Dorothy June Martin
Dorothy June Martin, 78, of Seminole died Saturday at St. Michael's Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was born Nov. 23, 1923, in McAlester, the daughter of Lon and Lillian (Templeton) Villines.
She married Maurice Martin on Sept. 7, 1941, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She worked at Seminole Steam Laundry for 16 years then at Adwan's Specialty Shop and Curry's Jewelry.
Martin was a member of First Methodist Church in Seminole and of UMW at the church. She also was a member of the Flower and Garden Club of Seminole.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Melba Seymour, and a brother L.J. Villines.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Max Martin of Sulphur, Okla., and Matt Martin of Tulsa; three sisters, Norissa Richardson of Seminole, Janna Clinton of Shawnee and Doris Notley of Oklahoma City; and three grandchildren, Marcie Martin of Phoenix, Ariz., and Caitlin and Avery Martin, both of Tulsa.
A service will be 4 p.m. today at Swearingen Chapel with the Rev. David Karges officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Gerald W. Zorger
Former Shawnee resident Gerald W. Zorger, 67, died Wednesday in Grand Prairie, Texas.
He was born Jan. 1, 1935, in Shawnee.
Zorger graduated from Shawnee High School in 1952 and served in the military with the 82nd Airborne.
He graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in geology. He worked in oil field exploration until his retirement in 1999.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Zorger.
Survivors include two daughters, Kelle Sanchez of San Antonio, Texas, and Kathy Leach of Grand Prairie, Texas; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Zorger of Shawnee; two granddaughters; brother, Ken Zorger of Norman; and sister Margaret Craig of Shawnee.
A graveside service will be held in Wichita, Kan., today.
Christopher Wayne Permetter
Christopher Wayne Permetter, 21, Earlsboro, died Saturday at Mission Hill Hospital.
Survivors include his parents, John Earl Permetter Sr. and Marilyn Slagle Permetter; two sisters, Staci Permetter, Earlsboro, Beverly Cooks, Macomb; four brothers, John Earl Permetter Jr., and Tarron Permetter, both of Earlsboro, and Gary Permetter and Randy Talton, both of Shawnee; and grandparents Peggy Lindsey and Rosa Lee Permetter, both of Earlsboro.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Earlsboro Cemetery.
Richard L. Schalk
Richard L. Schalk, 61, of Shawnee died Tuesday at his home.
He was born Feb. 2, 1940, in Overland Park, Kan., the son of Joseph Schalk and Pauline (Redfield) Schalk. He grew up and attended school in Belton, Mo., graduating from Peculiar, Mo., High School.
Schalk worked as an auditor for the Oklahoma Tax Commission, retiring in February 2001 after 27 years of service.
He married Veronica Wainscott in Oklahoma City on Jan. 4, 1972. He was a member of a Baptist church in Missouri. He had lived in Shawnee for the past seven years, moving here from Harrah, where he had lived for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Schalk, and a brother, Larry Schalk.
Survivors include his wife Veronica, of the home; his mother, Pauline Schalk, Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Allen and Carrie Schalk of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Kay Schalk of Shawnee, Cheryl Cabana of Worcester, Mass., and Elizabeth and Paul Pritchett of Plano, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Beverly Schalk of Holden, Mo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Jo Ann and Loyd Quick of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Johnathan Schalk, of the home, Cordero Schalk, Mariah Schalk, Dakota Schalk, Miranda Schalk, Timothy Cabana, Nicholas Cabana, Christina Pritchett and Maghan Pritchett; and five nephews.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Glen Pence officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Resthaven Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
The family has designated The American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road N.E., Atlanta, GA 30329 as appropriate for memorial contributions.
William Henry Coppinger
Tecumseh resident the Rev. William Henry Coppinger, 83, died Monday in Tecumseh.
He was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Tahlequah to Pete and Dona (Willis) Coppinger. He was raised and attended school in Bristow and moved to Tecumseh in 1958.
He married Doris Ann Pound Dec. 19, 1939, in Sapulpa.
He worked in oil fields after high school and entered the ministry in 1940s.
He served as pastor at churches in Duncan and Tecumseh with concurrent careers at the post office and Girl's Town as well as many other entrepreneural interests.
He was a member of the Full Gospel Church of Tecumseh, was a 32nd degree Mason of the McAlester Scottish Rite Consistory, a member of the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge, No. 69, AF & AM, and a member of the Cherokee Tribe.
He served with the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jesse and Joe Lee; one sister, Florene; and son-in-law, Delbert Sneed.
Survivors include his wife, Doris, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Fred Zimmerman of Tecumseh; a daughter, Martha Sneed of Tecumseh; grandchildren and spouses, Gina and Stephen Wylie of Choctaw, David and Christine Qualls of Tecumseh and Jarrod and Shayla Gentry of Tecumseh; a brother, Sham Coppinger of Claremore; four sisters, Maxine Reasor of Texas, Lucille Whitlow of Oklahoma City, Pauline Adams of Hilton Head, S.C., and Cleo Smith of Bristow; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Rutters and the Rev. Ruby Nell York officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
The casket will remain open until 1:45 p.m. Thursday and will not be reopened after the service.
Lee W. "Junior" Wadkins
Lee W. "Junior" Wadkins, 77, of Shawnee died Monday at his home.
He was born July 29, 1924, in Graham, Okla., the son of Rufus Lee and Louise Elizabeth Wadkins.
He attended school through the 11th grade. His education was cut short at age 17 when his parents died and he went to work to support his four younger siblings. He worked as an oil and gas drilling superintendent for Barrett Drilling Co., which was later acquired by Unit Drilling and Exploration Co.
Wadkins married Georgia Marlene Lewis on Dec. 15, 1944. He was a member of Central Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack Wadkins.
Survivors include his wife Marlene, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Marisa Wadkins of Tulsa; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Melvin Warden of Yukon; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Janette Wadkins of Fox, Okla.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna and Fred Rader of Henryetta and Geraldine and Vernon McDaniel of Albany, Texas; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Central Church of Christ in Shawnee with Dwyane Dennis officiating. Burial will be in Hewitt Cemetery at 3 p.m. The casket will be open at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel until 9 a.m. Thursday. It will not be open at the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Anna Belle Arney
Bethany resident Anna Belle Arney, 80, died Tuesday at a Bethany hospital.
Survivors include her sons, Michael Arney of Shawnee and Jack Arney of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one daughter, Tina Prichard of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services
will are 2 p.m. today at Corbett Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Kirkhuff officiating. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home.
Eddie La Foy
Eddie La Foy, 93, died Thursday.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline La Foy, of the home, one daughter and son-in-law, Eddoline and George Pagani of California, stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Kenneth and Margie Hazelwood, Arkansas; two grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Summit Ridge Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Burial follows at Summit Ridge Cemetery, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Home.
Mary Jo Manning
Tyron resident Mary Jo Manning, 46, died Friday at home.
Survivors include her husband, Danny Manning, of the home; two sons, Danny J. Manning, Prague, and John W. Manning, Chandler; two daughters, Cheryl Manning, Tyron, and Leah Manning, Chandler; her parents, Jim and JoDean Wilson, Chandler; two brothers, James A. Wilson, Sparks, and Mickey Ray Wilson, Chandler; and three sisters, Susy Earp, Chandler, Donna Kincaid, Sparks and Judy Stewart, Chandler.
Graveside services
will be 10 a.m., Monday at Star Valley Cemetery, Chandler, with Pastor Lydia Smith officiating. Parks Brother Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Elma Fogarty
Elma (Phillips) Fogarty, 83, of Seminole died Thursday at Seminole Estates Nursing Home.
She was born April 19, 1918, in Everton, Ark., the daughter of Temple Garrett and Auda Margaret (Swofford) Phillips.
She married John A. "Arch" Fogarty on Sept. 12, 1937. He preceded her in death.
Fogarty was a homemaker. She attended Varnum High School after her family moved to Seminole in 1927.
She was a member of Highway Baptist Church and Prairie Valley Home Extension Group.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and a son, John G. Fogarty on April 10, 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Brewer Lawson of Tulsa; a daughter-in-law, Margo Fogarty of Roswell, N.M.; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and W.C. Mills of San Angelo, Texas; four grandchildren, Robert Brewer and his wife Haley, Chelley Davison and her husband Mike, Heather Fogarty and Heath Chambers; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Highway Baptist Church with the Rev. John Haddock and the Rev. Cal Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Swearingen Funeral Home.
Grover Phillips
Former Tecumseh resident Grover Phillips, 89, died Wednesday at his home in Noble.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Kelly Phillips of Noble and Larry and Eva Phillips of Bozeman, Mont.; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Jeff Wichers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Stroud Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Kerr officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Wilson-Little Funeral Home, Purcell.
Mildred Lippert
Mildred Lippert, 82, of Shawnee died Thursday. Arrangements will be announced by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Richard Allen Brown Jr.
Stroud resident Richard Allen Brown Jr., 81, died Wednesday in Norman.
Surviving are his wife, Keturah Brown, of the home; two sons, Henry C. Brown of Naperville, Ill., and Richard A. Brown III of Overland Park, Kan.; one brother, Fred Brown of Hobbs, N.M., six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Stroud with the Rev. Sandy Chace officiating. Burial will follow at the Brown Family Cemetery near Stroud.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Services in Stroud.
