W.L. Hopkins
W.L. "Bill" Hopkins of Shawnee died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was 85.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with Larry Goins officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
W.L. "Bill" Hopkins was born Jan. 3, 1913, in Elijah, Ga. He married Dorothy Autrey on Feb. 10, 1943, in Mangum. He had served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa. He was owner of a heavy equipment company in Ada.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hopkins, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Jerry and Jim Herron, Altus; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Timothy and Jagruti Herron, Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Tom Stanish, Kansas City, Kan.; brother-in-law, B.C. Autrey and family, Shawnee; sister-in-law, Ruth Autrey and family, Shawnee, and many other relatives.
Ruben Davis Hill
Seminole resident Ruben Davis Hill died Tuesday at a Seminole nursing home at the age of 86.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Seminole with the Rev. Larry Chesser officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Hill was born Sept. 22, 1911, in Bowie, Texas, to Robert "Shorty" and Katie (Warren) Hill. He moved to Seminole from Deer Park, Texas, 11 years ago. He also lived in Ada in 1982 and Wolf in 1987.
He married Lou Hill July 5, 1961, in Alvin, Texas, and retired from the City of Pasadena, Texas, in the early 1980s. Hill served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 and was a member of the Gleaners Holiness Church in Wewoka.
Survivors include a son, Ray Hill of Wolf; a daughter, Gloria Ann Herrera of Campo, Calif.; a brother, J.W. Hill of Pasadena, Texas; four sisters, La Hella Shorter of Lawton, Tressie Wright of Duncan, La Vesta Roberts of Russellville, Ark., Opal Ziegler of Pasadena, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on June 11, 1997; and three brothers.
Charles Evert Mann
Longtime Okfuskee County resident Charles Evert Mann of Norman died Wednesday at the age of 64.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Castle Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Waller officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.
Charles Evert Mann was born in Oklahoma on July 13, 1933, the son of Joseph Glen Mann and Rosie Ellen McGuire Mann. He served in the U.S. Army at White Sands, N.M., when the first rockets were tested as a prelude to putting the first American in space. He also worked at a steel foundry and was a security guard.
He was a member of Castle Baptist Church and had lived in Okfuskee County for many years before moving to Cleveland County.
Surviving are his brother, Joseph Wayne Mann, Tulsa; four sisters, Katie Burr, Boynton; Bertie Driskell, Sand Springs; Ruth Stafford, Okemah; Louise Thornton, Council Hill, and many other relatives.
His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
John R. Rooker
John R. Rooker, 73, died Monday in Houston, Texas.
He was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Dale to John R., Sr., and Audrey Rooker. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was employed by the federal government at Robins Air Force Base, Ga. He was a member of Alkanon, the Antique Car Club and the Green Acres Baptist Church, Warner Robins, Ga.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Rooker of the home; daughter, Joy Raley, Shawnee; two sons, Mark Rooker, Nicholson, Ga., and Randall Rooker, Warner Robins, Ga.; two sisters, Virginia Craig, Greenwood, Ark., and Patricia Molsbee, Dale; four brothers, Mike Rooker and Pete Rooker, both of Dale; Sam Rooker, New Orleans, La.; and Tom Rooker, Checotah; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Green Acres Baptist Church, Warner Robins, Ga., with the Rev. Charlie Orr and the Rev. Kevin Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Parkway Memorial Garderns, Warner Robins, Ga.
Arrangements are under the direction of McCullough Funeral Home, Warner Robins, Ga.
Inez Holland
Inez Holland, 88, Tecumseh, died Tuesday in Shawnee.
She was born Oct. 9, 1909, in Brookville, Kan., to William Sidney and Cora Louella (Richards) Sweaney. She attended school in Mount Delonia and lived in Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas before moving to Oklahoma in 1923. She married W.M. "Skeet" Holland on Sept. 21, 1927, in Tecumseh. She had been the cook at several area restaurants and retired from federal civil service, Tinker Air Force Base, in 1976. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tecumseh; American Association of Retired Persons; National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and the Rebekah Lodge, Tecumseh. In 1994, she was the Tecumseh Frontier Days Sweetheart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant daughter, Ruby Holland, son, Marion Holland, one sister and two brothers.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Holland, Bethel Acres; Don Holland, Tecumseh; and Donna Miles, Del City; a daughter-in-law, Linda Holland, Edmond; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous step great-grandchildren; and friend, Frances Patterson.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh. The Rev. W.F. Crow and the Rev. David Nolen, First Baptist Church, Tecumseh, will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill.
Glendon D. Adams
Retired insurance agent Glendon D. Adams, Tecumseh, died Wednesday at the age of 72.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Tecumseh with the Rev. Mack Peercy officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Holdenville under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.
Adams was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Todd County, Ky., to Damen and Edna (Lathaham) Adams. He was reared in Chicago, Ill., and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving 1943 to 1946 in Asia and the South Pacific.
Adams married Joyce Braly on Feb. 29, 1952, in Waukegan, Ill.
In 1980, he moved to Shawnee and had lived in Tecumseh since 1989. He was a welder for more than 40 years and worked for Bow Pipe Line in Shawnee in 1980.
In 1983, he became an insurance representative for Mutual of Omaha in the Shawnee area and became the leading sales representative in Shawnee until his retirement in 1989.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Tecumseh.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Adams of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Marie and Bill LeBarre of Harrah, Kathryn Ann and Mark Gaylord of Bloomington, Minn.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steven Adams of Carpentersville, Ill., Michael John and Diane Adams of Okmulgee, Paul Glen and Shelly Adams of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
John J. Gesioroski
McLoud resident John J. Gesioroski died Wednesday at his home. He was 63.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Minneha Freewill Baptist Church in McLoud. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service in Harrah.
Memorials may be made to the Alliance Hospice of Edmond.
Gesioroski was born Oct. 27, 1934, in Harrah, to John and Caroline Czercyk Gesioroski. He was reared in Harrah and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a retired private contractor supervisor in equipment maintenance at Tinker Air Force Base and was a member of the Minneha Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; a stepson, Robert Billins of Shawnee; a stepdaughter, Carol Castronova of McLoud; three sisters, Helen Link of Midwest City, Adeline Jorski of Harrah and Janie Black of Panama City, Fla.
Kenneth Ray Silas
Konawa resident Kenneth Ray Silas died Wednesday in Konawa at the age of 65.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Matthew Brown, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home in Konawa. Rosary service will be 7:30 p.m. today.
Silas was born April 4, 1933, in St. Louis, to Hubert "Pete" and Ines Marle Silas. He married Matilda Lehman on Dec. 31, 1966, in Midland, Texas. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a backhoe operator and oil field worker.
Survivors include his wife, Matilda Silas of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Nick and Tammy Silas, Ronnie and Diane Silas, all of Maud, Sam and Martine Silas of Konawa; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Darryl and Ladonna Kuerstersteffen of Konawa, Michael and Vicki Kuerstersteffen of Vero Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Tammie and Brad Schultz of Prague, Susie and Ted Huggins of Konawa; a stepdaughter and spouse, JoAnn and Mickey Johnson of Konawa; 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ines Brinlee and Pete Silas; a sister, Connie Wood.
Oney Marie Lackey
Shawnee homemaker Oney Marie Lackey died Wednesday at her home. She was 90.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ellis Gregg officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lackey was born Dec. 15, 1907, in Belmont, Okla., to Lawrence and Lottie (Goode) Edney. She attended school in Pottawatomie County and married Fred Nelson Lackey on July 17, 1937, in Shawnee.
She lived in Santa Anna, Calif., for 22 years before moving back to Shawnee in 1973. While in California, she taught Sunday school. Mrs. Lackey was a member of the Hart Street Full Gospel Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Sharel Lackey of Bakersfield, Calif.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Neva Dimmick; her husband of 56 years, Fred Lackey; sisters, Clara Lackey, Ardeth Weaver, Dortha Davis; a brother, Earl Edney.
