Elizabeth K. Martin
Elizabeth K. Martin, 73, a resident of Albuquerque, N.M., for 50 years, died at her home Friday.
She was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Tecumseh to Verne and Laura Koons. She was preceded in death by her husband, T.J. Martin.
Survivors include daughter, Laura Martin, and son-in-law, Sajid Martin, Santa Cruz, Calif.; sisters, Juanita Bowers, Rogers, Ark.; Alice Wisdom, Las Vegas, Nev., and many others.
She was a member of Northeast Heights Senior Bowling League.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at French Mortuary University Boulevard Chapel, Albuquerque, N.M., with the Rev. Hap Worsham officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Health Care Foundation, Home Care and Hospice Fund, Box 26666, Albuquerque N.M. 87125-6666.
Kenneth Ray Silas
Konawa resident Kenneth Ray Silas died Wednesday in Konawa at the age of 65.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Brown, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home in Konawa. Rosary service was Friday.
Silas was born April 4, 1933, in St. Louis, to Hubert "Pete" and Ines Marie (Vieux) Silas. He married Matilda Lehman on Dec. 31, 1966, in Midland, Texas. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a backhoe operator and oil field worker.
Survivors include his wife, Matilda Silas of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Nick and Tammy Silas, Ronnie and Diane Silas, all of Maud, Sam and Martine Silas of Konawa; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Darryl and Ladonna Kuestersteffen of Konawa, Michael and Vicki Kuestersteffen of Vero Beach, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammie and Brad Schultz of Prague, Susie and Ted Huggins of Konawa; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Mickey Johnson of Konawa; 15 grandchildren; two brothers, Carol W. Silas, S.t Louis; Charles Leroy Silas, Tecumseh, and four sisters, Murieldean Laxton, Midland, Texas; Patricia Hargus, St. Louis, Sue Milburn and Delta Hogan, both of Shawnee
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ines Brinlee and Pete Silas, and a sister, Connie Wood.
Berry family
Graveside services for four members of a Konawa family who died Saturday in a traffic accident are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Vamoosa Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Winters will officiate and arrangements are under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa.
Penny Jean Berry was born June 3, 1964, in Konawa to Louise Howell and Alvert Taylor and died at the age of 34. She married Darren Berry at Konawa on Feb. 21, 1998, and was a repair worker for Custom Coating Company.
She is survived by her parents, Alvert and Louise Taylor, Seminole; daughter, Amanda Simpson, and son, Ricky Simpson, both of the home; brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry Wayne and Vicky Taylor, Wewoka; David and Dana Taylor, Seminole; Rodney and Becky Taylor, Sioux City, Iowa; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Anglin, Sapulpa; Linda and David Mead, Smithland, Iowa; Judy and Lonnie Goodnight, Coweta, and many other relatives.
Darren Keith Berry was born Jan. 11, 1965, in Ada, the son of Moseline and Roscoe Berry, and died at the age of 33. He was a truck driver and mechanic.
His mother preceded him in death. He is survived by his father, Roscoe Berry, Konawa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Jodie Berry, St. Louis; Danny and Debby Berry, Konawa; Jerald and Trudy Berry, Shawnee, and many other relatives.
Brenda Berry was born April 4, 1990, in Oklahoma, the daughter of Trisha Barker and Darren Berry. She was 8 and a Konawa resident.
Courtney Berry was born Feb. 8, 1989, in Oklahoma, the daughter of Trisha Barker and Darren Berry. She was 9 and a resident of Konawa.
The girls are survived by their mother, Trisha Hoover, Holdenville; stepgrandfather and grandmother, John and Rocky Avery, Holdenville; grandfather and stepgrandmother, John and Junelle Barker, Seminole; grandfather, Roscoe Berry, and many other relatives.
J. F. Johnson
Shawnee resident J. F. Johnson died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 76.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Calmes officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
Johnson was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Atoka, Okla., to J. N. and Mamie (Johnson) Johnson. He married Lorraine Partin on Oct. 26, 1941, in Seminole.
Johnson graduated from Atoka High School in 1938 and from East Central State University in 1942 with a bachelor's degree in instrumental and vocal music education. He earned a master of music education degree from The University of Oklahoma in 1947.
Johnson served in the U.S. Naval Reserve aboard the USS Astoria during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was president of Shawnee Association of Classroom Teachers and vice president of East Central Oklahoma Music Educators Association.
He served as Shawnee High School Band Director for 18 years and later served as choral music director for the secondary schools.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Johnson, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ed Miley, Boulder, Colo.; daughter, Kay Massey, Boulder, Colo.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ruby Janell Veitenheimer
Ruby Janell Veitenheimer died Sunday at her home. She was 63.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary, with the Rev. Charles Massoth, O.S.B., officiating.
Veitenheimer was born June 20, 1935, in Henryetta to Grace McFarland and George Ray. She married Pete P. Veitenheimer in May 1960 in Oklahoma City.
Veitenheimer was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Pete Veitenheimer Jr., of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Pete and Lisa Veitenheimer III, William and Tanya Veitenheimer; sons, John Veitenheimer and Gary Veitenheimer; daughters and sons-in-law, Ladena and Jim Jefferies, Tammy and Yancey Swantek, Dana and Elwood Smith; daughters, Donna Baker and Sherry Chriswell; brother and sister-in-law, Matt and Betty Veitenheimer; sister-in-law, Ruth Veitenheimer; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.
Curtis Van French
Former Tecumseh resident Curtis Van French died Friday in McAlester. He was 46.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with Bill Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.
French was born Jan. 25, 1952, in Shawnee to Van and Helen (Aday) French.
French was a 1970 graduate of Tecumseh High School. He was employed at as an oil field contract pumper. He moved to McAlester in 1981.
Survivors include his stepmother, Margie French, McAlester; father, Van French, McAlester; mother, Helen French, Tecumseh; stepdaughter, Scarlett Wall, Ada; sister, Rhonda Holbert, Tecumseh; sister and brother-in-law, Tracy and Glen Villines, Tecumseh; brother, Wade French, Stillwater; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Colene Virginia Smith
Former Shawnee resident Colene Virginia Smith of Stonewall died Sunday. She was 74.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Fairview Cemetery, Shawnee, under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home of Ada.
She was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Nocona, Texas, to Howard and Dovey Nelson Miller. She attended school in Shawnee and had moved to Stonewall in the 1940s.
She married Sam Reynolds, who died in 1976. She later married James Smith in Stonewall.
She had worked as a seamstress at Blue Bell (Wrangler), was a longtime member of Stonewall Church of Christ and a member of Stonewall Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Oleta Miller, Oklahoma City; niece, Roxanna Wright, Oklahoma City, and many others.
Isabel Byrd
Shawnee resident Isabel (Sue) Byrd died Saturday at a local hospital. She was 85.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, with Evangelist Bob Curry officiating.
Byrd was born Dec. 20, 1912, in Wynnewood to Eddie and Minerva Bruner. She married L.S. Byrd in 1941 in Seminole.
Byrd attended schools in Wynnewood and Pauls Valley. She moved to Shawnee in 1955 and was a member of the Church of God in Christ Holiness Church.
Survivors include nieces, Mary Frances Booker, Shawnee; Cecilia King, Oakland, Calif.; nephews, Allen Gordon, Sacramento, Calif.; James Gordon, Shawnee; Louis King, San Francisco, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1992; four brothers and three sisters.
