Marie Powell Woods

Graveside services for Marie Powell Woods, 95, Oklahoma City, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. David George officiating. Interment followed at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur. Born June 5, 1921 in Sherman, Texas to James Knox and Maude (Frier) Powell, she passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, in Oklahoma City, She married Horace “Woody” Woods in Guthrie on June 12, 1941. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2007. Marie grew up in Sulphur, graduating from Sulphur High School. She attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha for two years before transferring to Oklahoma University for one year where she played on the women’s golf team. She left during WWII when the military recruited her to be a typist. She was raised in the Methodist Church, starting in the church her grandfather helped to build. She was a member of the Sulphur United Methodist Church where she was active in choir, Sunday School and Bible Studies. Her lifelong interest was in music, dance, and art. She played the piano, violin and saxophone. She won numerous awards for music, dancing and speech, was an artist who loved to paint. Her children still have and cherish all her paintings. Her first love was family and her relationship with Jesus Christ. After marrying and living in Oklahoma City, she began volunteer work, which was special to her. She was a member of the Oklahoma City Jaycee Janes, Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader and Oklahoma City Public School PTA. She became ill in April 2016 and came home to Sulphur (her favorite place) where she had many interests and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, James Franklin Woods, grandson, J. Woods and brother, George Powell. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betsy Woods Beck and Robert of Edmond; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Charles Woods and Dawn of Springfield, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Victoria Woods, four grandchildren, James Franklin Woods, Jr and Barbara, Pamela Sue Denton and Troy, Jennifer Marie Beck and Christina Rae Beck; five great grandchildren, Noah Denton, Silas Denton, Issac Denton, Erin Woods and Elizabeth Woods.

Virginia Lee Fox

Funeral services for Virginia Lee Fox were held 2:00PM, Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Davis with Brothers Terry Tramell, Gary Akerman, Vernon Carr and Billy Staggs officiating. Interment followed at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Davis. Virginia was born August 21, 1933 in Davis to the late Robert Lee and Ruby Mae (Green) Fullerton. She died Friday, September 9, 2016 at her home in Davis, surrounded by her family. She was 83 years and 18 days old. Virginia and Delford Ray Fox were married on November 6, 1953 in Davis. As a lifelong resident of Davis, Virginia was a 1952 graduate of Davis High School. Throughout her life she volunteered and helped others in any way she could. She served with the Murray County Election Board, assisting with local elections, volunteered as a substitute teacher for the Davis Public Schools, assisted with the Davis Band Boosters and provided childcare for many kids. She was a faithful member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Davis, where she enjoyed leading music and teaching Sunday school. In her spare time, Virginia could be found reading the Bible, crocheting, working in her flower gardens or cooking for her family and friends. She had an unwavering love for her family and supported them in all their endeavors. She was an avid fan of the Davis Wolves. Survivors include her devoted husband, Delford; one daughter, Marsha Roady of Davis; two sons, Wayne Fox and wife Glenda of Mustang and Danny Fox and wife Billie of Davis; seven grandchildren, Nathan Roady, Amanda Ogletree, Kandi Nelson, Lindsey Fried, Clint Linkous, Morgan Fox and Turner Fox; 14 great-grandchildren, Hunter Fox, Tatum, Teagen and Triston Nelson, Lily and Loxley Fried, Rhyen and Nixon Roady, Zoey Ogletree, Tracelynn Schandorff, Kelen Owens, Kynlee Luckinbill, Maddux Caldwell and Harper Fox, as well as one sister, Pauline Gist of Davis. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by one grandson, Daniel Fox. Serving as pallbearers were her nephews, Eddie Gist, Steve Ratchford, Carl Ratchford, Greg Fox, Glen Fox, Sherman Reed and Shannon Reed.

Theresa L. Testerman

Services for Theresa L. Testerman will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct.13, 2016, at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis. Theresa was born March 3, 1950 in Oklahoma City to the late Wayne and Dorthy Testerman. She died Monday, Sept. 26, 2016 in Sulphur, at the age of 66 years, six months and 23 days. Theresa met her lifetime partner Brenda Casteel in 1970 and they remained together until her passing. Theresa graduated high school in Del City. She later went on to pursue a degree in nursing at the Seminole Junior College. She worked at the Shawnee Health Department, Ardmore Health Department, and retired from Healdton Health Department. Theresa had a passion for shopping, especially for shoes. She enjoyed cooking and was an avid cookbook collector. Theresa loved her pets, past and present. She also loved spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include lifetime partner, Brenda Casteel; three brothers, Patrick Testerman of Shawnee, Wayne Testerman of Oklahoma City and Mike Testerman of Broken Arrow; two sisters, Janice Meyers of Cedar Hills, Texas, and Janet Testerman, of the home; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents. Services are entrusted to Hale’s Funeral Home of Davis.

Houston Ray Orsburn

Houston Ray Orsburn, 78, passed away Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, in Marlow. Services were held Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Duncan with Bishop Tom Cross officiating. Burial was at the Marlow Cemetery under the care of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Service. Houston was born Saturday, May 14, 1938, in Orange County, Calif., to Earl and Ruby Orsburn who were living in the Mojave desert and working in the tungsten mining industry. At age 5, he and his sister Betty Jane were relocated near Gainesville, Texas, cared for and raised by his aunt and uncle, Pearl Faulkner and James Morrow. He attended Callisburg High School. He graduated Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport Iowa. In 1962, he set up Chiropractic practice in Sulphur. In 1968, the Orsburn’s built a custom home in Sulphur located at 1705 14th Street. One of main reasons the Orsburn’s chose to settle in Sulphur was that it was a great place to live and raise children. He loved camping and spending time in Platt National Park, Price’s Falls, and being part of the community. He and his wife Barbara J. Evans and three children lived in Sulphur until 1974. Dr. Orsburn practiced in Altus from 1974 – 1976, and in Lawton until 2012. On April 25, 1985 he married the love of his life, Sharon Smith, in Denton, Texas. Sharon and Doc made their home in Lawton and later moved to Marlow. Houston served his community as a chiropractor for 50 years. In his free time he enjoyed church service, sailing, traveling the country in his RV and spending precious time with family and grandchildren. Survivors include wife, Sharon Orsburn of Marlow; son, Brad Orsburn and wife, Charlie of California; son, Anderson Orsburn of Chicago; son, Scott Miller and wife, Cristi of Ninnekah; and daughter, Joni Lunnen and husband, Jeff of Idaho. Houston was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Blackwell; aunt and uncle who raised him, Mr. and Mrs. Morrow.

Robert Halley “Bob” Walker

Robert Halley “Bob” Walker, passed away on October 7, 2016, at Ardmore, Okla. Graveside services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, October 12th 2016, at Oaklawn Cemetery, Sulphur with The Reverend Dan Patman officiating. Bob was born on May 23, 1928, to Agnew Astley Walker and Mary Frances (White) Walker at Wewoka, Okla. He graduated from Wewoka High School. During World War II, Bob enlisted in the United States Army and served his country as a Medic. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended college on the GI Bill. He earned his Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Oklahoma. In Bob’s early career, he worked as a health inspector of restaurants for the State of Oklahoma. From there he was named as the Director of Nursing Home Inspections for the Oklahoma State Department of Health. A pioneer of modern nursing home design, he built one of the first nursing homes, the Artesian Home, in Sulphur, using his design in 1960. The following year, he built Elmbrook Home in Ardmore and owned and operated both homes until his retirement. Bob was named to the board for the Oklahoma Nursing Home Association and served in that capacity for many years. He enjoyed quail hunting, traveling, playing golf, and was an avid OU fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnew and Mary Frances Walker and one brother, Dr. Tom Walker. Bob is survived by his two sons; Kenneth James Walker, and wife, Deborah, of Ardmore, Okla., and Brent Halley Walker and wife, Connie, of Belgrade, Montana; grandchildren, Erik Walker, of Frisco, Texas, Melissa Sherfield and husband, Cory, of Ardmore, Laurie Paige and husband, Brandt, of Utah; great-grandchildren, Caiden Sherfield, Braxton Sherfield, Hayley Sherfield, all of Ardmore, Okla., and Jaxon Paige of Utah; brother, Dr. John Walker and wife, Wynn, of Amarillo, Texas, and sister in-law, Janice, of Temple, Texas. He is also survived by his loving companion of 27years Mae Rankin of Sulphur.

Helen Marie Bearden

Services for Helen Marie Bearden, 86, Sulphur, were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Calvary Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Bill Leveridge. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur. Born February 15, 1930 in Wilson to Homer and Nora (Williams) Winans, she passed away Friday, Oct. 7 in Sulphur. Helen grew up in the Wilson area, graduating from Zaneis High School. She married Charles E. Bearden on December 30, 1946 in Gainesville, Texas. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2005. She had worked as a CNA at Callaway Nursing Home and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Trudy Knight and Dale of Sulphur and Brenda Hudson and Gary, of Comanche; son and daughter-in-law, Randy Bearden and Jo of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Thelma Kearby of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers were Darin Farrell, Quinton Roller, Brandon Knight, Stacy Knight, Melissa Hulsey, and Corey Swails.

Terrence Edward Hecox

A memorial service for Terrence Edward Hecox, II will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Sulphur Hills Golf Course. Terrence Edward Hecox, II 32, of West Bloomfield, Mich., previously of Sulphur, died Sunday, September 18, 2016, in a motor vehicle accident near his home. Terry was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Terrence and Mary Ann Hecox on August 29, 1984. He was a graduate of Sulphur High School. He was a proud graduate of Oakland Community College with an Associates of Applied Science degree in Robotics/ Automated Systems Technology. He traveled extensively for his career as a programmer and fully enjoyed the variety that this work provided in his life. Terry was preceded in death by his father, Terrence Edward Hecox, his paternal grandfather, John Edward Hecox and his maternal grandparents, John and Jeanette A.W. Karman. He is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Hecox; one sister, Victoria Hecox and one brother, Michael Hecox, Sulphur; aunt, Margaret Butler of Houston, Texas, aunt and uncle, Robert and Charlene Severence, of Bastrop, Texas and his uncle, Charles Homan of Blanco, Texas. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Daniel and Terresa Gilin and their two children, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, as well as many cousins and extended family members. With special love and thought it is mentioned the many friends, the friends of his relatives and co-workers who thought of Terry as a member of their own families and have expressed their love and grief through countless thoughtful acts. We are forever grateful. Ter-bear you were loved more than you will ever know. Geloria Estell Low

Funeral services for Geloria Estell Low will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, Oct. 31, 2016 at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis with Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill cemetery under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Davis. Estell was born Sept 11, 1923 in rural Pottawatomie County, OK to the late Roy & Anne Mae (Stone) Hale. She died Sunday, Oct 23, 2016 in Stillwater, OK, at the age of 93. Estell and James C. Low were married on Nov. 27, 1939 in Marietta, OK. He preceded her in death on Apr. 14, 2011. Estell spent the earlier years of her life working in her family’s businesses, which included Hale’s Dry Good Store of Wynnewood and Sulphur, OK, Jim’s Coral Restaurant, Chickasha, OK, and the family farm/dairy in Sulphur, OK. She also worked as a lifeguard and taught lifeguard training. In her spare time, Estell enjoyed fishing, painting, traveling and baking & decorating cakes. She taught cake decorating classes at BPRD in 1965 and 1966. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter Geloria Anne Cranch & husband Edro of Reno, NV; two sons, Gene Royce Low & wife Rose of Barstow, CA and Darrell Wayne Low & wife Michele of Pawnee, OK; nine grandchildren, Brian King, Addie Ebersohl, Jamie Galvan, Anna Martin, Glenn Low, Tim Low, Michelle Martinez, Valerie Low and Jenifer Low; 15 great-grandchildren; as well as, one brother, Ray Hale and wife Kay of Marlow, OK; and sister-in-law Alleda Hale of Linden, CA. In addition to her parents and husband, Estell was preceded in death by one daughter, Norma Lee King; one granddaughter, Darlene Cranch; and two brothers, Odell Hale and Leroy Hale.
