David Dean
Okemah resident David "Pete" Dean died Friday at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was 62.
Dean was born Nov. 12, 1936, in Yeager to Clyde David Dean and Mary Jane McCoy Dean. He graduated from Yeager High School in 1954 and received a bachelor of science degree from East Central University in 1959.
He also received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1961 and a master of business administration degree from Oklahoma City University in 1965.
He married Lyn Maddox on Jan. 23, 1959, in Holdenville. He was employed by Western Electric and General Electric as supervisor of industrial engineering. He moved to Okemah in 1968 and became general manager of Oktronic, the first Okie Industry. In 1975, he began his own business, Dean's Manufacturing, with his brother, Bobby Dean, and the late Bud Holmes. He was also active in his local ranching operation.
Survivors include his wife, Lyn Dean, of the home; son, David Dean, Okemah; son and daughter-in-law, Britt and Tracy Dean, Okemah; daughter and son-in-law, Paige and Randy Rutland, Okemah; daughter, Reagan Dean, Tulsa; his mother, Mary Jane Broaddus, Holdenville; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Sue Dean, Okemah; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nina and Bob Baxter, Holdenville; Shirley and Doug Place, Dallas, Texas; and sister, June Carter, Holdenville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Dean.
Graveside services
will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Dean Family Cemetery, three miles south of Okemah on 14th Street and one mile west on the north side of the road, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, with the Rev. Will Eads officiating.
Jimmy Ray Sales
Longtime Shawnee resident Jimmy Ray Sales died Thursday at a local nursing home. He was 66.
He was born Nov. 13, 1932, in Washington, Okla., to Willie Ray and Jewell (James) Sales.
He was a retired truck driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean conflict. Sales was a member of White Stone Baptist Church in Cromwell, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He lived in Shawnee most of his life.
Survivors include his brothers, Marvin Sales, Bronte, Texas, and Hubert A. Sales, Ada; sister, Vada Sehorn, Minnesota; aunts, Mildred Upton, Norman, and Betty Sales, Shawnee; a number of cousins; and special friends, Doyle Austin, Shawnee, and Dorothy Kniffin, Shawnee.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and several uncles.
Graveside services
will be 1 p.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery with Brothers Lewis Norvell and Ernie Brazel officiating under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
Jerry M. Dodson
Jerry M. Dodson of Shawnee died Sunday in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 87.
She was born April 29, 1912, in Tyler, Texas, to Forrest and Daisey Gibson. She attended Shawnee Public Schools and later worked as a realtor. She was a member of the Downey, Calif., Board of Realtors.
She married Andrew J. Dodson in Las Vegas, Nev., in 1954. She lived in Verden, Okla., for about 15 years before returning to Shawnee in 1991. She attended Liberty Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Andrew Dodson, and a brother, Forrest Gibson.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Blair of Shawnee and Phillis Hammons of Shawnee; one son-in-law, Ted Hammons of Shawnee; four sisters, Aretta Beard of Ft. Worth, Texas, Ethel Britt of Modesta, Calif., Dorothy Knoles of Shawnee and Daisy West of Shawnee; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. at Verden Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
Weldon Eugene Malone
Weldon Eugene Malone died Friday. He was 69.
Malone was born on Feb. 20, 1930, in Savoy, Texas, to Denvil and Liller Mae Malone.
He married Lorene Kettler on May 24, 1947, in Lubbock, Texas.
Malone worked as a concrete mason and was a longtime resident of the Asher area.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene Kettler of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Karen Malone, Amarillo, Texas, and Ronald and Carrie Malone, Asher; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Kenneth Roberts and Cheryl and Gordon Lewis, all of Weatherford, Texas, and Sue Griffin, Amarillo, Texas; two brothers, Roy Malone, Slaton, Texas, and Kenneth Malone, Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Francis Wilkins, Las Cruces, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held 2 p.m. Monday at the Assembly of God Church in Asher with the Rev. Clyde Quick officiating.
Burial followed in the Kettler Family Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa.
Beatrice Keaton Cornelius
Beatrice Keaton Cornelius died Saturday in an Okmulgee hospital. She was 93.
Mrs. Cornelius was born July 7, 1906, in Weleetka, Indian Territory, the daughter of John D. and Bertha (Ryan) Keaton.
She grew up in the Muskogee area and married William Seay Cornelius on Sept. 1, 1937, in Muskogee.
She was in the automobile business in Muskogee and in St. Louis, Mo., before moving to Okemah in 1980.
Mrs. Cornelius was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Okfuskee County Historical Society, the Five Civilized Tribes Museum and served as treasurer for the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was on the Chairman's Honor Roll for the Republican National Committee and received the Disabled American Veterans Bronze Leadership Award for Service.
Mrs. Cornelius also volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Muskogee and her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Seay Cornelius; her parents, John and Bertha Keaton; and two brothers, Jay D. Keaton and John Ryan Keaton.
Survivors include a brother, William C. Keaton, Marble Falls, Texas; two sisters, Dorothy Littrell, Okemah, and Maureen Dennehy Haggin, El Paso, Texas; a niece, Debra Dennehy Roof, El Paso, Texas; two nephews, Samuel Wilson, Waurika, and Patrick C. Dennehy, Ruidoso, N.M.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services
will be held 10 a.m. today at Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee with the Rev. Don Lehman officiating.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Okemah.
Betty Wooten
Shawnee resident Betty Wooten died Monday at her home. She was 55.
Wooten was born June 4, 1944, in Oklahoma City, the daughter of Elton and Velma Wooten.
She attended Oklahoma State University and worked in the land department at Mobil in Denver, Colo.
Wooten was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Wooten.
Survivors include her father, Elton Wooten, Shawnee; an aunt, Ruth Wooten, Edmond; an uncle, Charles Fidler, Konawa; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul Calmes officiating.
Burial will be held in Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel of Shawnee.
Rosalie L. Dickinson
Longtime Shawnee resident Rosalie L. Dickinson died Sunday at her home. She was 84.
Mrs. Dickinson was born on July 17, 1915, in McLoud to John Joseph and Anna J. (Ebers) Scheidt.
She married Elmer Dickinson on Aug. 1, 1944, in Shawnee.
Mrs. Dickinson was a homemaker and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, St. Gregory's Oblates, St. Benedict Golden Hearts and a past president of St. Benedict Altar Society and the FFA Mothers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Dickinson; her parents, John and Anna Scheidt; a brother, George Scheidt; a son, John Patrick Dickinson; and two grandchildren, Danny Dickinson and John Patrick Dickinson Jr.
Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Michael and Laury Dickinson, Meeker, Timmy Dickinson and JoAnn Bryan, Shawnee, Carl and Andrea Dickinson, Baltimore, Md., and Mark and Rhonda Dickinson, Shawnee; a daughter, Ann Dickinson, Shawnee; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Dickinson, Mount Vernon, Md.; 10 grandchildren, Christina Barry, Jay Dickinson, Andrew Dickinson, Jason Dickinson, Kevin Dickinson all of Shawnee, Stacy Root of Denver, Colo., Erik Dickinson of San Antonio, Texas, Jimmy Dickinson and Lance Dickinson both of Mt. Vrenon, Mo., and Wesley Dickinson of Oklahoma City; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee, St. Benedict Altar Society or St. Gregory's University.
A prayer vigil will be 7 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating.
Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
