Mildred Fischer Petersen
Mildred Fischer Petersen died Friday at her Shawnee residence. She was 77.
She was born northwest of Shawnee on May 26, 1921, the daughter of Otha and Louisa Broza Fischer.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Earnest Fischer, Jim Fischer, Joe Fischer and Eddie Fischer, and three sisters, Ella, Helen Hull and Emma Lee Stone.
Survivors include her husband, George T. Petersen Jr. of the home; son, George T. Petersen III; daughters, Betty Jean Cockrell and Lois Marie Lenart; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Mayme Fischer Markwell, and many other relatives.
At Mrs. Petersen's request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Chapel.
Cora Elizabeth Hightower
Konawa resident Cora Elizabeth Hightower died Sunday at Ada at the age of 81.
She was born Sept. 11, 1917, in Lindsay, Okla., to Ollie and Gordon Lee Southern. She married James Monroe Hightower at Buckeye, Ariz., in 1945 and was a homemaker.
She had lived in Konawa for at least 54 years and was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband in 1968 and one son, Woodrow Hightower in 1980.
Surviving are her seven daughters and their spouses, Alice and Arlton Branscum, Annie and Clarence Smith, Ruby Taylor, Jo Hightower, Betty and Willis Deatherage, Mae Wallace and Dorothy and Leon Kapraun; two sons, James Hightower and Junior Hightower; stepson, Buddy Hightower; 33 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Konawa with the Rev. Bob Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Violet Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa.
Verda J. Casey
Longtime area resident Verda J. Casey died Saturday in a local nursing home. She was 81.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. DuWayne Colvin officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
She was born Oct. 13, 1917, in Indiahoma, Okla., the daughter of J.G. Ward and Clara (Burnett) Ward. She had lived in Shawnee most of her life and graduated from Bethel High School.
She married Leon Casey in Sulphur on Feb. 5, 1948, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Wallace Avenue Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 12 years. She had been a member of the Firefighters Union Ladies' Auxiliary and was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Virgil Ward and Vernon Ward.
Surviving are her husband, Leon Casey, Shawnee; daughters and son-in-law, Sharon Ann Autrey, Shawnee, Janet Kay and John Rifenberry, Newalla; four grandchildren; one brother, J.M. Ward, Shawnee, and many other relatives.
Claud J. Dockrey
Claud J. Dockrey died Saturday at his Shawnee home at the age of 70.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Fairview Mausoleum under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. LeRoy Kerbo will officiate. The casket will remain open at the chapel until 1 p.m. and will not be opened afterward.
Claud J. Dockrey was born Oct. 26, 1928, at Shawnee to Claude J. and Willie Francis Dockrey. He graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University and The University of Oklahoma. He retired as Chief Boatswain's Mate First Class from the U.S. Merchant Marine.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, John Dockrey.
Surviving are his wife, Bethea Dockrey of the home; six children and their spouses, Claud J. Dockrey III, Sherill and Jerry Ball, Tecumseh, Barbara and Larry McLaughlin, Shawnee, Marilyn Dockrey, Dallas, Texas, Amy Dockrey, Missoula, Mont., and Mamie Dockrey, Oklahoma City, and sister, Deloris Dockrey, Shawnee.
Mary Rogers
Mary Rogers, 74, Shawnee, died Thursday in a local hospital.
She was born June 18, 1923, in Cavanes, Texas, to Lawson and Vera (Mann) Wood. She married Ruben Redding in 1950 in Shawnee, and, after his death in 1967, married James Robert Rogers on April 16, 1976, in Tecumseh. She worked as a housekeeper at Oklahoma Baptist University and was a member of the Tecumseh Church of Christ. Rogers preceded her in death in 1992.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ina and Robert Rogers; Mary (Fran) and Jack Frost; and Earlene (Candy) McGowen; one brother, Ted (Jack) Wood; one sister, Georgia Lane; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Dale Cemetery, with Doyle Loveland officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Memorial Park.
Ronnie Blakley
Former Shawnee resident Ronnie Blakley, 46, Norman, died Thursday.
He was born July 11, 1951, in Britton to John Riley and Ellen (Wingo) Blakley. He married Belle Roberts on Sept. 14, 1973, in Hobbs, N.M. He was a buyer for Allen Bradley and lived in Shawnee for 20 years before moving to Norman in 1994.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; son, Jesse Blakley, Norman; daughter, Crissy Blakley, Norman; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Brandon Dearman, Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Brandon and Tyler Dearman; sisters, Louise Belcher, Ariz., and Lorene Hunter, Oklahoma City; three brothers, Billy Scroggins, Amarillo, Texas; Ray Scroggins, Elk City, and Eugene Scroggins, Lumberton, Texas; mother Ellen Blakley, Kingman, Ariz.; and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, three brothers, and one sister.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Leroy Kerbo officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Nelson C. Kymes
Former Stroud resident Nelson C. Kymes, 81, died Friday in Tulsa.
He was born on March 15, 1917, in Ada to Arthur C. and Maggie L. (Reich) Kymes. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and married Dorothy Wilson in Okemah on July 10, 1953. He worked in natural gas operations until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one brother, and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Nelson Kymes, Catoosa, and Kenneth Nelson, Ada; daughter, Patty Wilson, Odessa, Texas; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Stroud Cemetery, with Charles Kymes officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Stroud.
Marvin Lee Graham
Marvin Lee Graham, 69, Shawnee, died Friday.
He was born April 7, 1929, in Blanchard to John William and Verna (Fussel) Graham. He attended Blanchard schools but lived in Oregon most of his life, returning to Oklahoma in April 1998. He worked as a car salesman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
He is survived by one daughter, Pam Blair, Klamath Falls, Ore.; one son, Daryl Lee, Beggs of Oklahoma; five sisters, Juanita Woods and Norma Graham, both of Shawnee; Robert Everett and Betty Anderson, both of Tulsa; and Cora Lee Rose, Durant; two brothers, Lee Graham, Medford, Ore., and Dennis Graham, Tulsa; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Pastor Will Bentley officiating. Burial will be in Ray Cemetery.
Evelyn Elva (Gordon) Dixon
Evelyn Elva (Gordon) Dixon, 91, former Wewoka resident, died Saturday in Sherman, Texas.
She was born Jan. 23, 1907, in Raton, N.M., to James Farell and Mattie (McClerg) Gordon. She married Teddie Lee Dixon in Tulsa in September 1942. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and a granddaughter, Karen Engler, in 1986.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Bess and Marvin Harless, Dallas, Texas; brother, Lenord Gordon, Tulsa; sister, Vera Greenfield, Hasty, Colo.; grandson, Marvin Harless, Jr., London, England; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb and Joshua Engler, both of Austin, Texas, and Amanda Harless, Plano, Texas.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Dianna Jean (Begley) Phillips
Dianna Jean (Begley) Phillips, 53, Seminole, died Saturday at home.
She was born on Feb. 20, 1945, in Seminole to James Begley and Dolphie Hyatt. She married Richard Phillips on April 7, 1995, in Wewoka. She was a home care nursing aide and a member of the Hilltop Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Dolphie and Earl Rounsivill; her husband of the home; son, Rickey Bourdon, Modesto, Calif.; daughter, Renee Nelson, Modesto, Calif.; brothers, Sonny Begley, Vacaville, Calif., and Jack Begley, Seminole; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Little Cemetery, with Steve Cline officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
