James G. Massey
James "Jim" G. Massey, 62, died Tuesday at his Maud home.
The son of Frank and Edna (Brown) Massey was born July 22, 1939, in Garrison, W.Va.
He and Betty Joy Rumery were married Sept. 22, 1973, in Mansfield.
Massey worked as a purchasing agent for Lake Park Industries in Ohio. He retired in 1999. He moved from Mansfield, Ohio, to Maud in 1999.
He was a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church in Maud and Masonic Lodge No. 106. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason.
His parents and four brothers preceded Massey in death.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Mike Haas of Cripple Creek, Colo., and Steve Hass of Brookville, Wis.; four daughters, Vonna Dolan of Wanette, Kim Molsbee of Shawnee, Kecia Ferguson of Choctaw and Sabra Harvey of Mansfield; three brothers, Darrell Massey of Mansfield and Bob Massey and Johnny Massey, both of Eastbank, W.Va.; a sister, Anne Bachelor of Ontario, Canada; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cummings Cemetery in Maud. The Rev. Mike McCauley will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Knight Funeral Home, Maud.
Johnny Barnett
Former Shawnee resident Johnny Barnett, Tulsa, died Aug. 27 in Tulsa. He was 55.
He was born June 12, 1946, in Wright City, Okla., the son of Pete and Myrtle Barnett.
He had lived in Tulsa for the past year and a half, having lived in Shawnee for 30 years. Barnett was a social worker for the state of Oklahoma and a member of the Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, of Tulsa; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Shane and Karis Barnett of Norman and Kevin Barnett of Durant; a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Todd Sanford of Tulsa; a brother, Bobby Barnett of Valliant, Okla.; a sister, Glenda Tucker of Yukon, and his grandchildren, Madison, Justin and Lindsay.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Wright City Methodist Church in Wright City. Burial will follow at Rufe Cemetery in Rufe, Okla.
Arrangements are under the direction of Jim Norwood Funeral Home, Idabel.
Helen (Henry) Megehee
Helen (Henry) Megehee died Wednesday in Oklahoma City. The Bethany resident was 54.
She was born Feb. 2, 1947, in Indio, Calif., the daughter of William Joe-Dale Henry and Betty J. (McMenis) Wiley. graduated from Macomb schools in 1966.
She and John Megehee were married Dec. 22, 1967, in Tribbey.
Mrs. Megehee had lived in California and Oklahoma as a child, and had lived in Bethany since her marriage.
She was a homemaker and was a member of First Baptist Church, Bethany.
Preceding her in death were her father and one brother-in-law, Frank Garretson.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Suzie Megehee of Oklahoma City; her mother, Betty Wiley of Shawnee; sister, Barbara Garretson-Patten of Tecumseh, and brother, William J. Henry of Pflugerville, Texas.
The casket will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. It will not be opened Friday. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Dr. Charles R. Womack will officiate. Burial will be at Tribbey Cemetery.
Millda Peavler
Former St. Louis resident Millda Peavler died Wednesday in Shawnee at the age of 90.
Services are pending under the direction of Knight Funeral Home, Maud.
Tommy Dale Plunk
Tommy Dale Plunk, 43, died Thursday at his Seminole home.
Plunk was born July 2, 1958, in Odessa, Texas, to William Dale and Patty Sue (Lewis) Plunk.
In February 2001, he moved from Tuscola, Ill., to Seminole, where he was a sales associate at Wal-Mart.
He had served in the U.S. Marines.
Survivors include his mother, Patty Plunk, Seminole; two sons, Tommy Lee Plunk and Bobby Dale Plunk, both of Odessa, Texas; and two sisters, Cindy Ward, Harrisburg, Ill.; and Lawana Sigler, Tuscola, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Plunk in 1988.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Allen Cemetery with the Rev. Keith Warren officiating. Swearingen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ola Ann Browning
Ola Ann Browning of Shawnee died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 68.
She was born June 27, 1933, in Shawnee to Brice and Audrey (Stout) Killingsworth. She attended Shawnee Public Schools and was a homemaker.
In 1949, she married Harold Lloyd Browning.
Mrs. Browning lived for 35 years in Portage, Ind., before moving back to Oklahoma in 1988. In 1998, she moved to McMinnville, Tenn., where she was a member of Newton Church of Christ.
After her husband's death in 2000, she returned to Shawnee, where she was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Billie and Raymond Block.
Survivors include her daughter, Mandy Browning, Portland, Tenn.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Bob Wayne, Albuquerque, N.M.; Norma and Jack Radford, Wichita, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests from noon to 3 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services will be 4 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Dr. C.C. Tolleson
Dr. C.C. Tolleson died Sunday at his Shawnee home. He was 91.
Tolleson was born Aug. 3, 1910, in Boles, Ark., to John Burl and Sue Walls Tolleson. He had lived most of his life in Okfuskee County, attended Buckeye Schools and graduated from Okemah High School.
In 1936, he became a licensed veterinarian and practiced 47 years in Okemah.
On June 22, 1957, he married Zelda Elizabeth Scrimshire in Okemah.
He moved six years ago to Shawnee, where he attended Northridge Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Barbara Payne, and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Zelda Elizabeth Tolleson, Shawnee; two daughters, Charlotte Coale, Tulsa; Karlyne Paul, Merced, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Tommy Coale, Tim Coale, Tracy Coale, Lisa Caid, Carl Anthony Paul, Victoria Lynn Ferreria and Tolly Payne; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ, Okemah, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Okemah.
Myrtle I. Weaver
Shawnee resident Myrtle I. Weaver, 75, died Monday at a local nursing home.
She was the widow of George Weaver.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the Prairie View Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating. Further arrangements will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home.
Tollie A. Block
Shawnee resident Tollie A. Block died Saturday in a local nursing home at the age of 91.
She was born May 27, 1910, in Harrah to George and Martha Block.
She was employed by Moody's Bargain Store for 40 years, retiring from there during the 1960s. She then worked several years at Blaine's Dress Shop. She attended the St. Benedict Catholic Church of Shawnee and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and a brother.
Survivors include two nephews, Richard L. Hall, Tulsa, and James Patrick Block, California; a niece, Sherri R. Cato, Watonga, Okla.; several great nieces and nephews and two great-great-nephews and one great-great niece.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be noon Wednesday in the St. Benedict Catholic Church with Celebrant Rev. Marcus Jaeb, OSB officiating. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Home.
Myrtle J. (Addington) Jones
Seminole resident Myrtle J. (Addington) Jones died Saturday at the age of 85.
A Seminole County resident for 80 years, she was born July 19, 1916, in Oklahoma City to Walker and Maudie Addington.
She married Clarence Jones Oct. 8, 1938, in Seminole. She was a homemaker and a member of Harvey Road Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather and husband.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Linda Jones of Bethany and Wayne and Carolyn Jones of Yukon; two brothers, Roy Gurley and Kenneth Addington; two sisters, Esteen Scott and Pauline Patterson, all of Seminole; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Hightower officiating. Burial will follow at the Little Cemetery.
Beulah Pickard
Services for Beulah "Granny" Pickard, 95, Tecumseh, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Robert Ryder officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Mrs. Pickard died Sunday at a Tecumseh nursing home.
She was born May 13, 1906, to Ray and Bertha McNee in Alva.
She and Charlie J. Pickard were married April 18, 1925, in Boise City. She lived in Tecumseh since 1969 and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three daughters, Lurlene Rice, Nadine Haley and an infant; three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Everett and Freda Pickard, Shawnee; daughter, Bertha Littleton, Tecumseh; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jimmy and Jenny Pickard, Shawnee, Bryan and Nancy Pickard, Prague, Ruth and Doug West, Tecumseh, and Michelle Buffington, Salina; eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Floyd McNee, Sallisaw; special friends Boyd and Barbara Lane.
