Edith Marie (Land) Schafer
Edith Marie (Land) Schafer of Shawnee died Monday at her residence. She was 89.
She was born Dec. 1, 1911, in Bearden, Okla., the daughter of Charles Edgar and Edna (Miller) Land.
Mrs. Schafer was a graduate of Bearden High School.
On July 22, 1933, she married Howard William Schafer in Ada. He preceded her in death Dec. 13, 1986.
The Shafers celebrated their golden anniversary July 22, 1983.
Mrs. Schafer was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, the Day Circle, ONG Wives Club and the Ongoers Club.
She lived in Bearden until 1955, then moved to Shawnee where her husband was employed with Oklahoma Natural Gas.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Land and Archie G. Land.
Survivors include brother, Ralph E. Land, Coalgate; nephews, David R. Land, Shawnee, Larry Land, Lafayette, Ind., Robert Land, St. Genevieve, Mo.; nieces, Trudie Garrett, House Springs, Mo., Loretta Templeton, Cape Girardeau, Mo., Matrid Land Foster, Midland, Texas; several great-nieces and great-nephews, including Ashley Land, Bryan Tomlinson of Tecumseh and John Land of Shawnee.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Scrutchins officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Tacy Carol (Jeffreys) Swarb
Tacy Carol (Jeffreys) Swarb, 50, of Shawnee died Tuesday at a local hospital.
She was born April 25, 1950, in Shawnee, the daughter of James and Irene Jeffreys.
She graduated from Shawnee High School.
On June 10, 1990, she married Randy Swarb in Oklahoma City. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Swarb was a member of Glad Tidings Assemblies of God Church in Shawnee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.
Survivors include three children, Jo Ann Jeffreys, David Jeffreys and Danelle Jeffreys; four grandchildren; two brothers, Steve Jeffreys and Dan Jeffreys; and several nieces and nephews.
A private burial was held at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Jimmie Lee Carter
Jimmie Lee Carter died Monday at a Shawnee hospital. He was 78.
He was born April 8, 1922, in Wewoka, Okla.
Mr. Carter joined the U.S. Army Feb. 17, 1942.
He came to the Shawnee area in 1941.
Mr. Carter received his education at Douglas School in Wewoka.
He married Lillie Mae Brown Sept. 1, 1942.
Mr. Carter worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 32 years before retiring on June 30, 1977.
He was a member of the Scipio Baptist Church, New Lima, and was a member of the brotherhood and served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister and brother.
Survivors include sisters, Veola Christopher, Phoenix, Ariz., and Geneva Proutt, Cushing; sister-in-law, Maudie Davis of Shawnee; brothers-in-law, Fred Brown, Acworth, Ga., and Larry Davis, Shawnee; niece and nephew, Glenda and the Rev. Willie Butler, Lawton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and many friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Galilee Baptist Church, Shawnee, with the Rev. W.R. Tripplett and the Rev. F.D. Cochran Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Mildred Y. Jones
Mildred Y. Jones, 71, of Tecumseh died Tuesday in Oklahoma City.
Services will be noon Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Other information is pending and will be announced.
Iva Mae Branscum
Iva Mae Branscum, 85, died Tuesday at her home in Okemah.
She was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Stone County, Ark., the daughter of Rile Martin and Ersa Smithee Martin.
On Oct. 8, 1932, she married Coy Charles Branscum in Okemah. He preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1995.
She was a member of the Morse Missionary Baptist Church.
She was a retired cook who had worked at the Banner School, Okfuskee County Hospital and the Okemah Nutrition Center.
She moved to the Okemah are at the age of 16.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Glen Branscum in 1996 and a brother, Kennell Martin.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Choc and Sue Branscum of Guthrie; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Charley Lowery of Shawnee; daughter-in-law, Millie Branscum; brother, Goldman Martin of Midland, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Brother George Lott, Brother Hershell Moore and Brother Rick McVeigh officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.
Virgie Naomi (Coker) Foreman
Virgie Naomi (Coker) Foreman of Seminole died Monday at a Seminole nursing home. She was 90.
She was born in Knoxville, Tenn., the daughter of Thimothy Otis Coker and Kizzie (Dunn) Coker.
She moved to Seminole from Ada in 1946.
On Feb. 6, 1943, she married Thomas J. Foreman in Wewoka. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1978.
She owned Virgie's Koffee Cup in Seminole.
Mrs. Foreman was a member of the Church of Christ in Seminole and the Rebekah Lodge of Seminole.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Tommy Eugene Manuel, on Jan. 22, 1979.
Survivors include son, John R. Fennell of Seminole; four daughters, Mary Ann Manuel of Ada, Naomi Dawhaus of Corpus Christi, Texas, Rose Lee Bolen of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Hellen Jo Earl of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Marion Leon Manuel, Jr., Sue Ann Ogle, Rockney K. Fennell, Scott D. Fennell, Ginger G. Stottlemyre, Debra E. Beiggs, Lesha Aten and Britt K. Hurst; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services
will be 11 a.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Shawnee, with Rusty Dawson officiating. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
George T. Peterson Jr.
Former Shawnee resident George T. Peterson Jr. died Thursday in Conway, Ark. He was 75.
Petersen was born April 29, 1925, in Travis, N.J.
He and his wife Mildred Fischer Petersen lived in Shawnee.
Following Mrs. Peterson's death, he moved to Conway, Ark.
Survivors include sister-in-law, Mayme F. Markwell, Meeker; three children; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother; and a sister of New York.
Edith May Alkire
Edith May (Patten) Alkire of Noble died Tuesday at Noble Healthcare Center, Noble, Okla. She was 93.
Mrs. Alkire was born Dec. 28, 1907, in the township of Old Burnette, northwest of Macomb, the daughter of Charles and Louisa Patten.
She was a longtime Macomb resident. She attended school in Wanette.
On Nov. 12, 1927, she married Louis Alkire at Big Jim Mission.
Mrs. Alkire was employed at the University of Oklahoma until her 1971 retirement.
In 1993, she moved from Macomb to Noble.
Survivors include five children, Vernon Alkire, Livingston, Tenn., Lou Alice Teeter, Madill, Charles Alkire, Macomb, Kathleen Greaves, Winston, Idaho, and Harley Alkire, Noble; sisters, Hazle Hunt, Macomb, and Ruth Wheeler, Priniville, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Faye Garrison, and great-grandson, Brandon Garrison.

will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Marrs Hill Cemetery under the direction of McMahan Funeral Home, Noble, with Richard Wilson officiating.
