Ann Flatt Hurst
Eugene D. Hurst
Ann Flatt Hurst, 62, and Eugene D. Hurst, 71, of Okemah died Monday following an automobile accident east of Harrah.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery, Okemah, with the Rev. Carl Clay officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.
Elizabeth Ann Flatt was born Nov. 14, 1935, at Ada to Elton Buck Flatt and Stella Juanita (Millican) Flatt. She was a floral designer. She married Eugene Hurst and they had lived in Okemah since 1986.
Eugene D. "Chief" Hurst was born Oct. 22, 1926, at Okemah, the son of Eugene Moore Hurst and Florence (Sharp) Hurst. He served overseas in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and retired from Conoco Oil Company after 38 years.
They are survived by two sons, Tracy Hurst, Okemah; Jeff Hurst, Sapulpa; one daughter, Jackie Lynn McClure, Victoria, Texas; his sister, Betty Marie Bach, Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren, and his aunt, Gertrude Kennedy, Okemah.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society, SPCA or PAWS.
Eula McKiddy Smith
Eula McKiddy Smith died Sunday in a Norman hospital at the age of 69.
She was born May 10, 1928, northeast of Lexington to Evert and Bernice McKiddy. She attended school at Science Hill and Noble.
She was baptized in 1951 and was a member of the Church of Christ in Noble. She married C.C. "Doc" Smith on July 5, 1949, in Gainesville, Texas, and was a homemaker. They lived east of Noble. She had been a member of Order of the Eastern Star chapter 67 since 1968.
She was preceded in death by her father, Evert McKiddy, and her brother, Doyle McKiddy.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, C.C. "Doc" Smith, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Cheri Smith, Noble; Ricci and Pam Smith, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Conna and Darrell Nemecek, Ada; her mother, Bernice McKiddy, Noble; sister, Zelma Bratcher, Noble; six grandchildren, Aimee and Heather Nemecek, Ada; Shelby and Jordon Smith, Noble; Cortney and Jarod Smith, Shawnee, and many other relatives.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Noble Church of Christ with Bill Mayes and Dennis Fulks officiating. Burial will be at Red Oak Cemetery, east of Noble, under the direction of Memorial Chapel, Noble.
Leroy F. Vandegrift Jr.
Former Shawnee resident Leroy F. Vandegrift Jr. of Waco, Texas, died Tuesday in Austin, Texas. He was 65.
He was born July 25, 1932, in Shawnee to Leroy F. and Thelma M. (Glenn) Vandegrift. He married Carol Hoover.
Vandegrift was on active duty with the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1979 and served more than four years in southeast Asia. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with two clusters, Air Medal with six clusters, Commendation Medal with cluster, and other awards. He retired at the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He was a tax preparer enrolled to practice before the IRS and worked for H&R Block for 15 years.
He was past director of the Waco Founder Lions Club and a member of the Retired Officers Association, Air Force Association, Disabled American Veterans, Unifromed Services Disabled Retirees, the National Association of Enrolled Agents and Texas Enrolled Agents.
Surviving are his son, Steve Vandegrift, Ada; daughter, Deborah Littles, Austin, Texas; brothers, Jerry Vandegrift, Naples, Fla.; Bill Vandegrift, Spring, Texas, and three grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Carol Hoover Vandegrift.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
Alice G. Hester
Former area resident Alice G. Hester died Tuesday in Licking, Mo. She was 94.
She was born Jan. 4, 1904, in Sulphur, Indian Territory, the daughter of David W. Newby and Ellen J. Hines Newby. She married Ernest Hester at Duncan in August 1923 and they had two daughters. They farmed and, during World War II, Mrs. Hester worked in the aircraft industry.
When she retired, she lived in Chandler until moving to Raymondville, Mo., in 1986. She had lived in a Licking, Mo., nursing home sice February 1997.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, her husband and one great-grandson.
Surviving are her daughters, Oma Faye Knoch, Raymondville, Mo.; Wanda Geraldine Hester Ragan, Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives.
Viewing will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and until noon Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at New Hope Cemetery, Meeker, with Wesley Wallace officiating.
Ronald Joe Robinson
Ronald Joe Robinson, 57, of Little died Tuesday at his home. Services are pending with Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Rick Kubicek
Services for Rick Kubicek, 50, of Shawnee, who died Sunday in an Oklahoma City hospital, have been changed to 2:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Paul Calmes will officiate. Burial will be in Garden Grove Cemetery under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Louise Seckel
Lifelong Tecumseh resident Louise Seckel died Thursday in Shawnee at the age of 77.
Services will be noon today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Tony Peak and the Rev. W.F. Crow officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.
The casket will remain open until 11 a.m. today and not be re-opened after the service.
Mrs. Seckel was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Maud, and attended Pleasant Valley Schools. She married Milton Seckel in May 1942 in Macomb and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh.
She worked as a clerk for C.R. Anthony's, Pratt Foods, Stones and A Country Place Restaurant.
Survivors include her husband, Milton Seckel of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and David Willis of Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Kelly Seckel of Shawnee; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Anna Lee and Dick Motley of Tecumseh, Julia Mae Beal of Moore; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and several other relatives and friends.
Victor L. Wallace
Shawnee resident Victor L. Wallace died Thursday at a local nursing home. He was 89.
No services are planned. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
Wallace was born July 8, 1908, in Carter County, to Sam Houston and Mattie Gourley Wallace. He was reared in Ringling, where he graduated from high school. He also graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University. He had lived in Shawnee since the last 1930s.
He was married to Juanita Webb for 63 years and was a regional manager for AMPCO Pittsburg Corporation. Wallace was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Oklahoma Baptist University Sports Hall of Fame.
Survivors include two sons, Victor L. Wallace of Denver, Colo., and John Wallace of Garland, Texas; a brother, Chester Wallace of Wichita Falls, Texas; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Juanita, on Oct. 12, 1997; and several other family members.
Jarrold Maurice Maytubby Sr.
Jarrold Maurice Maytubby Sr. of Shawnee died Saturday in a local hospital. He was 23.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Evangelistic Center with the Rev. Wilbert L. Tripplett officiating. Burial will be at Clearview Cemetery, Ardmore, under the direction of Temple and Son Funeral Home of Oklahoma City.
He was born Jan. 25, 1975, in Hugo to Mary Ann and Willie Drennon.
He is survived by his mother and special friend, Ann Smith and Charles Breath, Shawnee; father, Willie Drennon, Greenville, Texas; stepfather, Tony Smith, Austin, Texas; adopted father, Bruce Maytubby, Del City; daughter, Brittney Watson, Shawnee; sons, Matthew Geionety, Jarrold Maurice Maytubby Jr., both of Shawnee; brothers, Joseph Maytubby, Andrew Smith, LaDon Smith, all of Shawnee; sisters, Jackie Maytubby, Valerie Maytubby, Marsha Talton, Pamela Smith, Claudia Smith, Cheleah Mustin, Chevaila Mustin, all of Shawnee; Dee Dee Drennon, Naomi Drennon, both of Ardmore; special friends, ReBecca Wilbur, Shawnee; Ben Booze, Shawnee; grandmothers, Darlean Rankin, Margret Maytubby, both of Ardmore, and many others.
William Doyle Harrison
Former school superintendent William Doyle Harrison of Shawnee died Sunday in a local hospital. He was 78.
He was born March 5, 1920, in Dougherty to John Thomas and Mamie Marie Cathcart Harrison. He attended Ardmore High School, East Central, University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.
He married Rita C. Carrigan on May 11, 1943, in Auburn, Wash. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from Jan. 8, 1942, to Nov. 17, 1945.
Harrison came to Oklahoma in 1944, obtained a master's degree in administration from OU and was superintendent of schools for 25 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ, American Legion and BPOE.
Survivors include his daughter, Carol Ann Mize, Seminole; grandchildren, Rita Mize, Seminole; Jeff Mize, Euless, Texas, a great-granddaughter and many other relatives.
Preceding him in death were his parents; an aunt and uncle who raised him, the J.B. Wrights; brother, Thomas J. Harrison, and his wife, Rita Carrigan Harrison.
Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Chapel of Resthaven Memorial Park. The Rev. Carol Walker will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
