David Gene Taylor II
Shawnee resident David Gene Taylor II died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was 22.
He was born March 8, 1976, in Oklahoma City, the son of David Gene and Dana Lee (Walling) Taylor. He had lived in Shawnee most of his life and attended Shawnee High School, where he was on the wrestling team.
He was Protestant. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard, Company D 1/180 Specialist in small arms and supply section, 45th Division, and was employed by Central Plastics.
Preceding him in death were his grandfather, Jo Gene Taylor, and his grandmother, Ann Walling.
Surviving are his fiancee, Mistie Starkey, Shawnee; parents, David Gene and Dana Lee Taylor, Shawnee; brother, Darth Taylor, Oklahoma City; sister, Shannon Smith, California; grandmother, Virgie Taylor, Shawnee; grandfather, John B. Walling, Wichita, Kan., and many other relatives including an aunt and uncle, Joann and Don Blassingame, Shawnee.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Ollie Knoll
Konawa resident Ollie Knoll died Wednesday at Ada. She was 80.
She was born Dec. 1, 1917, in Konawa to Maude L. Hensley and Ollie Rice Hensley. She had worked as a waitress and nursing home helper and was a member of the Konawa Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by three sisters, Jackie Rounsaville, Shawnee; Ellie Finch, Konawa; Clara Adams, Marietta, Texas, and many other relatives.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Konawa Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Richard Copple officiating. Burial will be at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa.
Velma Mathis
Velma Mathis, 94, Wapanuoka, died Monday in Coalgate.
She was born in Konawa to Rhoda (Sorrels) and James Palmer. She married James W. Mathis in Konawa on May 28, 1919.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Molly Mathis and Vaniva Palmer, and four brothers, Webster Palmer, Davis Palmer, Frank Palmer, and Nevin Palmer.
Survivors include daughter, Estelle Peters; sisters, Anna Lee Pixley, Tulsa; Vera Mullen, Wolf; and Denver Harden, Grants Pass, Ore.; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Graveside services
will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Vamoosa Cemetery, with the Rev. Winston Curtis officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Pickard Stratford Funeral Chapel, Konawa.
Zula A. Morgan
Zula A. Morgan, Shawnee, died Monday at a local nursing home.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. Further arrangements will be announced.
Ina Mae Newby
Ina Mae Newby, 68, Newalla, died Tuesday in Midwest City.
She was born in Harrah on May 28, 1930, to Marvin and Myrtle Osborne Abshire.
She was a former basketball player with the American Redheads, a professional basketball team, and was a retired civil servant from Tinker Air Force Base.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; son, Mike, Newalla; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Monte Chancellor, Newalla; brother, Dale Abshire, Tecumseh; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Asa Smith Funeral Chapel, Harrah. Burial will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, Newalla.
Joe D. Collier
Joe D. Collier, 64, Shawnee, died Monday at his residence.
He was born April 20, 1934, in Wanette to H.P. and Audrey Collier. He married Myrna Mitchell in Manila, Utah.
He was a carpenter for United Builders and B&B Construction Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Marvin and Ivy Collier, Stillwater; Billy and Sheila Collier, Shawnee; and David Collier, Seoul, South Korea; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and James Boise, Shawnee; nine grandchildren; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Ernie Redford, Tampa, Fla., and Wilma and Hubert Mead, Moore.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, with Marvin Collier officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rosemary Clevenger
Rosemary Clevenger died May 14 in Oklahoma City at the age of 75.
She was born Dec. 3, 1922, in California, the daughter of William Homer Lane and Minta (Gravitt) Lane Kienzle. She was a resident of Oklahoma City and a member of Pennsylvania Avenue Christian Church. She was a retired medical laboratory technician.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Howell, Sumner, Wash.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Prague Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.
Velma Vivian Garrison
Longtime Seminole resident Velma Vivian Garrison died Tuesday in a Seminole hospital. She was 93.
She was born April 11, 1905, in Seminole County, Indian Territory, the daughter of Alva Willis Criswell and Otha (Chastain) Criswell. She married Birtchell Garrison at Okemah on Nov. 29, 1926.
She was a homemaker and had received her teaching certificate from East Central University. She was a member of Little Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter, Joy Drake, Seminole; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Birtchell Garrison, in 1996, her parents and two brothers.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Little Cemetery with Doe McRay officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Violet Jane Chitwood
Shawnee resident Violet Jane Chitwood, 82, died Wednesday.
Graveside services
will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cashion Cemetery in Cashion with the Rev. Rick Blackwell officiating. Burial will be at Cashion Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.
Mrs. Chitwood was born Nov. 6, 1915, near Chandler to William and Pearl (Cole) Farrow. She married L.L. "Bus" Chitwood on Nov. 23, 1935 in Seward.
She lived in Guthrie most of her life and worked in retail sales. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Guthrie.
Survivors include two sisters, Jerrie Cox and Imagene Seaba, both of Chandler; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a stepson, two brothers and her husband.
Chester Rice
Chester "Arky" Rice, Odessa, Texas, died Tuesday at the age of 90.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Webb officiating. Burial will be at Denver City Memorial Park, Denver City, Texas, under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home, Denver City.
Rice was born Jan. 8, 1908 in Joy, Texas. He married Flora M. Spears on July 20, 1929, in Devol.
He moved Denver City in 1949 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was employed by Amoco Oil.
Survivors include his wife, Flora; two sons, Sylvester Rice, Lubbock, Texas, and Ralph W. Rice, Odessa, Texas; a daughter, Sunny Sue Manning, Josephine, Texas; a brother, John C. Rice, Shawnee; a sister, Clara Germany, Hurst, Texas; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
