ALBERT LEON BALLENGER
Albert Leon Ballenger, 78, a resident of Okmulgee, died on Friday, May 24, 2002 in Okmulgee.
He was born on September 22, 1923 in Bearden, Oklahoma to Charles and Atlas (Curtis) Ballenger. Mr. Ballenger was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII. He retired a boiler maker in 1981.
Mr. Ballenger was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Dean Ballenger.
Survivors include one brother, Leonard Ballenger and wife Norma of Okmulgee; one sister, Alice Cale and husband Irwin of Tulsa.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kelley Chapel with Rev. Jack Vance officiating. Burial will be in the Morse Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
Pallbearers will be George, Roger, Roy, Ricky, Austin and Clay Ballenger.
JIMMY C. MCNAC
Jimmy C. McNac, 39, of Morris, died Friday, March 30, at his home. He was born on December 4, 1961 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Paul and Mable (Yeager) McNac. He worked as a security guard for Gilcrease Museum.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Rosa Yeager and Charlie and Bessie McNac and one brother, Wallace Yeager.
Survivors include, his parents, Paul McNac of Okemah and Mable McNac of Morris; three daughters, Cynthia McNac, Catherine McNac, and Cassandra McNac, all of Payson, Arizona; one son, Samuel McNac of Tulsa; three sisters, Paula McNac and Marla McNac of Morris and Nancy McNac of Henryetta; two brothers, Gerald McNac of Mississippi and Eric McNac of Henryetta; three aunts, four uncles, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services
will be Tuesday, April 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the Belvin Baptist Church with the Rev. Wesley Berry officiating. Burial will follow at the Morris Cemetery under the direction of Kelley Funeral Home.
A Wake was held Monday, April 2 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the Belvin Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Lowe Jr., Kelly Lowe, Ronald Lowe, Marsey Washington, Stanley Harjo, and Danny Roberts.
JOE H. ROCKWOOD
Joe H. Rockwood, former Beggs resident, died March 13, 2001 in Midland, Texas. He was born June 30, 1913 in New Washington, Ind., to Mr.and Mrs. Adam Rockwood.
He grew up in Beggs and spent a good part of his life there. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was employed by Amerada Hess for 57 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Midland. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife Lillian "Lil"; his daughter Helen; three grandsons and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services
were held March 17 in Trinity Memorial Park in Big Springs, Texas under direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association, 3205 West Culbert St., A-8, Midland, Texas or to the First Baptist Church of Midland.
Billy Ray Moore
Billy Ray Moore, 73, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2001, after a short illness. Funeral services
were on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Bill was born in Olney, Texas on September 15, 1927, to Daniel Lee "Bill" Moore and C. Rhea Moore. He served in the U. S. Army as a Sergeant in World War II and returned to Morris, Oklahoma after the war to complete his high school education. He retired from Sun Oil Company after 36 years service.
Bill is preceded in death by both parents, his wife of 41 years, Barbara Ann Moore, infant daughter Patricia and infant granddaughter Brittany Warner. He is survived by his wife Patricia J. Moore, Fredericksburg, Texas, two sons, Michael S. Moore, Corpus Christi, Texas and J. C. Schulke, Watauga, Texas, and one daughter, Connie M. Warner, Corpus Christi, Texas. Other survivors include two sisters, Virginia Driskill, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Linda Elman, Tulsa, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren, many cousins and innumerable friends from coast to coast.
CHARLIE G. SADLER
Charlie G. Sadler, 79, a longtime Okmulgee resident, died in Muskogee V.A. Hospital on Monday, April 02,2001. Mr. Sadler was born in Beggs, Oklahoma on February 4,1922 to Charlie Newton and Anna Faye (Warren) Sadler. Charlie was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was employed as a glassworker for ASG Industries for 13 years, and then he worked as a Sprinkler Fitter until his retirement.
Mr. Sadler was a lifetime member of the VFW 1189, the Masonic Lodge 319 in Beggs, and the Tulsa Scottish Rite.
Survivors include two sons James Kirby of Okmulgee, Charles Sadler Jr. of Shawnee, a daughter and son in law Sharon and Gary Washburn of Shawnee, one granddaughter Stefanie Washburn of Dallas, Texas, his wife Jean Sadler of Shawnee, one brother, C.D. Sadler of Beggs, two sisters Dorothy Jean Prine and Marie Gunkel both of Okmulgee, special friends Gene and Ida Allen and Edith Grissom all of Okmulgee, and many special nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services
will be on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at 2 PM at the McClendon Chapel with Rev. Raymond Doke officiating. Internment will be in the Beggs Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the Funeral Home from 11 AM until 8 PM.
Pallbearers will be Henry Sadler, James Sadler, Maverick Sadler, Mike Sadler, Billy Ray Sadler and Gary Prine. Honorary Pallbearers Wayne Gunkel, Fred Sadler and Gene Allen.
Mr. Sadler was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers Alonzo Kenneth Sadler, John Alexander Sadler, Dolphas Marion Sadler, Greenie Alfred Sadler, Rosco Nelson Sadler and Glen Kelly Sadler.
MAXINE A. STOWERS
Maxine A. Stowers, lifelong Okmulgee resident, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital. She was 85. She was born October 25, 1916 in Okmulgee to Mr. And Mrs. Curly Gardner. She married Preston Stowers in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She had worked Polly's Department Store for several years. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Preston Stowers, a brother-in-law and wife, Russell and Doris Stowers of Claremore, two sisters-in-law, Beulah Cubic of California and Jewell Patterson of Arizona, and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services
will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at the Crosstown Pentecostal Holiness Church with Reverend Wesley Berry officiating. Interment
will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Paul Brown, Bud Strange, Harvey Thompson, Rev. Delbert Belcher, Reverend Forrest Lawson, and Jimmy Lemaster. Friends may visit the funeral home from 4-8 PM on Monday and 9-12 on Tuesday. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
LILLIAN B. KING
Mrs. Lillian B. King, 75, and a resident of Okmulgee, died May 22, 2002 in a Henryetta nursing home. Mrs. King was born on October 15, 1926 in Hitchita, OK, the daughter of Peter and Addie (Fisher) King. She attended the Grayson Public Schools and was of the Baptist Faith. She moved to Okmulgee from Kinta, OK in 2000. Before her retirement, she worked as restaurant cook. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Survivors include her sisters, Norma J. Taylor and husband Son Taylor, and Janice Dalcour, all of Okmulgee; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Service of memory for Mrs. King will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at 3 p.m. Graveside in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery. Reverend Henry McGriff and Reverend Carl Morgan will officiate. Burial will follow the service.
Funeral services
are under the direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. of Okmulgee. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
GERARD A. JOHNSON
Mr. Gerard A. Johnson, age 46 and a resident of Muskogee, formerly of Okmulgee, died on Thursday, may 23, 2002 in his home in Muskogee.
Funeral services
are pending with the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. of Muskogee, OK.
Eugene Combs
Eugene Combs, 90, a resident of Okmulgee, passed away Saturday May 18, 2002, in a Tulsa Hospital. Born July 25, 1911 in Olympia, OK to Eugene and Martha Combs.
He was a retired mechanic. Preceding him in death are his parents, wife Dorothy Combs and son Carl.
Survivors include several nieces, along with other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at the chapel.
A home going service will be conducted Wednesday May 29, 2002, 11 a.m. at the New Salem Baptist Church, with Rev. Willie Antwine Sr. officiating. Interment
will follow to Our Lady of Grace Cemetery under the direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.
Anna E. Hughes
Anna E. Hughes, 76, Champaign, Illinois, passed away May 20, 2002, in Champaign. She was born October 24, 1925 in Beggs, Oklahoma, to Jess Vernon and Ona Russell. She married John T. Russell on April 15, 1946 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Champaign.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Anna Marie Davey of Ludlow, IL and Ona Mae Stevens of Rankin, IL and one son, John T. Hughes of Savoy, IL; one sister Edith Yancy of Roswell, New Mexico; one brother L.C. Birchum of Mounds, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on May 29, 2002, at the First Nazarene Church in Champaign with Pastor Howie Stooksbury officiating.
Burial will be private in Oklahoma.
Funeral arrangements are by Owens Funeral Home, Champaign, IL.
PAULINE BRYAN
Pauline Bryan, 91, a resident of Henryetta, died Wednesday, May 23, 2002 at her home in Henryetta. She was born October 31, 1910 in Pryor, OK to Martha Jane and Boston Ingram. She was married to Walter "Pete" Bryan in Henryetta on October 31, 1931. She owned and operated Bryan's Upholstery Shop in Henryetta for many years. She had resided in Henryetta since 1920. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Henryetta.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Pete" Bryan, brothers Ernest, Glen, Loyd and Walter Ingram, sisters Myrtle Moore, Irene Monroe and Virginia Morgan.
She is survived by her two sons, Walter "Pete" Bryan and wife Toostsy, Bartlesville; Dwight Bryan and wife Ann of Henryetta, 2 daughters, Joan Eanes, Muskogee and Jane Payton and husband Reggie of Skiatook; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Edmond Ingram and Anen Ingram of Henryetta; 2 sisters, Oma Hastings and Faye Shepherd, both of Henryetta, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
Services will be held May 28, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Shurden Funeral Home Chapel in Henryetta with Rev. Bill Foster, officiating. Burial will be at the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.
GLADYS HARJO
Gladys 'Lonnie" Harjo, 69 of Dustin, died Wednesday, May 22 at her home in Dustin. She resided in Hanna her entire life while living the last ten years in Dustin. She was born March 4, 1933 in Hanna, OK to Samuel Jackson and Alice Hill Jackson. She married Joseph Harjo who has preceded her in June 7, 1975. She was a longtime member of Trinton Indian Baptist Church and was the 4th Women's Leader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, Josephine Harjo and Rhonda Harjo, and a son James Harjo.
She is survived by five sons, Eugene Harjo of Oklahoma City, Samuel Harjo of Okemah, Phillip Harjo of Dustin, Nathaniel Harjo of Hectorville, William Harjo of Livingston, TX; three daughters, Lillian Tiger of Oklahoma City, Louise Harjo of Dustin, Ester Billy of Holdenville, a brother, Dave Jackson of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Edna Jackson of Dustin and Geneva Jackson of Henryetta; 20 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Services will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Trinton Indian Baptist Church. Wakes services were held Saturday, May 25th at the Robert Simons Funeral Home Chapel. A wake will be held at the family home Monday night May 27, 2002 at 7 p.m. Interment
will follow the funeral service on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at the Jackson/Harjo family cemetery. Rev. Woodrow Wilson and Rev. Nelson Harjo will officiate.
Casketbearers will be Bruce Harjo, Noah Tiger, Zernie Billy, Amos Lowe and Ron Peace.
Services are under the direction of Robert Simons Funeral Home in Henryetta.
