Melinda Mitchell
Seminole resident Melinda Mitchell died Friday at a local hospital. She was 71.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hitchitee United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Harjo officiating. Burial will be in Hitchitee Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Wake services will be 6 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home, 4 p.m. Monday at New Hope Church, Cromwell, and 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hitchitee Church.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Seminole to Samchoee Alexander and Tocee Ripley. She married Johnny Mitchell in 1963 in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Mitchell lived in Seminole all her life and was a member of New Hope Church near Cromwell.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny C. Mitchell, of the home; son, John Larney Jr., Iola, Kan.; daughters, Linda K. Bear, Earlsboro; Racheal M. Bear, Shawnee; Johnnie M. Alford, Earlsboro; Sally S. Fixico and Idalena Ataddletty, both of Seminole; brother, Andrew Alexander, Shawnee; sister, Cecila Wolf, Seminole; 29 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Martha Wolf.
Arthur Vernon Sager
Shawnee resident Arthur Vernon Sager died Thursday at a local nursing home. He was 94.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Sager was born Oct. 10, 1903, in Pawnee County, Okla., to Jerry B. and Ella Love Sager. He married Vada Flanagan on Oct. 10, 1925, in Depew, Okla.
Sager graduated from Drumright High School. He moved to Shawnee in 1943. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a volunteer for Project Heart.
Sager was employed by Gulf Oil Co. and later owned and operated a trucking business in Shawnee. He retired from Redco Company, Seminole.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Vic Adams, Shawnee; Mary and Bob Mendez, Oklahoma City; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Becky Sager, Sugarland, Texas; Vernon and Marie Sager, Abilene, Texas; daughter-in-law, Doris Sager, Shawnee; sister, Rachal Sager Ballou, Shawnee; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife Vada Flanagan Sager; son, Jack Sager; brother, Henry Sager; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Opal D. Shelton
Former Shawnee resident Opal D. Shelton died Wednesday at an Olympia, Wash., nursing home. She was 90.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Bill Matthews officiating, assisted by Phil Thompson. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.
Mrs. Shelton was born July 15, 1908, in Stratford, to Lafayette and Octavia (Youngs) Menser. She married George R. Shelton on July 16, 1938, in Shawnee, and was the youngest of 18 children.
She and her husband lived in and around the Shawnee area until 1941, when they moved to California. They lived in the bay area until they retired in 1971, when they returned to Shawnee and lived here for 10 years. They moved to Olympia, Wash., in 1981, and lived between Shawnee and Olympia the past 17 years.
Mrs. Shelton was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee and attended the Neighborhood Christian Center in Tumwater, Wash.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Shelton of Port Orchard, Wash., Ronald Shelton of Olympia, Wash.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991.
Ola Mae Orr
Chandler resident Ola Mae Orr, 87, died Friday in Oklahoma City. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Chandler, with the Rev. Rick Blackwell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.
Mrs. Orr was born Feb. 25, 1911, in Chandler to William and Myrtle (Renfrow) Miller. She married Matthew Orr on June 4, 1959 in Chandler.
Mrs. Orr was a member of the First Baptist Church, Chandler.
Survivors include her husband, Matthew Orr, of the home; sister, Hazel Cowan, Stigler; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
Curtis Van French
Former Tecumseh resident Curtis Van French died Friday in McAlester. He was 46.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with Bill Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.
French was born Jan. 25, 1952, in Shawnee to Van and Helen (Aday) French.
French was a 1970 graduate of Tecumseh High School. He was employed at as an oil field contract pumper. He moved to McAlester in 1981.
Survivors include his wife, Margie French, McAlester; father, Van French, McAlester; mother, Helen French, Tecumseh; stepdaughter, Scarlett Wall, Ada; sister, Rhonda Holbert, Tecumseh; sister and brother-in-law, Tracy and Glen Villines, Tecumseh; brother, Wade French, Stillwater; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Elva Arminda Hurst
Lifelong Warwick resident Elva Arminda Hurst died Friday in Meeker at the age of 91.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Chandler with the Rev. A.J. Frank Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Hurst was born July 30, 1907, in Luther, to Samuel Harve and Rose Lela (Williams) Ulrich. She married Ray W. Hurst on Oct. 24, 1923, in Chandler.
She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Don Hurst of Shawnee, Bobby Hurst of Warwick; three daughters, Peggy Hopkins of Chandler, Bonnie Rattray of Tulsa, Marie Kemble of Slidell, La.; a sister, Rose Mahaney of Shreveport, La.; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1972; two sons, Ray "R.J." Hurst, Billy Gene Hurst; four brothers and three sisters.
Estle N. Winters
Shawnee resident Estle N. Winters died Thursday at his residence. He was 77.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Clewell officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.
Winters was born Aug. 8, 1920, in Nowata to Ova Estle and Clara Margaret Winters. He married Ruth Swanson on Feb. 14, 1976, in Spencer.
Winters served in the U.S. Navy Air Corp. and retired after 33 years of service at Tinker Air Force Base. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and worked as a volunteer for Shawnee RSVP.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Robert K. and Cheryl Winters, Midwest City; stepchildren and spouses, Nora and Ron Inman, Tecumseh; James Crow Jr., Shawnee; John and Sue Crow, Yukon; Deborah and Robert Pearce, Shawnee; sister, Alma Griffith, Shawnee; two grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Julia Duncan; half brothers, Frank, Griffith, Marion and Earl Winters; half sisters, Euia Lupfer and Violet Southern.

Ethel L. Foster Qualls
Shawnee resident Ethel L. Foster Qualls died Saturday at a local nursing home. She was 88.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Ronny Qualls officiating.
Mrs. Qualls was born Nov. 27, 1909, in Parks, Ark., to Dr. O.D. and Virginia Foster. She married Emil Otis Qualls on Dec. 11, 1926, in Wister, Okla.
Mrs. Qualls was an Avon representative for 14 years and a precinct voting inspector for 18 years. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club and was a Baptist.
Survivors include her son, David Qualls, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Billie Qualls, McKinney, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Melba and John Lloyd, Norman; Kathy and Larry Kyser, Norman; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Sept. 14, 1972; three brothers and four sisters.
