Piper planes.
Survivors include his wife, Clara J. Lucas of the home; son, Robert H. Lucas; two grandchildren, Alana Elizabeth Lucas and Robert H. Lucas Jr. all of Santa Ana, Calif.
Funeral services
will be 6:30 p.m. Monday at First Church of God with the Rev. Tom Harrison officiating under the direction of Demuth Funeral Home in Oklahoma City.
Norman P. Haney Sr.
Norman P. Haney Sr. of McLoud died Friday in a Midwest City hospital at the age of 72.
Wake will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Hitchitee Methodist Church with services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Further arrangements will be announced by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Lucille Kelly
Lucille Kelly of Centralia, Mo., died Friday. She was 89.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with Glen Pence officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Billy Bray
Choctaw resident Billy "Bill" Bray died Thursday at Midwest Regional Hospital. He was 63.
Bray was born Sept. 16, 1936, in Oklahoma City to Charley and Willie (Jose) Bray. He retired after 31 years of civil service at Tinker Air Force Base where he was chief administrator for the security police forces.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann, of the home; son, Mike Allen and his wife, Karen, and their son, Brandon; nine daughters, Kristine Graves and her children Michelle and Joshua; Jamie Bray-Glass and son Jacob; Robin Bray-Price, Becky Vasquez, Billie Jean, Donna, Sharen, Karen, Brenda Jo; one sister, Jean Powell and her husband Gary; four nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services
will be 10 a.m. Monday at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.
Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society Research Program.
Mildred Fischer Petersen
Mildred Fischer Petersen died Friday at her Shawnee residence. She was 77.
She was born northwest of Shawnee on May 26, 1921, the daughter of Otto and Louisa Bruza Fischer.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Earnest Fischer, Jim Fischer, Joe Fischer and Eddie Fischer; and three sisters, Ella Fischer, Helen Hull and Emma Lee Stone.
Survivors include her husband, George T. Petersen Jr. of the home; son, George T. Petersen III; daughters, Betty Jean Cockrell and Lois Marie Lenart; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Mayme Fischer Markwell, and many other relatives.
At Mrs. Petersen's request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Chapel.
Leslie Denise Williams
Former Shawnee resident Leslie Denise Williams of El Paso, Texas, died Thursday. She was 45.
She was born Dec. 16, 1953, in Enid to James C. and Mary Lou (Maddox) Davis. She was a retired civil service employee and attended the Methodist Church.
She had lived the past 14 years in El Paso.
Surviving are two daughters, Taryn Williams and Stormy Williams, both of El Paso; her mother, Mary Lou Davis of Del City; brother and sister-in-law, James and Rebecca Davis; two nephews, Travis and Sean Davis of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; uncle and aunt, Curtis and Daleros Mays of Del City; aunt, LaJuana Maddox; cousins, Tammy Stiffler and husband, of Edmond, Kevin and Carolyn Anderson, Oklahoma City, Jeff and Minda Mays, Manhattan, Kansas, also Tracy, Kelly, Terri and Karen and their families; and special friend Paul Tower of El Paso.
Preceding her in death were her father; grandparents, Troy and Minnie Maddox; grandmother Isabelle Davis; former husband and father of Taryn and Stormy, David L. Williams.
Graveside services
are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Mash officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
Bill J. Yost
Bill J. Yost of Oklahoma City died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 67.
He was born Dec. 11, 1931 at the family home in Harrah to William and Mable (Orr) Yost.
He graduated from McLoud High School and Oklahoma A&M. He was employed for more than 35 years with Horn Seed Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are cousins, Bonnie Wallace of Oklahoma City, Virginia Boydston of Harrah, and Robert Yost of Midwest City.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating, assisted by the Rev. Phil Thompson. A private burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Alfred R. Strawn
Alfred R. Strawn, Wanette, died Thursday at his home. He was 81.
He was born Jan. 17, 1919, in Byars to W.E. and Ellen Strawn. He attended Byars School.
Strawn married Neva Larman on May 15, 1943, at the McClain County line. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Strawn was a lifelong farmer and rancher. In 1957, they moved to the Wanette area.
Strawn was a World War II veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church of Wanette. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Phylis Mills, Wanette; Anita and Nickey Johnson, Shawnee; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Patti Strawn, Moore; Danny and Angie Strawn, Oil Center; Donny and Linda Strawn, Tulsa; Kevin and Valerie Strawn, Oklahoma City; brother, Ernest Strawn, Central Point, Ore.; sister, Ruth McCullar, Shawnee; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Wanette with the Rev. Randy Golden officiating. Burial will be at Byars Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home, Stratford.
James W. Newman
James W. "Jim" Newman of Tecumseh died Friday in Shawnee. He was 53.
Newman was born Dec. 12, 1947, in Portales, N.M., to Grover and Dorothy (Rouse) Newman. He had lived in Burns Flat, Okla., before moving to the Tecumseh area about 30 years ago.
On Jan. 15, 1970, he married LaDessia Pearce in Sentinal, Okla. He worked for Oklahoma Gas & Electric's meter department for 27 years, retiring Sept. 1, 2000.
He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was a member of Highland Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, LaDessia Newman, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Destry and Jill Newman, Tecumseh; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Guy Hurst, Edmond; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Diana Newman, Norman, and Jerry and Linda Newman, Midwest City; two grandchildren, Tanner Newman and Alicen Newman, both of Tecumseh; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, his stepfather Jack Burlison, and his mother, Dorothy Newman Burlison.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Bob Anderson and Destry Newman officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.
Dr. Dee Clenon Pennington
Retired Chandler dentist Dr. Dee Clenon Pennington, 89, died Friday at Shawnee Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 16, 1911, in Rankin, Okla., the son of Charles C. and Zora Adalene Gray Pennington.
He attended school in Roger Mills County and graduated from Central State Teachers College in Edmond in May 1938. He also graduated from Kansas City Dental College.
He served as a contract dentist for the Civilian Conservation Corps., treating workers at camps throughout Wyoming. During World War II, he entered the Army Medical Corps as first lieutenant and served at an induction camp for the duration of the war. Pennington retired from the Army Reserves in 1971 , ranking as lieutenant colonel.
In 1940, he married Hazel Morris. She preceded him in death in 1990. On March 20, 1992, he married Norma Lowe Pennington.
After the war, he continued his practice in Chandler, retiring in 1983.
The doctor was a member of the Lions Club, American Legion, Chandler Christian Church and the American Dental Association, where he was a lifetime member. He was also a member of the Chandler Golf Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Irma Womack; and brothers, Parker Pennington, Clifford Pennington and Earl Pennington.
Survivors include his wife, Norma, of the home; two sisters, Evelyn and husband Snip Baker of Fay, Okla. and Auba Pennington of Watonga; two brothers, Percy Pennington of Reydon, Okla. and Pascal "Pac" Pennington and wife Betty of Fritch, Texas; sisters-in-law Sula Pennington of Lancaster, Calif., and Della Lee and Sharky Nelson of Seal Beach, Calif.; brother-in-law Gale and wife June Liedorff of Mountain Ranch, Calif.; and a host of other family members, friends and patients.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Chandler. The Rev. Fred Rider will officiate. Burial will be in the Carney Cemetery.
Thelma Julia Campbell
Longtime Meeker resident Thelma Julia Campbell died Thursday in Meeker. She was 76.
She was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Hartshorne to William and Mary (Wishard) Alverado.
Mrs. Campbell lived in the Meeker area for many years and was a homemaker. She married James H. Campbell Nov. 12, 1947, in McAlester.
Mrs. Campbell was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Meeker.
Survivors include her husband, James H. Campbell of the home; two sons, Ed Campbell of Tecumseh; James Chris Campbell of Sparks; one daughter, Mary Jane Ballard of Meeker; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Campbell may be viewed at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Cemetery in Shawnee with the Rev. Jim Howe officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.
