Dickie Wayne Duncan
Dickie Wayne Duncan, 59, died Saturday at a local hospital.
He was born May 3, 1941, in Okemah, the son of Raymond Charles Duncan and Irene C. Scott Duncan.
Duncan attended and graduated from Okemah High School in 1959 and attended Draughan School of Business in Oklahoma City.
He married Mary Paulette Scoufos Duncan Aug. 20, 1961.
He was a resident of Okfuskee County all his life and was a partner in, "Spuds Hot Oil and Steam Units."
Duncan was past president of Okemah Jaycees.
He received a plaque from the Booster Club for 23 years service on the sidelines as a chain marker.
Duncan was a volunteer firefighter and was a former Okemah City treasurer.
Survivors include wife, Mary Paulette Duncan of Okemah; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Lisa Duncan of Okemah; daughter, and son-in-law, Terri Lynn and Darren Melton of Coweta; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald "Spud" and Barbara Duncan of Okemah; sister and brother-in-law, Dortha Jane and Gene Wilbourn of Okemah; four grandchildren ; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Okemah. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery with Brother Billy Green officiating.
Services directed by Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.
Juanita J. Guffey
Juanita J. Guffey, 75, died Sunday.
She was born Feb. 12, 1926, in Shawnee, the daughter of George D. Sr. and Edith N. (Detrick) Guffey.
Guffey attended Shawnee Schools and worked at several jobs caring for children and the elderly.
She lived in Shawnee most of her life.
Guffey was preceded in death by her parents, George D. Sr. and Edith Guffey; sister, Ora I. Guffey; brothers, Charles Daniel, Kenneth E. Sr. and Frank E. Guffey.
Survivors include brothers and sisters-in-law, George D. Jr. and Betty J. Guffey of Shawnee, John H. and Mai Guffey of Moore and Robert D. and Jean Guffey of Gerty; sister, Rosa Mary Farris Campbell of Shawnee; sister-in-law, Terrie Guffey of Shawnee; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Neal Cemetery with the Rev. Mack Peercy officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.
Memorials may be made to Rose Manor Nursing Home, Shawnee, or Shawnee Regional Hospital.
Blanche Maxine Hayes Arms
Blanche Maxine Hayes Arms, 86, of Shawnee died Friday at an Ada hospital.
She was born Dec. 11, 1914, near Shawnee, the daughter of Thomas David Witt and Temperance L. (Stout) Witt Shirley.
Arms was a homemaker.
She was married to Joseph Terrel Hayes in Tecumseh in 1928.
After his death, she later married Ernest Arms in Texas in early 1960.
She was a member of Aydelotte Baptist Church.
Arms lived in the Shawnee area most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Terrel Hayes and Ernest Arms; sons, Jack Hayes, Royce Hayes and Joe Terrel Hayes; daughter, Bertha Lou Hayes; and brother, Gene Witt.
Survivors include son, Tommy Lee Hayes, Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria Jean and Elmer Ray Terrel, Shawnee, Roselyn J. and William R. Hynson, Orlando, Fla., LaDawn (O'Dell) and Gene Cathey, Konawa; daughter-in-law, Norene Hayes, Shawnee; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Katherine Matthews, Shawnee; Frances and Bill Silkwood, Norman; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were 2 p.m. Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Jones officiating. Burial will be at Prague Cemetery, Prague, under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
The family has designated the Salvation Army as appropriate for memorial contributions.
Homer William Montgomery
Homer William Montgomery, 82, died Sunday at his home near Welty.
He was born July 16, 1918, in Welty, the son of James Dorton Montgomery and Annie Baker Montgomery.
Montgomery was a farmer, and had been a resident of the Welty area all of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, half-brother and two half-sisters.
Survivors include brothers, Claude Montgomery, Elmer Montgomery, Raymond Montgomery and Dale Montgomery, all of Welty, and Fred Montgomery of Stroud; sisters, Lizzie Jane Beaver of Welty, Mae Hutchinson of Sunray, Texas, and Hattie Stiffler of Hinton.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. today at the Welty Church of God with the Rev. Bobby Haddox officiating. Burial will be in Welty Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.
Joseph Richard Brown
Joseph Richard Brown of Sherman, Texas, died Saturday in Oklahoma City. He was 48.
Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park. Further information will be announced by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Delia Samby Rhodes
Delia Samby Rhodes, 79, died Thursday.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Holy Temple Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, under the direction of Temple and Sons Funeral Directors Inc. Burial will be in New Lima Cemetery in New Lima.
Dorothy June Shiles
Dorothy June Shiles, 72, died Sunday in Cushing.
She was born March 1, 1928, in Three Sands, Okla., the daughter of Ray C. and Rosa Mae (Kemp) Hicks.
She was a resident of Cushing most of her life.
Shiles worked as an airline stewardess
She was a member of the Catholic church in Cushing.
Shiles was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Russell.
Survivors include sons, Andrew Shiles of Memphis, Tenn., and Mark Shiles of Las Cruces, N.M.; sisters, Wanda Thompson of Stroud and Glenna Rose Portillo of Chaparral, N.M.; and grandchildren, Ashley Shiles of Las Cruces, N.M., and Julianne Shiles of Memphis, Tenn.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Kendrick Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Molencupp officiating. Parks Brothers Funeral Services in Stroud is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Stroud.
Leta Joy Croskell
Leta Joy "L.J." Croskell died Saturday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 68.
She was born Sept. 9, 1932, in Las Cruces, N.M., the daughter of Edward Orville "E.O." and Vera Virgie (Hawkins) Claxton.
She graduated from Lone Grove High School in 1950.
Croskell was a dorm mother at St. Gregory's University for the past three years.
She lived in Carter County most of her life.
Survivors include daughters, Jo Kenaga and Leawyn Auld, both of Shawnee; grandchildren, April Auld and Janie Auld, both of Shawnee, Dillon Kenaga and Ryan Kenaga, both of Fayetteville, Ark.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don E. and Betty Claxton, Lafayette, La., and Gary N. and Patti Claxton, Wilson; her adopted family of students and friends at St. Gregory's University; and niece and nephew, April and Brett Claxton, Wilson.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. today at St. Gregory's Abbey Church.
Services will be 3 p.m. today at Harvey Douglas Lone Grove Chapel with the Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Burial will be at Lone Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson.
Ruth Ada Lee Young
Ruth Ada Lee Young of Shawnee died Saturday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 88.
She was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Carlisle, Ark., the daughter of William and Alice Savage.
She was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone before retiring with 26 ð years of service.
She married Oliver R. Young on April 16, 1937. He preceded her in death Nov. 17, 2000.
Young was a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Shawnee.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lois Henderson; and brother, Floyd Savage.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, William O. and Glenna Young, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Fred Turner, Oklahoma City; granddaughter and husband, Haley and Rob Brewer, Tulsa; grandson and wife, Matthew W. and Melanie Young, Shawnee; grandson, Taylor Swinton, Oklahoma City; great-granddaughter, Maegan Brewer, Tulsa; brother, William Vern Savage, Houston, Texas; niece, Joy Dellinger, Wylie, Texas; and nephew, Billy Vern Savage, Houston, Texas.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Elizabeth A. Rogers
Elizabeth A. Rogers of McLoud died Saturday at a McLoud nursing home. She was 98.
She was born Jan. 13, 1903, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., was the daughter of John Frank and Sarah Francis Schnider Petrick.
She married Arthur E. Rogers Feb. 26, 1924, and he preceded her in death April 13, 1982.
Rogers was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church since childhood.
She moved to McLoud at an early age with her parents and lived in the area the rest of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Alice and James Perry, Tecumseh; sister, Theresa Ruest, McLoud; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church with the Rev. Eugene Marshall, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
