LEE ROY JOSHUA SR.
Lee Roy Joshua Sr., 64, of Okmulgee died Oct. 8, 2001. He was born and raised in Holdenville and lived in Okmulgee.
He was a member of Many Springs Baptist Church where he was baptized at age 11 by Rev. Arthur Bruner. He was married to Lucille Joshua in Tulsa on March 2, 1967. He was a self-taught artist, working with oils, pastels, tempera, watercolors and sculpts in bronze. His art is on display in many museums and galleries throughout Oklahoma and various states including the Oklahoma Historical Museum, OKC; Creek Council House Museum; Five Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee, museums in South Dakota, Tennessee, Arizona, Kansas and Arkansas. His work has also received awards in a variety of art shows around the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond Joshua Sr. and Dorothy Tiger; and two brothers, Bobby Wayne and Larry Burden.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Lucille Joshua of the home; his step-mom, Sarah Joshua; sons, Lee Joshua Jr. and wife Paula, Lloyd and Lawanna Beaver, Richard and Betty Beaver and Ward and Laura Beaver, all of Okmulgee; daughters, Sherri Joshua, Sidienia Joshua, Betty and husband Stanley Harjo and Leslie and Rick Powell, all of Okmulgee and Regina Tiger of Shawnee; brothers, Edmond Joshua Jr., Randall Joshua, Martin Joshua, Travis Burden, George Joshua and Andrew Davis; sisters, Betty Howell, Susie Joshua, Ann Lou Joshua, Mary Factor, Bonita Blackburn, Jaretta Joshua and Mary Louise Martin; 21 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Wake services will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday at Belvin Baptist Church. Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12 with ministers David Deere, Edgar Beaver and Malcolm Tiger officiating.
Burial will be in the Tallahasee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Mangum, B.J. Waggnor, Mike Tiger, Rick Powell, Sammy Howell and W. E. Howell.
DONALD "BUCK" LAWSON
Donald Edward "Buck" Lawson, 63, of Okmulgee, died Saturday, October 13, 2001 at his home. He was born Feb. 8, 1938 in Okmulgee to John Dan and Goldie Margret (Cook) Lawson.
When he returned to Okmulgee from California he worked as a roofer. He was married to Kathleen Marie (Conterman) Lawson on July 15,1977. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Donette Lawson a brother, Oliver Lawson, a sister, Carmelita Lawson and a grandson, Nathan Holden.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Lawson of the home; three daughters, Carolyn Lawson of Preston, Marlene Chapman of El Reno, and Laura Lawson of Okmulgee; a son, Donald Lawson of Bakersfield, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Alston of Tuttle, Okla., and Olivia Lawson of Okmulgee; three brothers, Danny Lawson, Esten Milligan and Kenneth Milligan of Okmulgee;10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be announced by the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home for a date later this month.
LOIS FAY PARKER
Lois Fay Parker, 73, of Okmulgee, died Monday, October 15, 2001 at Rebold Manor. She was born February 1, 1928 in Cromwell, Oklahoma to Billy and Hallie (Roof) McDonald.
She married Jessie Vernon Parker in December 1947 in Muskogee. They moved to Wichita in 1953 from Okmulgee, then returned to Okmulgee l l years ago. She was a member of Natura Baptist Church. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Jessie Vernon Parker of the home; two sons, Vernon D. Parker of High Ridge, Mo., and Calvin L. Parker of Wichita, Kans.; a sister, Lucille Waldroop of Okmulgee, and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services
will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lawrence Matlock officiating. Burial will follow in the Weleetka Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home from l2-8 on Thursday. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
ADAM W. HALL
Adam W. Hall, 98, of Okmulgee died Saturday, October 13, 2001 at a local Hospital. He was born July 14, 1903 to Benjamin F. and Rebekah (Pennington) Hall.
Adam was known for his fiddle playing. He played all around Okmulgee County. He enjoyed going to Senior Citizens and would sometimes play there also.
Survivors include four daughters, Thelma Moss of Perryton, TX Bertha Jacobs of Morris, Muriel Hall of Perryton, Mary Dorton of Perryton, TX a son Daniel Hall of Purcell, OK, one brother; Lonnie Hall of Sapulpa; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and thirty-one great-great grandchildren. He was preceded him in death by his parents, his first wife Ruby (Hager) Hall, his second wife Juanita Colson, three sons, two daughters, two sisters, nine brothers, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services
will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 18, at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Euell Qualls officiating. Burial will follow in the Senora Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Funeral home.
Casketbearers will be great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren, Pyllis Christi, Janie Webster, Marcy Blackburn, Asley Christi, Delicia Blackburn and Paula Webster, along with Ed Humphreys, David Hopper, Charlie Kilgore and Olan Goodwin.
CHARLIE MOODY
Charlie Moody, 83, a resident of Dewar, died on Oct 13, 2001. He was born February 3, 1918 in Patrick, Arkansas to Jesse Moody and Eva Thomas.
He retired from Western Union after 22 years of employment. He married Iola Marie Tweedy on Dec. 22, 1938 in Huntsville, Ark. and the two of them attended the First Freewill Baptist Church in Henryetta. His parents and a sister Hazel Hadridge preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Iola Marie Moody of the home; his children, Odessa L. Alger of Lynwood, Wash., Jesse F Moody of Stockston, Calif., and Linda Champagne of Roseville., Calif.;10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John T. Staggs officiating. Burial will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.
DONALD 'BUDDY' SNOW
Donald "Buddy" Snow ,70, died on October 13, 2001. He was born on October 8, 1931 in Henryetta, Oklahoma to Georgia Snow.
He was a graduate of Okmulgee High School. He resided in Okmulgee until 1952 at which time he joined the Army where he served our country for eight years. Upon discharge from the Army he worked as a civilian at Tinker AFB until pursuing a career at the federal Aviation Administration from which he retired in l994. He worked over 40 years for the Federal Government. He married his wife, Jeanie, December l, 1976. They have spent the last 25 as residents of the Little Axe community. Don served on the Little Axe school board for 9 years, a number of which he served as president.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanie, three daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Jay Townsend of Norman, Kelly and Justin Walters of Harrah, and Jami and Jason Townley of Moore; seven grandchildren; and his sister, Dorothy Lou Snow of Okmulgee. He was preceded in death by his mother, a brother, Jimmy Snow and a son Rick Snow.
A memorial service will be held at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home in Del City on Tuesday, October 16th at 2:00 p.m.
FREDDIE MAE COOKS
Freddie Mae Cooks, 72, of Okmulgee died Friday, Oct. 12 in a Tulsa hospital. She was born on September 3, 1929 in Okmulgee to Fred and Evelyn (Jordan) Arledge.
She was a homemaker and laundry attendant. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include one son, Tilman Ellis, Jr. of Owasso, OK; five daughters, Constance Hill, Stephanie Mims, both of Tulsa, Wilmette Cooks Daily, Cheryl Smith, Synthia Cooks, all of Okmulgee; one brother, Robert Arledge of Los Angeles, CA; five sisters, Brenda Oshman, Veronica Drew, Sheila Kaye Robbins, Patsy Jackson, and Pamela Hill; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, along with numerous relatives and friends.
Funeral services
will be held on Wednesday, October 17 at 11 a.m. at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie M. Davis officiating. Interment
will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 16 from Noon until 6 p.m.
EMMA (OMA) HOFSESS
Emma (Oma) Hofsess, 95, of Okmulgee died Oct. 9, 2001 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 14, 1906 in Berlin, Germany to Wilhelm and Loise Hoepfner.
She was married to Alfred Hofsess on May 11, 1925 in Berlin. They had one daughter, Emmi, who was married to Eldon Jarvis in Landshut, Germany on May 15, 1952. She died Nov.10, 1994 in Okmulgee. Emma and Alfred came to Okmulgee in 1976 to be near their daughter. Alfred died May 2, 1979 in Berlin and Emma returned to Okmulgee in 1980.
Services and survivors will be announced by the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
