Montgomery
Dale E. "Papa" Montgomery, 68, Altus, died Wednesday January 5, 2005, at his home.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Victory Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.
Dale was born Feb. 16, 1936, in Mangum to Ed and Ada Marie (Leonard) Montgomery.
He married Marietta Williams on Aug. 4, 1957, west of Altus at the homestead of Tom and Ada Willis.
He worked in road construction for many years.
On Dec. 16, 1980, Dale and Marietta opened Altus Petal Pushers.
They owned and operated the flower shop for 21 years.
He was an avid reader and frequented coffee shops.
He took pride in his home and his business.
He loved spending time with his family and his animals.
He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother Nathan Brent and a sister Patricia Mooneyham.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marietta of the home in Altus; his daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Randy McDow of Altus; one son, Monty Montgomery of Pampa, Texas; one nephew Phil Mooneyham who was thought of as a son; two grandsons, Timothy McDow and his wife Patricia, and Dale Glen Montgomery; one granddaughter, Brenna McDow; three brothers, Carroll Montgomery of Wichita Falls, Texas; Gary Montgomery of Altus and Neil Montgomery of Duke; two sisters, Phyllis Graumann of Big Spring, Texas, and Sherry Blackwell of Carson City, Nev.; two great grandsons, Austin and Waylin McDow; many nieces, nephews and friends; and two little puppies, Muff and Annie, which he loved dearly.
The Montgomery Family will recieve friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday evening at Kincannon Funeral Home.
Smith
Hazel Fern Smith, 91, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Smith was born August 8, 1913, in Collingsworth County, Texas, to Homer and Dela Sewell.
She attended school at Twitty, Texas.
She married Robert Vernon Smith on Sept. 23, 1933, and the lived their entire married life near Shamrock, Texas.
She loved to crochet, play dominoes and bingo.
Smith is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years Robert Smith, one son Robert Smith, Jr. and a granddaughter.
She is survived by four children and their spouses: Millard and Diane Smith of Warren; James and Patti Smith of Pampa, Texas; Atha and Kenneth Wright of Warren and Rita and Clois Richardson of Elk City; 19 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Faith Smith of New Waverly, Texas.
Services for Fern Smith are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the 11th Street Baptist Church in Shamrock, Texas, with the Revs. Gene Lancaster and Joel Stafford officiating.
Burial will follow at the Shamrock Cemetery under the direction of Wright's Funeral Home of Shamrock.
Guthrie
Merry Mignon Guthrie, 71, of Norman died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, in Norman.
There will be private family viewing.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23 2004, at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman, with the Rev. Cal Brannon officiating.
Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Guthrie was born July 21, 1933, in Altus to Samuel Kip and Ruth Lillian Thornton.
She attended high school in Headrick where she was a member of the girls basketball district championship team.
In 1950, she graduated as valedictorian of her class.
Guthrie was accepted to the University of Oklahoma School of Nursing.
At age 16, she was the youngest person to date admitted to the program.
At OU, she was a member of the Delta Alpha Honor Society and the Swimming Club.
She graduated as a registered nurse in 1952 and married Jack Wayne Guthrie that same year.
She worked at Griffin Memorial Hospital as a psychiatric nurse until her retirement in 1991.
Guthrie enjoyed a number of hobbies, including reading, flower gardening, Sooner football, spending time with her friends and playing bridge.
She and her husband won the North American Regional Rubber Bridge Tournament in 1962.
She was a member of the McFarlin United Memorial Methodist Church in Norman.
Guthrie was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Kip and Ruth Lillian Thornton; her husband, Jack Wayne; sister, Wilna Lee Wilks; and brother, Samuel Kip (Jack) Thornton Jr.
Survivors include her son, Steven Wayne Guthrie, and wife, Dana, of Spring, Texas; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Duncan and husband, Alan, of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Dana Lynn Martin and husband, Jon, of Kirkland, Wash.; sister-in-law Jessie May Thornton Dollins of Altus; grandson Michael Ray Duncan of Sunnyvale, Calif.; two step-grandchildren, Blake Allen Miller and Cory Wayne Miller, both of Oklahoma City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2420 Springer Dr. Suite 215 Norman, OK 73069.
Drury
Janie Bell (Dickerson) Drury 86, of Olustee, died on Dec. 13, 2004 in Altus.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at Boggy Cemetery, South of Olustee, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Drury was born Jan. 22, 1918, to the late George and Leola (Robertson) Dickerson in Strewder (north of Gould) in Harmon County and attended school in McQueen.
Janie was a homemaker, she loved to sew but her passion was cooking, she cooked professionally for the Olustee Public School System, Jackson County Memorial Hospital and Furr's Cafeteria.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband Jasper Blane Drury, Sept. 25, 2000, two daughters Peggy Ann Holly, April 21, 2003, Callie Studer, Oct. 5, 2003, eight brothers: Claude, Pete, Zearl, Harris, Jesse, Bennie, George, Archie and three sister; Edna, Mary and Artie.
She is survived by two sons; Homer Cloyce Johnson of Wichita Falls, Texas, Blane Don and Laura Drury of Iowa Park, Texas; and three daughters, Cecile Hogue and Bobby of Tulsa, Hope Meyer and Mike of Sulphur, Elaine Prater and Charles of Edmond; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Inez Neely of Altus; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Janie was a loving wife and a devoted mother and grandmother.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Alzheimer's Research, C/O Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation 825 N.E. 13th St. Oklahoma City, OK 73104 in memory of Janie Bell Drury.
Varner
Mary Patricia (Pat) Varner, 82, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater under the direction of the Strode Funeral Home.

Referred to and known by her family and friends as "Mom" or "Granny Pat." Pat was born in Lawton May 1, 1922.
Pat grew up in Chattanooga, where her family, the George Gutshall's owned and operated several businesses, including a grocery store and the area farm equipment and gasoline company known as the "Big Ben," both businesses being the cornerstone of the Chattanooga community for over 60 years.
Pat graduated from Chattanooga High School and attended and graduated with a degree in math education from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas.
Pat returned to Chattanooga to help her family with their business and was working at the Big Ben when she met Rodney C. Varner, became engaged and they married on Dec. 21, 1946.
Their marriage later ended in divorce.
Pat and Rod made their home in Chattanooga and their first child, Rodette, was born in Lawton in 1947.
In 1959, the family moved to Altus as a result of expanding their business and Altus was home for Pat until 1971.
It was during this time that their second child, Scott was born in Altus in 1962.
The couple divorced in 1971 and Pat and Scott moved to Stillwater to be close to Rodette and her family.
Pat made Stillwater her home for the rest of her life, with her most recent years being in residence at Golden Oaks.
During her lifetime, Pat was a constant source of support and care giving.
She suffered many of life's difficulties, always springing back to be there supporting her family thru her kindness, hard work and great cooking.
Pat was a devoted mother to her daughter and son and was a devout Presbyterian.
She was a source of joy to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they a source of pride and joy for her.
Pat was active in the Presbyterian Women's Circle, the Stillwater Women's Travel Club.
The Bodyworks Work Out Group, where she was always in their working out and trying to keep the beat of the latest aerobic routine for the "Nifty Fifties," The Stillwater Medical Center Women's Auxiliary group, the Stillwater Country Club and numerous organizations including the cub scouts, boy scouts and Stillwater High School Boosters.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; a brother George, Jr. who was killed in France in World War II; a sister, Vera Pearl Shreve.
She is survived by her daughter Rodette Green and her husband, Rick of Stillwater, her son Scott Varner and his wife Monica of Claremore; grandchildren, Todd Green and his wife Deborah of Stillwater and Staci Green Cozby and her husband Cary of Wichita, Kan. and Michael and Brian Barner of Claremore and the three great granddaughters Gabby, Tallie and Reid Green, all of Stillwater.
Also, she has a nephew, Warren Shreve of Edmond and Warenne Shreve MacArthur of Venice, Fla.
