Clement J. Suellentrop
Former Shawnee resident Clement J. Suellentrop, 84, died at his home on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, after a short illness.
Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colwich, Kan. Rosaries will be 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ken Schuckman presiding. Memorials have been established with Bishop Carroll Catholic High School and Sacred Heart Parish Building Fund. Arrangements under the direction of Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Colwich, Kan.
Steven Lee "Steve" Sherlock Sr.
Tecumseh resident Steven Lee "Steve" Sherlock Sr., 41, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at his residence.
He was born on Dec. 21, 1966, to Kenneth John Sherlock and Barbara J. (Balenti) Berry in Kansas City, Kan.
Born in Kansas, he was raised in Shawnee, spending most of his life in the Shawnee/Tecumseh area.
He was a 1985 graduate of Shawnee High School, and attended Seminole Jr. College.
He worked for 15 years at Wolverine Tube, and was currently employed at Eaton Corp. as a Maintenance Tech and Emergency Responder. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, horseback riding and camping, as well as scuba diving, riding his wave runner, motorcycles, and knee boarding. He loved sports and was an umpire at the college level. He also liked to dance and karaoke, and spend time with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth John Sherlock and his grandparents, E.E. and Frances Balenti.
Survivors include his wife, Tracy Freeman of the home; mother and her husband, Barbara and Earl Berry of Shawnee; three daughters, Amber Dawn Miller of Ft. Bragg, N.C., Jennifer Ann Harmon of Shawnee and Jessica Lynn Snider of Tecumseh; two sons, Steven Lee Sherlock Jr. of the home and Justin Charles Snider of Muskogee; four grandchildren, Jazzman Miller, Anthony Harmon, Avery Taylor and Harper Snider; sister, Sheryl Sherlock of Shawnee; brother, Michael Cox and family of Missouri; nieces, Brandie Berry and Cierra Sherlock; nephews, Braxton Berry and Braedon Morgan; uncle and aunt, Mike and Sarah Balenti of Alva, Okla.; cousins, Troy and Shannon Balenti and Family of Enid, Okla., and Chris and Sandy Balenti and Family of Colorado, as well as numerous other family members and a host of friends.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.
Dorothy May Watt Rimer
Yantis, Texas resident Dorothy May Watt Rimer passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at the age of 74 in Quitman, Texas.
On Feb. 5, 1933, she was born to Edna and James Watt in Mustang, Okla.
Born in Mustang, she was raised in Newalla and Choctaw area. She lived in West Texas most of her adult life, and later moved to Tyler and Lake Fork.
She attended McLoud schools and graduated from Choctaw in 1952.
On December 24, 1952, she married Wayne Rimer in Oklahoma City and was a homemaker.
She loved to paint and travel. She attended the Baptist church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edna and James and two brothers, Jimmie Watt and Whitie Watt.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Bowen Rimer of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dewayne and Christine Rimer of Blanchard and Rodney Rimer of Blanchard; three grandchildren, Chad, Christopher and Cassie; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Eli; brothers, Richard Watt of Mustang and LeRoy Watt of Chickasha and sister, Loretta Wood of Union City.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Newalla First Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Derick officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery.
Dorothy V. Fry
Newalla resident Dorothy V. Fry, 76, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, in Midwest City.
On Oct. 29, 1931, she was born to Otto and Carrie (Parin) Sexton in Seminole.
She was raised in Seminole and then lived in San Diego and New York City. After returning to Oklahoma, she lived in Altus several years before moving to the Pink-Tecumseh area in 1975.
She was a 1949 graduate of Seminole High School. In the 1970's, she attended Rose State College, where she pursued an Associates Degree in Psychology.
On July 20, 1967, she married John Fry in Okemah.
She was the head of the Minute Man Program for the Washington, D.C. National Guard and later retired from Tinker Air Force Base. She was a member of the Shawnee Tractor and Engine Club; the Oklahoma Steam Threshers; Toastmasters at Tinker, and Broadway United Methodist Church. She enjoyed watching her grandsons play sports, as well as enjoying all her grandchildren, and her friends that she has made in the tractor clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jacob Miller; one brother, Bernard Sexton; one grandchild, Debby Miller; and one step son, Conrad Fry.
Survivors include her husband, John Fry of the home; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard Fry, Daniel and Donna Fry of Milwaukee, Wis., Shane and Vivian Fry of McLoud and Mary Bauer of Midwest City; grandchildren and their spouses, Sheryl Robertson of Mildenhall, England, Heather Miller of Sayer, Okla., Shane and Brandy Fry of Norman, John Fry of Noble and Timothy and Sharon Fry of Moore and five great-grandchildren.
Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Will Bentley and the Rev. Tracy Schumpert officiating. Burial will be at Seminole Cemetery.
Jenny Marie Chaffin
St. Louis, Okla. resident Jenny Marie Chaffin, 23, passed away Sunday, Jan.6, 2008, in Shawnee.
On June 23, 1984, she was born to James M. Chaffin and Tammy Jo Berry, in Shawnee.
She attended Weleetka Elementary school, Macomb Middle School and was a graduate of Graham High School.
She worked in childcare and enjoyed spending time with her friends and especially enjoyed riding horses with her friend, Nicole Cushman. Spending time with her family was important to her and she especially loved spending time with her children and her sister. Jenny also enjoyed working with computers.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Hazel Putman, Odie Putman and Frank Berry; her paternal grandfather, John Chaffin; paternal uncle, Jerry Chaffin; twin brothers, Colby and Casey Brooks; and step grandfather, John W. Brooks, III.
Survivors include her mother and step-father, Tammy Jo and Jason Brooks of St. Louis; her father, James Michael Chaffin of Okemah; sisters, Isabella Kay Brooks of St. Louis and Allison Cole Chaffin of Okemah; brother, James Chaffin of Okemah; sons, Everett Michael Porter of St. Louis and Adrian Blake Chaffin of Wetumka; special friends, Nate Parker and Pam Doty and numerous other relatives and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Brother Glenn Peck officiating. Burial will be at Mars Hill Cemetery.
Emmett Wayne Wood
Shawnee resident Emmett Wayne Wood died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at his home.
Visitation will be noon until 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Wewoka with Houston Tiger officiating. Burial will be at Hawkins Family Cemetery, Wewoka.
Service is under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
Jesse Earl Norman
Okfuskee County resident Jesse Earl Norman passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, in Paden at the age of 79.
He was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Okfuskee County to Bruce and Willie Gertrude (Stout) Norman.
Mr. Norman had been a resident of Okfuskee County most all of his life having graduated from Mason High School.
He and Betty Ann Vavra were married Nov. 25, 1952, in Caldwell, Kan.
Mr. Norman worked as a farmer for many years and was also the owner of Norman's Feed in Welty. He enjoyed working outdoors, bailing hay, and cutting fire wood. Mr. Norman was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Paden.
He is survived by his two sons, Randy Norman and wife, Pam, of Paden and James Michael Norman also of Paden; one daughter, Rebecca Pennel and husband, Mark, of Paden; four grandchildren, Brandi Lynn Pennel, Miranda Leigh Norman, Billy Kyle Norman and wife, Linsey, and Jesse Kent Norman; and three great-grandchildren, Garrett Lee Norman, Libbie Ellen Smith, and Gavin Kent Norman.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Paden with the Rev. Terry Pittman officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery in Paden.
Active pallbearers include Kyle Norman and Kent Norman, Nick and Kenny Allen, Leon Provaznik, Brent McGinnis, and Gene Evans.
Honorary bearers will be the Paden First Baptist Church adult men's Sunday School Class.
Service is under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.
Gregory Wayne Middleton
Shawnee resident Gregory Wayne Middleton, 60, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Unity Health Center.
He was born Aug. 29, 1947, in Evansville, Ind., to Ralph and Ethel Middleton.
He graduated from Vacaville Union High School and Porterville College in California.
He married Donna Holt on March 19, 1993.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969. He was employed for 17 years with the Dept. of Transportation, State of Oklahoma.
He was a member of Living Word Church for 15 years. Greg was born again in November of 1992. He loved to play golf with his son, brothers, and friends. He also was an avid fisher of men and fish. He also enjoyed helping others and was in ministry at his local church helping the needy and homeless. Greg loved camping and the great outdoors. He loved the snow because he said it cleaned the air!
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Middleton of Shawnee; son, Kevin Middleton of Porterville, Calif.; brothers, Ralph Middleton of Alamogordo, N.M., Leon Middleton of Abbeville, La., Steve Middleton of Red Bluff, Calif., Michael Middleton of Oxnard, Calif., Paul Middleton of Lake Havasa, Ariz.; and sister, Lee Ann Parnell of Atoka, Tenn.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Living Word Church, 3831 N. Kickapoo, with Pastor Clifton Briscoe officiating.
Cremation was under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
Ruth Denney
Macomb resident Ruth Denney, 82, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2008 at a local hospital.
She was born August 7, 1925 in Seymour, Missouri to William Marion Alexander and Cynthia (Cantrell) Alexander. She was a homemaker.
She was in preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, and one son, John Robert Denney.
Survivors include four children, William G. Denney, Jr. and wife, Cheryl of Macomb, Jerry G. Denney and wife, Pat of Pueblo, Colo., James D. Denny of Macomb, and Jeffrey G. Denney and wife, Meryl of Pueblo, Colo.; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Church of the Nazarene of Shawnee with Rev. Jack Elmore officiating. Burial will be at Prarie View Cemetery in Macomb under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
Leota Forth
Shawnee resident Leota "Toad" Forth died Sunday, June 12, in Shawnee at the age of 81.
She was born Tuesday, Sept. 18, 1923, in Bray, Okla. to Ira S. Vestal and Pearl Mae Vestal. She graduated from Bray High School and lived most of her life in the Marlow area. She lived several years in Elk City and recently moved to Shawnee to be closer to her son. The most important thing in Toad's life was her family. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wayne Forth on Dec. 30, 1996; her parents; sister, Ruby Fine; and brother, Charlie Vestal.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Dorothy Forth of Prague; two grandsons, Christopher Michael Forth and wife, Sonja, of Edmond, and Mark Allen Forth and wife, Melanie, of Yukon; two granddaughters, Erin Crosby and husband, Greg, of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, and Pamela Riley and husband, Trey, of Edmond; eight great-grandchildren, Clayton, Caylee and Snow Forth, James, Nash, Chloe Crosby, Taylor Stonestreet and Thomas Riley IV; five brothers, Donald Vestal of Aztec, N.M., Doltan Vestal of Checotah, Hershel Vestal of Chandler, Texas, Leon Vestal of Kilgore, Texas, and Wade Vestal of Chandler, Texas; two sisters, Juanita "Sug" Howard of Marlow, and Naomi "Biddy" Turpin of Wichita Falls, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Marlow Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Howard officiating.
Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home of Marlow is directing arrangements.
