Roy Jack Young
Shawnee resident Roy Jack Young died Tuesday at his home. He was 85.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Janie Kirt Morris and Dr. Kelvin Mosley officiating.
Young was born Aug. 8, 1913, in Pauls Valley to William Newton and Victoria (Villines) Young. He married Gladyce Christine Martin in 1934 in Seminole.
He attended Maud Schools and worked as an oil jobber with Cities Service Oil Co. for 15 years and then worked for Vickers Oil Co. In 1965, he formed Young Oil Co., which later became Young Distributing Inc.
Young was a charter member in the Maud Round-Up Club. He helped build the rodeo arena and served as president and secretary. He was also involved in the creation of "Teen Town" in Maud during the 1950s.
He was entertainment director for the 614th Engr. Base Equipment Company during World War II. He was a staff sergeant and received the Army of Occupation Medal, Germany, and the Victory Ribbon.
He also received the Good Conduct Medal in the United States Forces during the European Theater. He received an honorable discharge on July 11, 1946.
Young was a member of the Baptist Temple Church, Oklahoma City, for 23 years and served as church treasurer for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Gladyce, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Clifford "Kip" Roberts, Shawnee; son, Steve Young and his fiancee, Josianne Bozeman, Moore; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Pauline Sleeper Dorsey, Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ben and Walter Young; two sisters, Gladys Irwin and Lora Jenkins.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Hospice of Shawnee.
Charles Howard Colbert
Lifelong Seminole resident Charles Howard Colbert died Sunday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 58.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Galilee Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry T. Crawford officiating. Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery of Wewoka. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Charles Howard Colbert was born Dec. 27, 1940, in Seminole to Earl Maxwell Colbert and Pearl Lena (Mills) Colbert. He attended Booker T. Washington School and Seminole High School and had served in the National Guard. He was employed by J.D. Neese Used Cars and Tommy Sneed Garage for many years and was retired.
He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his brothers, William Earl Colbert and James Earl Colbert.
He is survived by three sisters, Linda Minner, Edna Mae Wilson, both of Seminole, and Carolyn Smith, Hazen, Ark.
Eva Viola Atchison Hunter
Eva Viola Atchison Hunter, Wetumka, died Tuesday in Holdenville at the age of 86.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Eva Viola Atchison was born in Porter, Okla., on Dec. 27, 1912, the daughter of Lexus Paris Atchison and Mary Jane (Weber) Atchison. She married Lester W. Hunter in Seminole on Sept. 11, 1929, and had worked as a licensed practical nurse in California for several years. She moved from Martinez, Calif., to Wetumka in 1982.
She was a member of the Moose and VFW while living in California. In Wetumka, she was a member of Eagles, where she had served as chaplain.
Preceding her in death were her husband in 1990; her parents; a son, Alvin Hunter; two daughters, Almeda Hunter and Sharon Devor, and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Bliss Hunter, Mission, Texas; Martin and Shirley Hunter, Holdenville; Darrell Hunter, Merced, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Nina and Tim Murphy, Park Hill; sister, Bertha Carroll, Tulsa, 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Geraldine Gilman
Geraldine Gilman died in Stroud on Wednesday. She was 81.
Mrs. Gilman was born July 13, 1917, in Delose, Mo., the daughter of Edward and Ethel (Weibel) Anderson.
On Nov. 12, 1938, she married Claude E. Gilman in Cushing.
Mrs. Gilman worked as a clerk and was a housewife. She was also a member of the Church of God in Stroud.
Mrs Gilman was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, one sister, two grandsons, two granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Survivors include three sons, Noel Anderson of Apple Valley, Calif., Clyde Gilman of Purcell, and Robert Gilman of Stroud; two daughters, Pat Phillips of Noble and Mary Carpenter of Prague; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Parks Brothers Chapel in Stroud. The Rev. Tim Emmons will officiate. Burial services will be held at the Stroud Cemetery.
Elmer Elden Duncan
Elmer Elden Duncan of Seminole died Wednesday at a Shawnee hospital. He was 75.
He was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Heavener, the son of Walter Ernest Duncan and Ida Mae (Teeter) Duncan.
On June 6, 1952, he married Maxine Bonnie (Lawson) Duncan in Oklahoma City.
Duncan was employed through the civil service and retired from Fort Sill. He served two years in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a carpenter and a member of the Bowlegs First Baptist Church.
Duncan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by two sons, Elmer and Robert Duncan, both of Seminole; one sister, Grace Woodruff of Lindsay; four grandchildren, Brad, Mike and Jason Duncan and Renea New; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate. Burial will be held at Little Cemetery.
Jimmie Howard Kinkade
Jimmie Howard Kinkade died Tuesday. He was 77.
Kinkade was born June 28, 1921, in Seminole, the son of Amos Jack and Florence (Higdon) Kinkade.
He married Mary Louise Montgomery in 1938. The Kinkades owned L&L Jewelry, Inc. in Seminole for many years.
Kinkade served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He later retired from Tinker Air Force Base as a chief of small engine accessories after 34 years. He then moved to Eufala.
Kinkade was a 32nd degree Mason, and active in the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Clown Brigade of Bedouin Shrine Temple.
He was preceded in death by his wife and six siblings.
Survivors include his daughter, Jary Carol Davis; one sister, Neoma Reynolds of Shawnee; one grandson, Todd Alan Davis; one granddaughter, Ashley Milon Davis; two great-grandsons, Kade Matthew Davis and Kash Taylor Davis; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee.
Willie Marie Spencer
Willie Marie Spencer of Shawnee died Thursday in a local nursing home. She was 95.
She was born Feb. 12, 1903, in Ellijay, Ga., to Barnett and Nancy Billingham. She married Kenneth William Spencer in McAllen, Texas. She was reared near Lawton and moved from Oregon to Shawnee 20 years ago.
Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.
Surviving are her nieces, Edna Faye Moore, Joyce Messick, both of Oklahoma City; nephew, Harold Billingham, Jacksonville, Texas; a daughter, and three granddaughters.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with burial at 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery of Lawton.
Jacqueline Maxine Treadaway
Former Shawnee resident Jacqueline Maxine Treadaway died Monday at her Midwest City home. She was 73.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Little Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Chapel. Frank Hester will officiate.
She was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Van Buren, Ark., the daughter of Dennis and Verdia Lacey. She was raised in the Seminole area and attended high school at Bowlegs. She also lived in Shawnee for several years.
She was a commissary clerk at Tinker Air Force Base until her retirement and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She married Haskell Treadaway and he preceded her in death. Her parents also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her sons, William D. Treadaway, Oklahoma City; James Haskell, Loudon, Tenn.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Clara Jane Hendrick, Oklahoma City, and Betty J. Williamson, Pauls Valley.
Lindsay Brie McKiddy
Lindsay Brie McKiddy of Oklahoma City died Saturday. She was 20.
She was born July 17, 1980, in Oklahoma City, the daughter of Steve McKiddy and Sharon (Salazar) McKiddy. She was reared in the Tecumseh-Shawnee area.
Ms. McKiddy was a 1998 graduate of Shawnee High School and was a full-time student at the University of Central Oklahoma majoring in criminal justice. She worked at Southwestern Bell Wireless at Penn Square Mall.
Ms. McKiddy was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Shawnee.
She was preceded in death by her aunt, Sandy McKiddy, and her great-grandparents.
Survivors include her parents, Sharon McKiddy of Shawnee; Steve and Myra McKiddy of Seminole; her grandparents, Arlice and Norma McKiddy of Tecumseh; Raymond Salazar and Jeanette Coker, both of Norman; one sister, Laura McKiddy of Shawnee; Cal McKiddy of Shawnee; three stepbrothers, Scott, Christopher and Chad Fuller, all of Seminole; three aunts, Sharon Sparkman, Terri Salazar and Donna Moore; cousins, Summer, Chance and Braedan Sparkman, Geary, Micaela and Ryan Wilson, Jennifer and Carly Moore, Luke and Cory Salazar and numerous other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Shawnee, with the Rev. David Clewell, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist and the Rev. Clint Dawkins, pastor of Sharon Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Imogene Streater
Lifelong Seminole County resident Ella Imogene Streater died Sunday. She was 76.
Mrs. Streater was born June 13, 1924, in Larned, Kan., to Henry Arthur and Eva Louise (Fountain) Mathis. On July 1, 1939, she married Raymond "Loyd" Streater in Wewoka.
The homemaker attended the First Assembly of God Church in Seminole.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Trevia Streater, Wewoka; Henry and Connie Streater, Ada; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn Curry and Bonita and Merle Jay, all of Wewoka; brother, Auldie Mathews, California; two sisters, Henryetta Duncan and Mary Lou Myrick, both of California; eight grandchildren, Michael Streater, Dewayne Streater, Ricky Streater, Heath Streater, Dathan Jay, Robin Justice, Denese Cheatwood and Stephanie Jay; and 13 great-grandchildren, Amber, Jason, Justin, Dana, Brandon, Brooke, Blake and Jace Streater, Laci and Hailey Jones, Cole and Jordan Cheatwood and Reagan Jay.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Randall Lee Streater.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor David Long officiating. Burial will be in the Streater Family Cemetery. Swearingen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
