Carl Renfro
Carl "Cowboy" Renfro, 72, died Saturday in an Oklahoma City Hospital.
He was born March 14, 1929, in Wanette and attended school there until his enlistment in U.S. Army. He served in the Army during and after World War II.
Renfro was a lifelong resident of Shawnee.
Renfro worked as an exterminator for many years with Hasbel's and owned and operated Central Pool Hall in downtown Shawnee.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, James and Amanda Renfro of Earlsboro, and Carl Renfro of Maud; grandchildren, Justin Renfro of Maud, Michelle Renfro of Snyder, Texas, and Scott Renfro of Earlsboro; his mother, Sadie Shaw of Earlsboro; and several other relatives.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Carl Whitfield of Maud will officiate. Burial will be in Wanette Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Robert Merritt Wallace
Robert Merritt Wallace, 87, died Sunday in a local nursing home.
The son of Robert Henry Wallace and Mary Pearl (Merritt) Wallace was born in Shawnee on Oct. 27, 1913.
He was a 1930 graduate of Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University for two years.
He owned and operated Wallace TV Service for more than 35 years.
Wallace was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was a lifelong resident of Shawnee.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Henry Wallace.
Surviving Wallace is a special friend and caregiver, Marquetta Williams.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery. The Rev. Rusty Williams will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home.
Kaila DeAnn Pearce
Kaila DeAnn Pearce, infant daughter of Lorna Pearce of Tecumseh and Jacky Pearce of Eufaula, died Saturday at an Oklahoma City hospital.
The baby was born May 5, 2001.
Survivors include her mother, Lorna Pearce, Tecumseh; father, Jacky Pearce, Eufaula; sister, Jackie Pearce, Tecumseh; grandparents, Coeta and W.R. Branscum, Shawnee, Harold and Linda Holcombe, Tecumseh, and Hoyal and Judy Pearce, Eufaula; great-grandparents, Remeth Ross, Shawnee, and Ruby Pearce and Reba Shaver, both of Eufaula; aunts and uncles, Darla and James Oldham, Shawnee, Clemmie and Chuck Gundrum, Tecumseh, Arvella Smith, Shawnee, Ronnie and Cheryl Pearce, Eufaula, Amy Stone, Shawnee, Lee and Kevin Branscum, Shawnee; and several cousins.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Roesh-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Tecumseh.
Wilma Jean Clevenger
Former Prague resident Wilma Jean Clevenger, 62, of Livingston, Texas, died Friday at a hospital in Gainesville, Texas.
She was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Tulsa, to L.R. and Charlotte (Cochrane) McCrackin.
She married Clarence Clevenger in the spring 1986.
Clevenger was employed for many years as a teller and bookkeeper at Prague National Bank.
Preceding her in death were her parents and son, Doyle Wayne Opela.
Survivors include her husband of the home; sons, Dexter Opela of Prague and Mike Opela of Choctaw; stepsons, Clarence Lee Clevenger of Arkansas City, Kan., and Dewayne Clevenger of Holdenville; sisters, Catherine Ray of Gore and Dorothy Swan of Claremore; and grandchildren, Chad Opela of Prague, Krista Opela of Oklahoma City and Colton Opela of Prague.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel, Prague. The Rev. Clarence Lee Clevenger will officiate. Burial will follow in the Prague Cemetery.
Gilbert Bruce Mooney
Gilbert Bruce Mooney, 79, died Saturday at Oklahoma Veterans Center, Norman.
The oldest of five children of George and Ruth Simmons Mooney, he was born April 16, 1922, in Walters, Okla.
Mooney was reared in Walters.
He graduated from Walters High School where he played football.
On Oct. 4, 1942, he married Eva Mae Johnson.
He served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II and was honorably discharged Nov. 12, 1945.
Mooney attended Cameron University, where he played football for two years. He then attended Oklahoma University, where he earned a degree in accounting.
Mooney worked nearly 10 years at Tinker Air Force Base before taking a job with the FAA, where he worked 20 years prior to his retirement.
In 1964, he and his family moved to Newcastle.
He was a member of Newcastle First Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Dennis Mooney and Dan Mooney; and a sister, Rosalie McDonald.
Survivors include his wife of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Cindy Mooney of Newcastle; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Jack Ratley of Shreveport, La., and Nanette and Jim Gibbs of Newcastle; sister, Joan Ringwald of Tecumseh; sisters-in-law, Betty Mooney of Hale Center, Texas, and Mickie Mooney of Eureka Springs, Ark.; grandchildren, Trelynda McBride, Tricia Ratley, Richard Holland and Jimmy Copeland; 13 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Newcastle with burial at 2 p.m. at Walters Cemetery, Walters. The Rev. Bill Gentry will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Newcastle.
Donald Frederick Trautwein
Jacktown resident Donald "Don" Frederick Trautwein, 78, died Saturday at a local hospital.
He was born Dec. 16, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of George Frederick and Stella Serena (Pickett) Trautwein.
Trautwein married Margret Morgan April 11, 1949, in Pleasanton, Neb.
He served as a pilot and air controller in the U.S. Air Force and retired with the rank of colonel from Tinker Air Force Base, Midwest City. After his retirement, he moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., where he lived for 22 years before moving to Jacktown four years ago.
Trautwein was a Methodist.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Louise Killan.
Survivors are his wife Margret Trautwein of the home; daughters, Terri Mason, Jacktown, and Dawn Bleichner, Marion, Iowa; brother, George Trautwein, Orlando, Fla.; sister, Marjorie McDonald, Castle Rock, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
Viewing will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church, Meeker, with the Rev. Michael Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery, Jacktown. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Prague.
Nellie Ruth (Chritton) Gilmore
Chandler area resident Nellie Ruth (Chritton) Gilmore died May 1, in Chandler. She was 105.
Gilmore was born Sept. 17, 1895, in Streater, Ill., the daughter of George F. and Emmeretta (Swan) Chritton.
She moved to Chandler from Bartlesville in 1973.
Gilmore was a member of First United Methodist Church of Chandler and the Eastern Star No. 142 of Bartlesville.
Preceding her in death were her husband Walter J. Gilmore; parents; son, Walter J. Gilmore Jr.; daughter, Opal Marie Potter; and a granddaughter.
Survivors include her daughter, Maxine G. McColey of Manhattan, Kan.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at the Methodist Church in Chandler with the Rev. Hugh Willoby officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.
Iva Ellen Hegner
Bethany resident Iva Ellen Marshall Hegner died Saturday in Oklahoma City. The former Carnegie resident was 89.
The daughter of Napoleon W. Marshall and Effie Mae Cotter was born Sept. 18, 1911, in Ott, Ark.
She married Joseph Hegner June 20, 1980, in Carnegie. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Hegner had previously been married to Lee Marrs and Jess Noland, both of whom also preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death was her daughter, Pauline Marrs Mills.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Dorothy Marshall; sister, Bessie Gregg; daughter and son-in-law, Steve and Irene Marrs McPherson; son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Deena Noland; and three generations of grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Nazarene Church in Carnegie with the Rev. Arthur Blunt officiating. Burial will follow at Carnegie Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fort Cobb Funeral Home.
James N. Mize
James N. "Jim" Mize died Saturday in a local hospital. The Tecumseh resident was 78.
The son of O.E. and Ora (Crutchfield), Mize was born in Shawnee on Jan. 30, 1923.
He attended school in Earlsboro.
Mize was a truck driver.
On Jan. 7, 1947, he and Marie Saddler were married in Waldron, Ark.
Mize served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater from March 1942 to November 1945.
Mize was a member of First Baptist Church of Earlsboro.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Dale Mize, Paul Mize, and Kelly Mize.
Survivors include his wife of Tecumseh; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Bill Backstrom of Ovieda, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Brenda Mize of Shawnee; granddaughters, Tiffany Backstrom and Karen Richards; grandson, Travis Mize; three great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Junior and Joy Mize, and Wayne and Janie Mize, all of Earlsboro.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Junior Mize will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home.
Billy Don Dunlap
Billy Don Dunlap died Sunday at University Hospital after a long illness. The Oklahoma City resident was 59.
Services are pending under the direction of Keller Funeral Home of Wewoka.
