Ruby P. Hooper Baez
Former Seminole resident Ruby P. Hooper Baez died Tuesday in Cleveland, Ohio.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1942, in Sasakwa to Dave and Bertha (Douglas) Cully. She moved in 1963 to Ohio, where she married James Hooper and had four children.
She later married Jose Baez, with whom she had one child. While in Ohio she was affiliated with the American Indian Movement and was a licensed practical nurse.
She was preceded in death by her father, brother Roger W. Cully, and sister Shirley A. Cully.
Survivors include her mother of Tecumseh; son James Hooper Jr., of Cleveland, Ohio; four daughters and a son-in-law, Tina and Paul Houk, Serena Miranda, Levonna Hooper and Sacheen Spears, all of Cleveland, Ohio; one stepson, Jose Baez of Cleveland, Ohio; sister Martha Sherwood of Tecumseh, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dwayne and Barbara Cully of Newalla and Ed and Vicki Sherwood of Bethel, nine grandchildren and several other relatives.
A wake service will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Services are set for 2 p.m Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Douglas Family Cemetery in Seminole. A meal will be served at 10 a.m. Monday in the home of Martha Sherwood.
Beal Wyatt Pinson
Konawa Mayor Beal Wyatt Pinson died Thursday at the age of 78.
He was born on Nov. 21, 1921, in Dexter, N.M., to Theodosia and Carl Edward Pinson. He married Vada Ruth Buss on Oct. 13, 1948.
He was a retired farmer who moved to Konawa from Hobbs, N.M., in 1970.
He had been mayor of Konawa since May 2, 1994.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lenda and Jerry Briscoe of Ardmore, one son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Kim Penson of Konawa, three grandsons, Eric Lytle of Ardmore, Matthew Pinson of Seminole, Shane Lytle of Armore, two granddaughters, Misty Lytle of Ardmore and Kylia Pinson of Seminole, and one great-granddaughter, Erica Lytle of Ardmore.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Vamoosa Cemetery. The Rev. Gordon Richwine will officiate under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home, Konawa.
Evelyn (Lahonda) Megah
Evelyn (Lahonda) Megah, Shawnee, died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was 89.
She was born on May 20, 1911, in Asher, to Amasa and Verna McClatchy. She attended school in the Asher area and married Joe Smith Megah in 1930. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include her daughter, Jo Diaz of Shawnee, sister Betty Southern of Shawnee, brother Bill Johnson of Oregon, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Kerbo officiating. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Park.
Norman Edward Jeanson
Norman Edward "Micky" Jeanson, Oklahoma City, died Friday in a Midwest City hospital. He was 73.
Jeanson was born July 22, 1927, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Edward Axel and Thelma L. (Smith) Jeanson.
He attended schools in Springfield, Mo., and in New York, N.Y. He also attended to Fork Union Military School in Richmond, Va.
He married Shirley Morrel Dec. 27, 1962, and was a retired business owner.
Jeanson was a merchant mariner.
He lived most of his life in Long Beach, Calif., and moved to Oklahoma City in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Thelma Jeanson; and a stepson, Kevin Jeanson, in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jeanson, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mark Leas, Washington, D.C.; seven brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law and three grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel of Shawnee with Gary Eubanks, associate pastor of the Harrah First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Hazel Ragsdale
Shawnee resident Hazel Ragsdale died Saturday in a local hospital. She was 81.
Mrs. Ragsdale was born June 19, 1919, west of Shawnee, to Elijah and Lora (McDaniel) North.
She attended school in Fort Cobb, and worked in the lunch room at Oklahoma Baptist University.
She was a member of the East Main Church of Christ, and lived in Shawnee most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Elijah and Lora North; and a sister, Deborah Lynn.
Survivors include her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Phyllis Daley, Shawnee; Gayle and Gary Fisher, Shawnee; Brenda and Roy Roebuck, Shawnee; three sons, A.C. Ragsdale, Choctaw; Dean Ragsdale, Tecumseh; Larry Ragsdale, Choctaw; two sisters, Marie Howard, Euless, Texas; Helen North, Seattle, Wash.; friend, John Lewis, Shawnee; two half-sisters, Sharon Neese and Donna Kidwell, Tecumseh; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee, with Doyle Loveland officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Carol June Raper
Carol June Raper of Konawa died Friday at Ada. She was 63.
She was born Nov. 21, 1936, in Taylor, Texas. She was the daughter of Edith Mae (Barton) and William Arnold Sladek.
She was married to Harold G. Raper at Seminole on Dec. 26, 1959. She was a nurse and homemaker who had lived in the Konawa area since 1959.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Konawa.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Winford Sladek.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Raper, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dana and Pat Underwood, Idabel; Edie and Brad Linton, Mansfield, Texas; two brothers, Bill Sladek, Stratford, Texas; Jim Sladek, Royce City, Texas; one sister, Dorothy Zellnski, Arizona; five grandchildren, Pat Underwood Jr., Idabel; Kristen Underwood, Idabel; Emily Linton, Mansfield, Texas; Joshua Linton, Mansfield, Texas; Rachel Linton, Mansfield, Texas.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Pickard Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Charlie Henthorn. Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery.
Pearl S. Lowery
Pearl S. Lowery died Saturday in Shawnee. She was 99.
She was born Sept. 12, 1900, in Shawnee, the daughter of Clifford and Dora (Blair) Latta.
She had been a resident of Shawnee since 1969 and lived most of her life in Paden. She was a member of the Paden Holiness Church and was a homemaker.
She married Dave Lowery April 12, 1920, in Fort Smith, Ark. He preceded her in death July 4, 1963.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters and one daughter, Ruth Lowery.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Darlene Lowery, Okemah; Vance and Dee Lowery, Wanette; daughters and sons-in-law, Lillian and Joe Landrum, Seminole; Jane and Tommy Harris, Prague; Ann and Bill Woodard, Shawnee; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Wayne Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Paden Cemetery.
Elizabeth B. Casey
Elizabeth B. "Bunny" Casey, died Friday in a Joplin, Mo., hospital. She was 53.
Mrs. Casey was born Aug. 23, 1946, in Bakersfield, Calif., the daughter of Lois and Otto Wall.
She graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma State University for four years.
She married Dick Casey on Aug. 31, 1968, in Reno, Nev.
They owned and operated Food 4 Less stores in Joplin and Springfield, Mo., and the Food 4 Less Greenhouse.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; her father, Otto Wall; stepfather, Don Moore; and a sister, Virginia McCarty.
Survivors include her husband, Dick Casey; mother; a son, Brock Casey, Joplin, Mo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brooke and Tim Rentfro, Joplin, Mo.; Terri Shawn and Terry Ling, Beaumont, Texas; her mother, Lois Moore, Joplin, Mo.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Carol Wall, Altos, Calif.; Charles and Karen Brazell, Garland, Texas; and six grandchildren, Emily, Jordan, Ashley, Katherine, Casey and Kylee.
Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Joplin, Mo., or the Missouri Grocers Association Scholarship Fund of Springfield, Mo.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin, Mo.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, with John Watson and Charles Gibson officiating. Burial will be held later in Lowell Cemetery, in Lowell, Kan., under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
