Kathryn (Woodfork) Sneed
Kathryn (Woodfork) Sneed died July 29 at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa. The Seminole resident was 78.
She was born Feb. 10, 1921, in McIntosh County to Sam and Lela (Frazier) Woodfork.
She married J.L. Sneed, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church of Seminole, the Missionary Society, the Sunday School Usher Board and the church choir.
Mrs. Sneed was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lela Woodfork, and sister, Jackie Brown, and one brother.
Survivors include her brother, Henry Woodfork, Detroit, Mich.; sister, Rosetta Striblen, Tulsa; aunts, Viola Ross and Janetta White, both of Checotah; brother-in-law, John Sneed; sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Saunders and Mable Stillwell, both of Seminole; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday.
Alton C. Klemek Sr.
Bethel Acres resident Alton C. "Al" Klemek Sr. died Friday at a Midwest City hospital. He was 66.
He was born March 5, 1933, in Parkers Prairie, Minn., to Maxmillian Klemek and Philomena Thoennes Klemek.
He married Mary Lea Housman Sept. 21, 1952, in Miami, Okla.
An accomplish machinist, he served as the general foreman at Eaton Corp. of Shawnee from 1977 to 1984. He was self-employed from 1984 until his retirement in 1995.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from December 1951 until December 1955, as well as during the Korean conflict. He served in the Air Police as an A2 Corporal and was discharged at Randolph Air Base in 1955.
He was a 35-year member of the American Legion. He lived in the Bethel Acres/Shawnee area since 1977.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lea Klemek, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Klemek Carter and Donald Carter, Choctaw, and Michelle Klemek Johnson and Harrison Johnson, Midwest City; sons and daughter-in-law, Bernard Wayne and Linda Klemek, Zumbrota, Minn., and Alton Charles Klemek Jr., Falls Church, Va.; grandchildren, Tony and Kyle Klemek Compton and Matthew and Kaitlin Carter; step-grandchildren, Jeremy and Chris Hotlen; brothers, Lawrence Klemek and Max Klemek, of Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. David R. Smith officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Lyda Mae Negahnquet
Shawnee resident Lyda Mae "Theresa" Negahnquet died Tuesday in Shawnee. She was 81.
Mrs. Negahnquet, also known as the "Hat Lady," was born Dec. 15, 1917, in Bennington to William Wilson and Lyda (McClure) Stark.
She married Jospeh A. Negahnquet Sept. 16, 1941, in Oklahoma City.
She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School at Sacred Heart. She also graduated from St. Anthony College for Nursing.
She was raised in Sacred Heart and also lived in Oklahoma City and Maryland. She later moved to Santa Ana, Calif., before returning to Macomb in the early 1970s after retiring. She resided there the remainder of her life.
She retired as a registered nurse after many years of service as a private duty nurse caring for terminally ill patients. After retirement, she sold Tupperware.
She was a member of the Oblate of St. Benedict and St. Gregory's Abbey. She also was a parishioner of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Konawa.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 19, 1989. She also was preceded in death by her son, William Joseph Negahnquet, and two grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Jo Nell Negahnquet, Camden, Ark.; Theresa Marie Neal, Tucson, Ariz.; Kathryn Ann Hallam, Shawnee; Lyda Rebecca Stinnett, San Dimas, Calif.; and Susan Bernadette Martinez, Long Beach, Calif.; sons, Lt. Col. Stephen Henry Negahnquet, USMC, Marbury, Md.; and Thomas Francis Negahnquet, Shawnee; brother, William Wilson Stark II, Dubuque, Iowa; sister, Margaret Mary Turner, Memphis, Tenn.; and Carolyn Schmidlkofer, Tecumseh; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.
Rosary, followed by a vigil, will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Konawa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Konawa with Father Matthew J. Brown, O.S.B., and Brother Justin Jones, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Konawa.
Ada Belle (Mills) West
Seminole resident Ada Belle (Mills) West died Wednesday at Seminole Medical Center. She was 79.
She was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Sylvian to R.M. and Bertie Mae (Arnold) Mills.
She married Johnnie Lee West Jan. 31, 1939, in Little.
Mrs. West was raised in Seminole. She moved to Cushing and returned to Seminole in 1994.
She was co-owner of Eunice's Dress Shop in Cushing.
Mrs. West was a member of the First Christian Church in Seminole, Shell Retirees Club and Christian Women's Fellowship Group.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Johnnie West, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Andrea West, Highland Village, Texas; daughter, Darlene Rogers, Flower Mound, Texas; sister, Edna Parrish, Seminole; brothers, Claude Mills, Midland, Texas, Bob Mills, Seminole, and W.C. Mills, San Angelo, Texas; five grandchildren, Andrea West, Devon West, Jeff West, Darcy Lewis and Dan Lewis; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.
Ruth D. Swigart
Mooreland resident Ruth D. Swigart died Wednesday in Mooreland. She was 80.
Ruth Dale Collins Swigart was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Konawa. She was the daughter of W.A. and Willie (Greer) Collins.
She was raised in Konawa and attended school there, graduating from Konawa High School in 1936. She attended business college at East Central and graduated in 1938.
After graduation, she worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Konawa.
She married Velden R. Swigart Jan. 11, 1941, in Durant, and they made their home in Konawa. In 1940, they moved to Mooreland, where Mrs. Swigart lived for the rest of her life.
Mrs. Swigart worked for the Rural Electric Cooperative in the early 1950s, and in the mid 1950s, she worked for the Oklahoma Farm Bureau claims office. In 1967, she opened the Snack Shack in Mooreland. She operated the Snack Shack off and one until retiring in 1987.
Mrs. Swigart was a member of the First United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She was active in the U.M.W., WSCS and Sunday school. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Woodward Rebekah Lodge No. 73, 4-H Club, Order of the Eastern Star and Garden Club. In the 1950s, she was chairman of the Woodward County Democratic Central Committee.
She was a member of the High Plains Vo-Tech Board for 10 years, serving from 1984 to 1994.
Survivors include her husband, Velden, of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Birdie Swigart, Woodward, and Ronnie Swigart, Mooreland; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jamie Kee, Beaver; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Darden Lee and Glen Smith, Little, Jerry and Delmer Woods, Shawnee, and Jean Starns, Konawa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Nancy Jane; and sister, Mildred Gassaway.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church in Mooreland with the Rev. Emery Mason officiating. Burial will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery under the direction of Billings Funeral Home, Woodward.
Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or the First United Methodist Church of Mooreland, with the funeral home acting as custodians.
D'Ann Bucy Alexander
Harrah resident D'Ann Bucy Alexander died Thursday in Stillwater. She was 56.
She was born Sept. 14, 1942, in Shawnee to George and Muriel Bucy.
She married Guy Wendell Alexander Jan. 2, 1961, in Shawnee.
She graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Guy Alexander, Harrah; children, Bryan Alexander, Mustang, Melissa Robe, Moore, and Gay Lynn Cravens, Harrah; seven grandchildren; and sister, Kay Kyker, Stillwater.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Kukendall officiating under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
