Bertha E. Lovell
Bertha E. Lovell died Friday in Prague. She was 92.
Mrs. Lovell was born Dec. 5, 1907, near Tecumseh, to Elmer and Margaret (Dowell) Coulter.
She married Charles Luther Lovell on June 24, 1933. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1974.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Margaret Coulter; two brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include her four nephews and their spouses, Dennis and Agnes Coulter, Prague, Elmer and Sandy Coulter, Shawnee, Rayburn and Dorothy Bentley, California, and Kenneth and Marilyn Bentley, California; five nieces and spouses, Madge Bowman, Prague, Barbara Iverson, Prague, June and Bill Roberts, Texas, Louise and Elvin Brown, California, and Lois Graham, California.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Prague Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Powell officiating.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.
Robert Jones
Shawnee resident Robert "Bob" Jones died Saturday at his home. He was 48.
Services are pending under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
Mary Marcella Farris
Meeker resident Mary Marcella Farris died Sunday in a local hospital. She was 76.
Mrs. Farris was born April 1, 1924, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Elmer H. and Nellie (Heyer) Grady.
She graduated from high school in 1942 in Golden, Colo.
She married Rex Farris on July 26, 1945, in Walla Walla, Wash.
She worked as a grid inspector for Sylvania and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Farris was a member of three car clubs, the Early Ford V-8 Club, the Hudson Car Club and the Lincoln County 66 Cruisers.
She attended the Assembly of God Church in Shawnee.
She had lived in the Shawnee and Meeker areas since 1945, and also resided in Richland, Wash., from 1948-1950.
Mrs. Farris was preceded in death by her daughter, Carrol June Fields; a grandson, Michael Rider; parents, Elmer and Nellie Grady; and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Rex Farris of the home; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Merrilee and Lester Wynn Sr., Shawnee; Ronnie Fields, Guthrie; Ella Farris, Meeker; Peggy Rider, Shawnee; Debbie and Greg Bradley, Alva; son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Beverly Farris, Meeker; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home, Shawnee, with the Rev. Ronnie Fields officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Nora A. Steele
Shawnee resident Nora A. Steele died Sunday at a local hospital. She was 87.
Mrs. Steele was born Aug. 29, 1912, in Oilton, Okla., to William Lewis and Mary R. (Huckaby) Parnell. She moved to Shawnee in 1943 and worked at Finley Cleaners.
Survivors include his sister, Jewel Harris, Visalia, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with Dr. Reed Lynn officiating.
Paul H. Evans
Perkins resident Paul H. Evans died Friday in Stillwater. He was 82.
Evans was born Dec. 31, 1917. in Howe, Okla. He married Anna Marie Hollander on May 20, 1942, in Stillwater.
He attended Howe Schools and Eastern Oklahoma College in Wilburton. He received his bachelor of science degree in animal science from Oklahoma A&M College in 1941 and his master of science degree from Oklahoma State University in 1956. In 1941, he began teaching science and coaching in Howe, then in Davenport, where he established the Davenport Vocational Agricultural Department in 1943. He taught vocational agriculture in the Perkins-Tryon Schools since 1944 and retired on June 30, 1988.
He also coached Little League baseball, served as a Boy Scout master, served on the Advisory Council at Eastern Oklahoma State College, where he helped establish the meats department and served on the Payne County Free Fair Board. He was also a volunteer firefighter, served as the Perkins community Easter bunny and was a member of Perkins Methodist Church, the Lions Club, Oklahoma Vocational Association, American Vocational Association, Oklahoma Education Association, National Education Association and Perkins-Tryon Classroom Teachers Association.
He was named Payne County Teacher of the Year, Teacher of Teachers, Honorary State Farmer, Honorary American Farmer and a scholarship was founded in his name to the agricultural education department of Oklahoma State University in 1984.
Survivors include daughter, Paula Evans, Edmond; daughter and son-in-law, Don and Mary Evans Thain, Corpus Christi, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Paul and Sheila Evans, Tecumseh; grandchildren, Robert Chada, Tulsa, Evan Chada, Edmond, Tammy Patterson, Austin, Texas, Christi Thain, College Station, Texas, Jenny Thain, Corpus Christi, and Paul Evans and Jill Evans, Stillwater; great-grandchild, Kaleb Patterson, Austin; sister, Edith Parks, Victorville, Calif.; brothers, Murray Evans, Escondito, Calif., and Fred Evans, Seattle, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 8, 1991, and his parents.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Perkins, with the Rev. Charles Wall and the Rev. Susan Ross officiating. Burial was in Perkins Cemetery under the direction of Strode Funeral Home, Stillwater.
Memorials may be made to Paul and Anna Marie Evans Agricultural Farm.
Rolan A. Lewallen
Rolan A. "R.A." Lewallen died Saturday at his home near Wellston. He was 79.
He was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Pocahontas, Ark. He was the son of Jessie and Idelle (Roberts) Lewallen.
He married La-Wanda Davis Oct. 31, 1950, in Hoxey, Ark.
Lewallen served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. Upon his return home, he went to the University of Oklahoma, where he studied electronics. After completing his studies, he went into radio and television sales and services.
Survivors include his wife, La-Wanda Lewallen of the home; sons, David Lewallen, Ridgecrest, Calif., and Jimmy Lewallen, Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Viewing and visitation will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Parks Brothers Chapel in Wellston.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God Church in Wellston with the Rev. Dewayne Settle officiating. Burial will follow at the Wellston Cemetery under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.
Grace Oldham Stapp
Grace Oldham Stapp of Shawnee died Saturday at a local nursing home. She was 96.
She was born Oct. 18, 1903, in Shawnee. She was the daughter of Ethel and Henry Farris.
Stapp was a homemaker.
She married J.B. Oldham on Jan. 21, 1924. He preceded her in death.
She married Edward "Monk" Stapp in April 1966 in Shawnee. He also precede her in death.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, one son, James J. Oldham; one daughter, Willa L. Wilson and two brothers, Kennard and Vernon Farris.
Survivors include two sons, Victor Oldham, Shawnee, and Raymond Lee Oldham, Memphis, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and one brother, Leonard Farris, Shawnee.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hopewell Cemetery with Rev. DuWayne Colvin officiating under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The casket will not be opened at the cemetery.
