LLOYD BURGESS
Lloyd Burgess, 72, longtime Okmulgee resident died in Tulsa Monday, August 27, 2001. He was born July 20, 1929 in Schulter, Oklahoma.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked as a repairman. He was an active golfer and fisherman. Lloyd was a member of the Henryetta Country Club and the Morris Golf Association. His parents John and Viola (Rhinehart) Neely and one grandson preceded him in death
Survivors include his wife Dianne Burgess of the home; four sons and daughters in law Skip and Debra Burgess of Okmulgee, Everett and Sandy Rea of Indianapolis, Md, Tim and Martha Rea of Guthrie, Ok, and Kevin and Cheryl Rea of Morris, three sisters Yannah and husband Alvin Yancey of Brushill, OK, Delores Corcoran of Schulter, and Kathy Summers of Preston; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services
will be Wednesday, August 29, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the McClendon-Winters Chapel. Rev. George Christy will officiate. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.
Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by a United States Naval National Guard Unit.
CYNTHIA L. LEADER
Cynthia Louise Leader, 41, of Henryetta died Aug. 25, 2001 in Tulsa. She was born Oct. 15, 1959 to John Kemper and Jacqueline Smith.
She was married to Eddie Leader on April 15, 1995 at Haworth, Okla. She was baptized at the Town and Country Christian Church and loved her church family. Recently she had also been attending the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie of the home; two sons, Brent Moore and Sandy of Henryetta and Bryan Leader of the home; four step-daughters, Lisa Leader of Braggs, Angela Dodds of Haworth, Okla., Shelley Hendrix of Hugo and Stephany Friend of Broken Bow; her father, John Kemper and wife Susan of New Mexico; her mother, Jacqueline Smith and husband Drexall of California; two sisters, Christy Castleberry and Tammy Kemper, both of California and two step-brothers, Andre Smith of Texas and Tony Smith of California.
Services are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m., at the Okmulgee Town and Christian Church with Rev. David Kemp, Rev. Susan Kemper, Rev. Bill Park and Rev. Rick Robart officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery under direction of the Robert Simons Funeral Home of Henryetta. Pallbearers will be Brent Moore, Raymond Leader, Randy Leader, Robert Dodds, Kevin Collins and Phil Wixson.
JOYCE DETURK
Joyce (Stemple) DeTurk, 50, of Beggs, died at her home on Monday, Aug, 27, 2001. She was born Oct. 20, 1950 in Philippi, WV to Nelson and Abigail (Duckworth) Stemple.
She was a housewife and loved flower gardens, quilting, art and painting. She and her husband William DeTurk have lived in the Beggs area for some 24 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beggs. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, William Brad DeTurk and wife Shawn of Okmulgee; a daughter, Kerri Key and husband Jeffrey of Okmulgee; four brothers, Frank and wife Joy Stemple, John Stemple, James Stemple, Daris Stemple and wife Laurel, all of Phillipi, WV; two sisters, Sue and husband Steve Green of Markinsburg, WV and Elizabeth Duffitt of Manasses, WV; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services
will be Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. at the Beggs First Baptist Church with Rev. Clint Sinclair and Rev. Tom Tidwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Beggs Cemetery under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be her brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug, 28, from 10 a. m. until 8 p.m., at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs. The family requests that donations be made to the Seasons Hospice in Tulsa.
VIRGINIA I. PATTERSON
Virginia I. Patterson, 77, of Okmulgee died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001.
Services are pending with Floral Haven Funeral Home of Broken Arrow.
IOLA PETERS
Iola Peters, 83, of Okmulgee died Aug. 22, 2001 at her home. She was born Nov. 15, 1917 in Oklahoma to Jim and Florine (Dozier) Evans.
Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Service of Memory will be conducted Friday, Aug. 31 in the Mt. Calvary Miracle Temple at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Old Post Oak Cemetery at Beggs under direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.
TILTON BATTS
Tilton "Soda" Batts, 79, a resident of Henryetta and formerly of Okmulgee, died Aug. 24 at his home. He was born July 14, 1922 in Bristow to James and Annie (Adams) Batts.
A 20-year veteran of the United States Army, he also worked at the meatpacking plant. He also served on the Okmulgee Police Auxiliary Force.
Survivors include his wife, Ann of the home; two daughters, Debby Arnold and Cheri Hertzenburger, both of Tulsa; four grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug.30 in the Precious Memories Chapel with Dan Corder officiating and assisted by Rev. David Burks.
Military Honors will be conducted at the Okmulgee Cemetery in the Veterans Circle by the Okmulgee VFW Post 1189 and Henryetta VFW Post 531 immediately following the service. Cremation supervised by the House of Winn Funeral Home.
RHONDA GLEE BROWN
Rhonda Glee Brown, 39, of Elizabeth, Colorado, formerly of Cushing died Thursday August 23, 2001 at Littleton, Colorado. Funeral services
were at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2001 at the Faith Baptist Church 1600 East North Street in Cushing. Pastor C.L. Hall presided with burial at the Harrell Cemetery east of Cushing.

were under the direction of the Palmer Funeral Home of Cushing.
Born June 17, 1962 in Cushing to Jackie Ray and Thelma Frick. She was a graduate of Okmulgee High School. She was married to Darryle Denton Brown of Cushing on March 27, 1983 in Okmulgee.
Survivors include husband Darryle of the home, 1 son Justus Dillon Brown, 1 brother Erick Frick of Alameda, CA, mother and stepfather, Thelma and Robert L. Wilson of Beggs, OK. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
DERIK G. MILLER
Derik Gerad Miller, 34, of Oklahoma City died Aug.13, 2001. He was born April 6, 1967 in San Bernardino, Calif.
Survivors include his parents, Brenda J. Hartfield of Bartlesville and Kenneth R. Miller of New Mexico; one brother, Erik Miller of Tulsa; one sister, Rachelle Miller of Okmulgee; his grandmother, Nadine Sanders of Okmulgee and a host of family members and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 18 at St. Mary's Christian Center in Okmulgee. Burial will follow at Sharp's Cemetery.
GENELLE WOODARD
Genelle Woodard, 88, of Morris died Aug.15, 2001at a Tulsa hospital.
Survivors and arrangements will be announced by the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris.
LINDA NEAL STOLL
Linda Neal Stoll, 60, of Granbury, Texas and formerly of Okmulgee and Beggs, died Aug. 12, 2001 in Fort Worth. She was born June 1, 1941 in Tulsa.
She moved from Chicago to Granbury in 1992 and along with her husband, Patrick, owned and operated the Doyle House Bed & Breakfast. She was a member of the Bed & Breakfast Association, Granbury Beautification Council and a volunteer for the Granbury Convention & Visitors Bureau. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Patrick Stoll and her brother.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kirsten and David Trout of Grand Prairie, Texas; a son, David Stoll of Dallas; two grandchildren; her mother, Phi Delta Neal of Beggs and a sister, Delta Lee Truby of Okmulgee.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday in the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Acton. Burial will be in the Beggs Cemetery on Friday, Aug.17.
RAYMOND SHIPLEY
Raymond Shipley, 82, a resident of Henryetta, died Friday, August 10 in Wewoka. He was born on August 19, 1918 in Scipio, OK to Oliver B. and Ethel Schuller Shipley.
He attended the Tannyhill School and later attended high school in Indianola, but his education was cut short when he was needed at home for farm work and support the growing family. He later went to work for Verg Wettle at his grocery store in McAlester. He then worked for Safeway Stores in New Mexico and California. He worked for Consolidated Aircraft as a lead man on a bomber assembly line in Fort Worth, Texas and New Orleans, La., before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He was a gunners mate on the USS St. Louis and was injured in battle for which he was awarded the Purple Heart and various other medals. He also worked for companies in Redwood City, Calif., and Lafayette, Calif. He was married to Eceneith (Skip) Lang in 1960 and they operated Shipley's Pool Service in Lafayette and Forestville, Calif. until 1987 when he retired and they moved back to Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and a younger brother who was killed at Luzon during the war.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years; sons, Roger and wife Julie, Jerry and Douglas of California and Jim of Nebraska; daughters, Connie and husband Richard of California and Peggy of Nebraska; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Byrd, Reva Mott, Leotis and husband Roy Sanders and Geneva and husband T. C. Key, all of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Paul and wife Lois of California and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services
will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 16 at the Tannyhill Cemetery in Tannyhill, near McAlester, under direction of the Rogers Funeral Home of Henryetta. VFW Post 539 of Henryetta and VFW Post 1189 of Okmulgee will conduct Military Services.
OSCAR LEE PHILLIPS
Oscar Lee Phillips, 61, a resident of the Nuyaka Community west of Okmulgee, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001 at the local hospital. He was born May 30, 1940 in Nuyaka, the son of John Philips and Idella Queen Phillips.
He attended Nuyaka schools and was a brick mason in the construction industry. He was also a farmer and a member of the Northside Evangelistic Temple in Preston. He was preceded in death on Aug. 3, 2001 by his wife, Mary Brantley Phillips.
Survivors include his sons, Keith Phillips of Okmulgee, Larry Phillips, Ted O.L. Phillips, Tracy Phillips and Stacy Phillips, all of Grayson; his daughters, Alicea Bagby of Preston, and Lorzetta Phillips and Eliza Phillips, both of Morris; his brothers, Earl Bowman Phillips and James Allen Phillips, both of Okmulgee; sisters, Johnnie Mae Phillips of Okmulgee and Bertie Mae Wagner of Crockett, Texas; 18 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Service of Memory will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 at 11a.m., in the Northside Evangelistic Temple in Preston with Elder Ralph Bagby officiating. Burial will follow in the Nuyaka Cemetery under direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m., until 7p.m., at the funeral home.
EDD LESTER
Edd Lester, 82, of Shawnee and a former Henryetta resident, died Aug. 13, 2001 in Oklahoma City. He was born Jan. 25, 1919 in Bokchito, Okla., to Charles Lester and Ida (Willmoth) Lester.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Leona Lester and brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Sonja Lee England and husband Gary of Yukon; two grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; twin brother, Fred and brother, Herman Lester.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Shurden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Aaron Brock officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery under direction of Shurden Funeral Home.
LELA JANE LOONEY
Lela Jane Looney, 79, of Dustin died Aug, 14, 2001. She was born Jan. 22, 1922 in Dustin to Edmond Whitlow and Jeanette (Bunny) Whitlow.
She was a member of Thewarle Indian Baptist Church where she was baptized on July 6, 1942 by Mose Wiley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe B. Looney; Mother Jeanette; her father the Rev. Edmond Whitlow and a brother, Rev. Eastman Whitlow.
Survivors include a son, Charles Looney of Okemah; a daughter, Beverly Sumka of Henryetta; sisters, Virginia Barnett and Lucille Whitlow, both of Dustin; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A wake service will be held at 2p.m., Thursday at the Thewarle Indian Baptist Church. Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug.17, at Thewarle Indian Baptist Church with Rev. Mitchell Taylor officiating.
Burial will be in the Whitlow Family Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Carl Snow, Alan Snow, Joe Looney, Robert Looney, Tommy Looney, Brian Looney, Eastman Whitlow Jr., and Johnny Micco.
