Irvin Hiest Weathers
Irvin Hiest Weathers, 91, died Sunday morning.
Weathers was born in Romulus, Okla., on Jan. 4, 1909, to Washington Heist Weathers and Mattie Lou Wiggins Weathers. He went to Bethel School in Pottawatamie County and helped his father on the farm.
He married Roberta Rebecca Stout Aug. 23, 1926. They moved to San Bernardino, Calif., in 1931. She preceded him in death.
He was a salesman for Ellena Bros. Winery for 36 years.
In April, 1962, he married Sara Jean McMahon in Shawnee, where they made their home. She also preceded him in death.
In 1996, Weathers moved to American Fork, Utah, to live with his daughter. He belonged to the 20-30 Club and was an Elk for 20 years. He worshiped at the Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee.
He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Lou Shoell, American Fork, Utah; a son, John Irvin Weathers, Gardnerville, Nev.; three granddaughters, Michelle Bowden, Fresno, Calif.; Patty Lou Cook, Kanab, Utah; Robyn Clare Masterson, Birdseye, Utah; one grandson, David Black, Aromas, Calif.; eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee. Roesch-Walker Funeral Home, Shawnee, is in charge of arrangements.
Betty Louise Newnam
Betty Louise Newnam died Tuesday in Oklahoma City. She was 69.
She was born May 23, 1931, in Seminole. She was the daughter of Elbert M. and Nellie May (Endsley) Stephens.
She had been a resident of Davenport since 1957 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stroud. She was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years.
She retired from Davenport School cafeteria as a cook and was working for Wal-Mart in Chandler as a door greeter. She married William "Bill" Newnam in Chandler Oct. 22, 1949.
She was preceded in death by her father and one infant brother.
Survivors include husband, Bill of the home; three daughters, Kathy Dodson Weber and husband Mark of Tulsa; Shirley Hargis and husband Don of Clovis, Calif.; Billie Gaylord and husband Donnie of Davenport; mother, Nellie May Stephens of Enid; four brothers, James, Joe and Melvin Stephens of Enid; Bill Stephens of Mannford; five sisters, Dorothy Dillard of Enid; Mary Ninness of Enid; Florence Woods of Covington; Marjorie Liming of Purcell; Jeannie Escamilla of Enid; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Stroud with the Rev. Burl Mackey and the Rev. Don Hargis officiating. Burial will be in the Davenport Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Stroud.
Memorials may be made to the Family Life Center at the First Baptist Church in Stroud or the Cancer Society.
Doris Dean Watkins
Doris Dean Watkins died Tuesday in Oklahoma City. She was 62.
She was born Jan. 21, 1938, in Booneville, Ms. She was the daughter of James Claudie and Hazel (Cole) Martin.
She was a resident of Paden and worked as a supervisor for AT&T. She married Byron Ray Watkins Feb. 18, 1955.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Byron Ray Watkins of the home, Paden; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Sonya Watkins, Prague; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Glenda and David Carver, Paden; Debbie and Mark McCoy, Houston, Texas; Susie and Gary Beck, Paden; Trina Floyd, Prague; one brother, Hershel Martin, Bowlegs; two sisters, Edith Adams, Paden; Millie Hendrix, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Keith and Misty Carver, Jessica, Jason and Joshua Watkins, Dustin and Aaron McCoy, Hali Wright, Chase Leggett, Savanah Floyd; two great-grandchildren, Dalton Carver and Sydney Case.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague. Burial will follow in the Paden Cemetery.
Orey Fields
Orey "Les" Fields of Edmond died Saturday in Edmond. He was 57.
He was born April 8, 1943, in Shawnee. He was the son of Orey and Della Fields.
He was married to his wife, Andrea, for 10 years. He worked for McConnell Construction as an estimator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Pearl Fields.
Survivors include his wife, Andrea Fields, Edmond; daughters, Christy Fields, Shawnee, and Gina Moon, Shawnee; and two granddaughters.
Services will be 11 a.m. today at Baggerley Funeral Chapel, Edmond, with the Rev. Wesley Townsend officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. today at Fairview Cemetery.
Shirley Ann Tolbert
Shirley Ann Tolbert of Seminole died Tuesday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 74.
She was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Shidler. She was the daughter of William Taber and Betty (Bingham) Taber.
She was raised at the Carr City community and graduated from Carr City Public School. She married Joe Tolbert in Arkansas Feb. 7, 1948.
She worked at Custom Size in Wewoka and for United Truck Service in Seminole.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Ann Cathey, and brother, William Richard Taber.
Survivors include husband, Joe Tolbert of the home; two sons, Elmer Eugene Cathey of Konawa; David Truman Cathey of Bowlegs; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Bethel Jean Hejl of Lancaster, Texas; June Scroggins of Coalinga, Calif.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bowlegs First Baptist Church with Gene Darr officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Lorene Likens
Former Shawnee resident Lorene Likens died Tuesday in Steilacoom, Wash. She was 89.
Services are pending with Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Cecile Mae Anderson
Cecile Mae Anderson died Saturday in a local nursing home. She was 84.
She was born on Aug. 1, 1916, to Georgie Ann (Oaks) and John Small. She married Sam Anderson and was a housewife.
Preceding her in death are her sister, Rosa Lee Whitaker; brothers Roy Thomas and Charlie Small; husbands Robert Johnston and Bill Jobe; and son Billy Dean Jobe, son.
Survivors include her husband of Stigler.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Stigler Cemetery. Jim Anderson will officiate.
Paul H. Hopkins
Paul H. Hopkins died Tuesday in Tecumseh. He was 83.
He was born on July 8, 1917, in Guntown, Mo., to Rex and Violet (Horton) Hopkins. He was a graduate of Asher High School.
Hopkins married Geneva Plaster Sept. 13, 1943. He worked at the Navy Base in Norman and at Tinker Air Force Base. He also repaired saddles and did leather work.
He worked in the U.S. Navy troop transport in the South Pacific. He held membership with the New Hope Baptist Church, Shawnee Masonic Lodge, Shawnee Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Tecumseh Roundup Club.
He was preceded in death by son Jimmy Hopkins and his parents.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bill Evans of Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Paul "Hoppy" and Jean Hopkins of Norman; daughter-in-law Frankie Jo Ware of Tecumseh; six grandchildren, Karen Goodchild, Theresa Elam, Jimmy Wayne Hopkins, Kami Baker, Shelly Hall and Mike Evans, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy Honeycutt
Dorothy "Louise" Honeycutt died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was 74.
She was born on Jan. 20, 1926, in Rossville, to Wade and Hattie (Smith) Jackson. She married Ray Honeycutt Oct. 12, 1942. She moved to Shawnee in 1948 and had lived here since.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Ada Faye Jackson of Shawnee; two brothers-in-law, Giddie Honeycutt of Shawnee and Cortlin Horton of Prague; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Fairview Cemetery. Bill Matthews will officiate, assisted by Phil Thompson, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
