Gladys Motley Mikish
Gladys Motley Mikish of Shawnee died Thursday in Shawnee. She was 87.
She was born July 9, 1913, in Eastern Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Oscar and Rosa Lee (Brawley) Townsend.
She attended Macomb schools and was reared in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
She lived in Macomb and in Tecumseh for many years. She also had lived in the South Rock Creek area since 1971.
She married Bill Motley on Oct. 3, 1931, and he preceded her in death on June 20, 1964.
She then married Frank Mikish on Jan. 13, 1971, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1998. She worked in alterations and sales for Brawley's, Imogene's, Smiley's and Diddle's clothing stores.
She was a member of the First Church of God in Tecumseh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Billie Joyce and Robert Westfall of Shawnee; one granddaughter and spouse, Donna and Bob Mayo of Tecumseh; three grandsons and their spouses, Michael Lee Wilson of Shawnee, Jimmy and Ginger Wilson of Kingfisher and Rick and Jodi Westfall of Mesquite, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Laurie Mayo, Doug Mayo, Sarah Mayo, Jason Wilson, Kyle Wilson, Ryan Wilson, Andy Wilson, Ashley Wilson, Josh Wilson, Christian Westfall and Kyle Westfall; and two great-great-grandchildren, Lane Wilson and Taylor Wilson.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Robert Westfall, assisted by Ervin Anderson, officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Richard Randolph Lackey
Richard Randolph Lackey of Shawnee died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 79.
He was born Feb. 9, 1921, in Shawnee the son of Richard Lackey and Berscilla (Murry) Lackey.
He attended Shawnee Public Schools. He was a member of the track team at Shawnee High School. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base with 16 years of service as an aircraft mechanic.
Prior to his Tinker Air Force Base career, he had worked many years as a cook in the U.S. Army, at Van's Pig Stand, The Log House restaurant and at the City Cafe.
He married Ella Marie (Munn) Lackey in Chandler on Sept. 7, 1940.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He served in World War II in the South Pacific.
He also served in the 45th Infantry National Guard unit during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the VFW.
He was a member of the American Legion of Tecumseh. He belonged to Blackburn Baptist Church of Shawnee and Soldier Creek Baptist Church of Midwest City.
He lived in the Shawnee area, spending most of his adult life in the Bethel community.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, one brother and three sisters. He was also preceded in death by his wife, who died in 1987, after 47 years of marriage.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Marie and Richard Tarpey, Dale; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Randolph Lackey and Jan Polumbus, Tulsa; Timothy Brian and Janet Lackey, Claysburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Randy Tarpey, Russell Tarpey, Rex Tarpey, Erin Crosby, Pamela Riley, Amber Lackey, Jennifer Lackey and Brandon Lackey; six great-grandchildren and a special friend, Mary Louise Shoopman, Shawnee.
Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dan Reihing officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
The family has designated the Salvation Army of Shawnee as appropriate for memorial contributions.
Joe Faircloth
Funeral services
for former Shawnee resident Joe Faircloth of Pryor will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Church of God in Pryor.
Viewing will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m.to 9 p.m. Monday.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Stephens Memorial Chapel in Pryor.
Services are under the direction of Stephens Memorial Chapel in Pryor.
Gailard D. Raffety
Gailard D. Raffety of Shawnee died Saturday at his home. He was 75.
He was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Slick, Okla., to Henry Oscar and Mary Jane (Woods) Raffety.
He moved with his parents to Bristow and then to Seminole in 1936, where he attended Seminole schools. In 1994, he moved to Shawnee from Pink.
Mr. Raffety worked in construction for many years and retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1996.
He married Mary Ellen Scott on Nov. 5, 1949, in Seminole. He had joined the U.S. Army Air Corps on April 1, 1942, and served in England as a radio decoder and sheet metal mechanic.
He was a past member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Lawrence and Cleo Raffety; and a sister and brother-in-law, Eva M. and Rodney Stone.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Raffety of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Tommy Lambert of Oklahoma City; a son, Gary Raffety of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Michelle and David Lambert of Oklahoma City; a special son, Gary Bates of Oklahoma City; two sisters-in-law, Naomi Raffety of Cushing and Juanita Raffety of Solo, Mo.; five nephews; and three nieces.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Glen Pence officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Marian Cordell Napper
Marian Cordell Napper died July 1, in Scotsdale, Ariz. She was 84.
She was born Jan. 1, 1916, at Romulus and was a resident of Pottawatomie County for 35 years.
She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1935 and was past president of the Tecumseh High School Alumni Association.
She was the daughter of Oklahoma pioneer doctor, U.S. Cordell.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Willingham Maron.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Napper of Scotsdale, Ariz.; one daughter, Betty Carol Willingham Kostan of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; two granddaughters; two grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and three great-grandsons.
A memorial service is planned for Aug. 19 at the South Bay Christian Church in Redondo Beach, Calif.
William Carlisle Nuckolls
Shawnee native William Carlisle "Bill" Nuckolls of Birmingham, Ala. died Friday, July 21 at a Birmingham nursing home. He was 84.
He was born March 22, 1916, in Shawnee to Carlisle and Tommie Nuckolls.
Mr. Nuckolls graduated from Georgia Military Academy in 1933 and from Vanderbilt University in 1937. He worked for Carter Oil Company, and in 1950, he co-founded Nuckolls-Bell Oil Co. with his cousin, Alvin S. Nuckolls, and friend, Chub Bell. He later worked as a consultant and appraiser, traveling around the world.
He married Margaret Ann Rice on Sept. 7, 1940.
He was a longtime resident of Nichols Hills.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife in 1996.
Surviving are a son, Charles Nuckolls, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandson Will Nuckolls of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and cousin, Alvin S. Nuckolls.
Graveside services
will be 10 a.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery. A Memorial will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Crown Heights United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City with the Rev. Bob Mash officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Stella Elizabeth Deaton
Stella Elizabeth Deaton of Shawnee died Thursday at her residence. She was 77.
She was born Nov. 15, 1922, in Fort Collins, Colo. She was the daughter of Norman Edward Gabriel and Sophronia Melinda (Lyon) Gabriel.
She was a homemaker and a home health care nurse. She married Carl Deaton on Jan. 19, 1986, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist. She moved to Tecumseh in May of 1997 from Provo, Utah.
She previously lived in San Diego, Calif., and Bandera, Texas.
She was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Rose Byers, Tecumseh, Carol Nerrine Mendoca, Simi Valley, Calif., and Linda Ruth Mathews, Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Neil Gabriel, Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister, Eva Rose Naslund; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorial services were held 2 p.m. Saturday. Services were under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
