L.R. Batt
McLoud resident L.R. "Hub" Batt died Sunday at a McLoud nursing home. He was 88.
He was born Nov. 2, 1911, in McLoud to William Thomas and Ruthenie (Wells) Batt.
He married Frances Ethel Horton Jan. 28, 1938.
Batt lived all his life in McLoud, within one and a half miles of where he was born. He attended White Rock Schools and graduated from McLoud High School.
He was a farmer and carpenter. He had retired from Tinker Air Force Base.
Survivors include his son, Tom Batt, Moore; daughter-in-law, Becky Batt, Grapevine, Texas; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friend, Marie Gough, McLoud.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of McLoud with the Rev. Cyndy Schillinger. Burial will be at Jamison Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
James Wesley Cansler
James Wesley Cansler died Monday in Oklahoma City. He was 74.
He was born Nov. 26, 1925, in Chandler, the son of Charles J. and Lois (Vincent) Cansler.
He married Bernice Clarkson March 26, 1948, in Chandler.
Cansler lived in Oklahoma City for many years, working for Montgomery Ward. He was a member of the Village Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He was past president of the Oklahoma Chrysanthemum Society and a member of the National Board of Chrysanthemum Society. He was a 32-degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Cansler, of the home; brother, Jean C. Cansler, Norfolk, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Chandler. Burial will follow at New Zion Cemetery in Chandler.
Loretta Bridge
Longtime Wellston resident Loretta Bridge died Monday in Edmond. She was 74.
She was born May 20, 1925, in Paden, the daughter of Harvey Jefferson and Sinia California (Hurn) Jones.
She married Palmer Bridge June 11, 1943, in Davenport. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Palmer Bridge, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Treva Bridge, Wellston; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Roger Mandrell, Oklahoma City; sister and brother-in-law, Christina and Warren Johnson, Chandler; four grandchildren, Darci and Marissa Bridge, Wellston, and Jennifer and Doug Mandrell, Oklahoma City; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one granddaughter, Charity Bridge.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God Church of Chandler with the Rev. Doyle Seeley and the Rev. Dewayne Settle officiating. Burial will follow at the New Zion Cemetery in Chandler under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.
Troy Ray Harmon
Troy "Perch" Harmon died Sunday in Chandler. He was 83.
He was born March 17, 1917, in Newcastle, the son of Robert and Evelyn (Madison) Harmon.
He married Wanda Madison in 1936 in Oklahoma.
Harmon was a longtime Chandler resident and worked as a cabinet maker.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his son, Walter Harmon, Broken Arrow; daughters, Bonnie Harmon, Wagoner, and Mary Rice, Broken Arrow; brother, Junior Harmon, Washington; sister, Esther Earlabaugh, Tulsa; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler with the Rev. Doyle Seeley officiating under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.
Mildred Vanlandingham
Mildred Vanlandingham of Tecumseh died Monday in Shawnee. She was 87.
She was born June 1, 1912, in Shawnee. She was the daughter of William Alfred and Callie Mae (Mathis) Perry.
She was a graduate of Bethel High School. On June 12, 1932, she married J.E. Vanlandingham in the Bethel Community.
Mrs. Vanlandingham was a homemaker. She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church.
She studied piano for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband July 8, 1976; her parents; one sister, Martha Ann Perry and nephew, William Jeff Perry.
Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Alice Perry of Tecumseh; William A. and Joan Perry of Tecumseh; nephew, Jim Perry of Destin, Fla.; niece, Ronnye Perry Sharp of Tecumseh.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Broadway United Methodist Church, Tecumseh with the Rev. Beryl Kingsbury and the Rev. Will Bentley officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday.
Lester Cannon
Seminole resident Lester "Pompey" Cannon died Monday. He was 77.
Cannon was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Little to Lester "Boss" and Lois (Aylor) Cannon.
He graduated from Strother Schools, Seminole State College, Tishomingo State College and North Eastern Teacher College and attended extended studies at Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma and Central State University.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was wounded in action. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 36 years.
He also worked as a principal, teacher and coach at Atwood High School and was a teacher and coach at Strother High School.
He coached Little League and American Legion baseball teams and was recently inducted into the Seminole State College Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lorene (Guinn) Cannon; daughter and son-in-law, Corkey and Jim Cantrell, Dallas, Texas; two sons, Lester Cannon and his fiancee Carla Vedros, Moore; Ken Cannon and partner, Duane Erwin, Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Kristy Benardello and husband John, Midwest City; Brady Cantrell and fiancee, Bridget O'Reilly, Lee's Summit, Mo.; Nicki Cannon, Austin, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Courtney Jenkins and John Michael Benardello, both of Midwest City; two brothers, Billy Cannon and wife Dorothy, Seminole; Jimmy Dale Cannon, Seminole.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Seminole, with Ron Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Falls Creek Cabin Building Fund.
Robert Spoon Sr.
Robert Spoon Sr. of Norman died Tuesday. He was 63.
He was born March 11, 1937, in Little Axe. He was the son of Fred and Lola (Little Axe) Spoon.
He has lived most of his life in the Little Axe Community. Spoon was employed by Tarver Construction.
He later owned and operated "Bob's Garage." For the last 10 years he moved mobile homes into the Little Axe Community, doing the setting and blocking.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include four daughters and one son-in-law, Teri Tsoodle of Oklahoma City; Jeri and Robert Yeahpau of Anadarko; Ramona Spoon of McLoud; Myrna Roberts of Oklahoma City; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. "Bobby" and Theresa Spoon of Little Axe; Chris Spoon and Mike Silmon both of McLoud; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; six sisters, Flossie Dousett and Marie Gibson, both of Norman; Dorothy Rupe of Yuma, Ariz.; Shirley (Spoon) Simpson and Geraldine Abrams, both of Newalla, and Linda Foster of Tecumseh; four brothers, Buckie Little Charley and Carl D. Spoon, both of Norman; Stephen P. Spoon an Virgil Little Charley, both of Newalla.
T.B. Martin
Tecumseh resident T.B. Martin died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 69.
Martin was born Nov. 6, 1930, to William Keith Martin Sr. and Mattie (McCord) Martin.
He served in the U.S. Navy and married Herloise M. McCrary in 1963 in Pomona, Calif.
He was a retired truck driver for Jack Cooper Transports was a member of the Stock Yard Masons of Fort Worth, Texas.
Survivors include his son, Chuck Martin; daughter, Raynelle Griffith, Shawnee; grandson, Thomas McCurry III, Shawnee; sisters, Bettie Garretson and Ada Like, both of Everman, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Betty Jo Martin, Santa Rosa, Calif.
Services will be 3 p.m. today at Laurel Land Cemetery, Fort Worth, Texas, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
