Gary Dean Gage

Services for Gary Dean Gage, 65, Sulphur, will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, at the Sulphur Veteran’s Center Chapel with Chaplain Gary Akerman officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur. Gary was born August 5, 1950 in Wynnewood, to the late Henry Warren and Mary Ann (Springer) Gage. He died Thursday, March 3, in Sulphur Gary and the former Kathy Billington were married on March 28, 1995 in Ada. He grew up in the Wynnewood/Paul's Valley area and attended Paul's Valley High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Gary spent 16 years working as a custodian at the Sulphur Veteran’s Center, prior to retiring Oct 1, 2012. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Kathy; daughter, Dawnnea Jones and husband, Shiloh, Sulphur; two step-sons, Dustin Woodruff and Bradley Woodruff and wife, Sierra, both of Sulphur; six grandchildren; one sister, Jene Davis and husband, Dave, Paul's Valley and one brother, Noble Gage and wife, Imojene, Helina. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Campbell and Linnie Reynolds and three brothers, Leroy, Johnny and Gene Gage.

Edna Sue (Cox) Muck

Services for Mrs. Edna Sue (Cox) Muck, 85, Ada, will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31, at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Ada with Pastor Earl Hood officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Born June 8, 1930 in Silo to Nannie L. and Dewey D. Cox, she passed away Friday, March 25 in Ada. Sue has been a longtime Ada resident. She and the late Homer E. Muck Jr. were married October 18, 1946 in Ada. Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Betty Sue Atwood; one brother, Dewayne (Sonny Boy) Cox and two infant grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Tucker, Ada; one son, Larry Muck and wife, Eva, Sulphur; six grandchildren, Shane McDonald and wife, Laura, Stratford, Shandy Ward and husband, Brandon, Stratford, Angela Jackson and husband, Shane, Stuart, Joey Muck and wife, Shannon, Sulphur, Melissa Ratchford and husband, Shawn, Sulphur and Lori Owens and husband, Trey, Midlothian, Texas; 15 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Eudene Hearndon of Ocala, Fla. and a host of extended family, longtime friends and neighbors. The family will be receiving friends and family for visitation on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home.

Luther Edward Hutchins

Luther Edward Hutchins, 86, Davis was born December 19, 1929 in Bernice, Oklahoma to James Edward Truston Hutchins and Viola (Sweetwater) Hutchins. He passed away Monday, March 21 in Davis He married Shirley Janice (Meier) Hutchins in Hitchcock, Okla., in 1954. She preceded him in death December 7, 1983. He grew up in Grove and graduated from Grove High School. Luther moved to Sulphur in 1968 and to Davis in 1983. He served in the U.S. Army and later worked in construction as a manager. He was also preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Jamie Hutchins. He is survived by one daughter, Jana Hutchins, Norman; two grandsons, Graham Brewer and Wills Brewer; one great grandson, Micah Brewer and two sisters, Carol Graham and Kathryn Bryant. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur.

Herbert Clay Barnes

Graveside services for Herbert Clay Barnes, 87, Ada, were held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 26 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur. Arrangements were under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur. Interment followed in Oaklawn Cemetery. Born March 2, 1929 in Gilsonite, Oklahoma to James and Lucy (Ferguson) Barnes, he passed away Wednesday, March 23 in Ada He married Patricia Audette (Luna) Barnes in Sulphur on March 13, 1950. He had lived in this area all of his life, graduating from Sulphur High School. After graduation he worked in the oilfield as a roughneck before working at Dolese for 25 years. He later worked as a security guard for Haliburton. He was preceded in death by Audette, his loving wife of 59 years, his parents; a son, Allen Ray Barnes; a brother, Houston Barnes and a sister, Rosa Beauchamp. Although he dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them special life lessons, he really looked forward to being reunited with Audette. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Ann Scott and John A., of Tulsa; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley Barnes and Sherry, of Ada; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and three nephews. Pallbearers were Marlin Luna, Perry Luna, Michael Barnes, Shane Barnes, John Scott, and Aaron Burrows. Memorials may be made to Ada First Baptist Church Falls Creek Cabin Fund, 521 S. Broadway Ave, Ada, OK 74820.

Alexander Lewis

Services for Alexander Lewis, 71, were held 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 25, at the Hale’s Memorial Chapel of Sulphur with Steve Wall officiating. Interment followed at the Salem Presbyterian Cemetery, north of Sulphur under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur. Alexander was born September 8, 1944 in Oklahoma City to the late Winfred and Elsie Mae (Williamson) Lewis. He died Tuesday, March 22, in Tishomingo. Alexander grew up in Sulphur where he attended school and later served in the U.S. Army. He attended college and welding trade school prior to his retirement in 2000. Alexander enjoyed spending time drawing and reading. Survivors include two daughters, Cynde Lewis, Davis and Angie Morris, Ada; three sons, Alex Lewis, Norman, Ben Lewis, Sulphur and Scott Lawrence and wife Trista, Sulphur; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Regina Lopez, Sulphur and Zelma Lanter, Davis and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Alexander was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Vera Kemp, Louetta Faye Foreman and Rowena Huff and two brothers, Javine Lewis and Jerry Lewis.

Jack Hunt

Services for Jack Hunt will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Sulphur with his granddaughter, Chelcie Hunt and Pastor Harold Hunt officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur. Jack was born March 7, 1937 in Kansas City, Mo., to the late Fred and Carrie (Paingburn) Hunt. He died Sunday, March 27, 2016 in Ardmore, at the age of 79. Throughout his youth, Jack lived in several towns including Granite and McAlester, prior to returning to Sulphur. After graduating from Sulphur High School in 1955, he served in the U.S. Army, prior to working with the U.S. Forestry Service as a Fire Watchman. Jack later returned to the Sulphur area and worked as a pump mechanic for the Kerr-McGee Refinery in Wynnewood, retiring in 2002 after 39 years. Jack had a passion for firefighting, which led him to serve 26 years as a volunteer with the Sulphur Fire Dept. Until failing health prevented him, even after retiring, Jack still spent many hours at the fire station, assisting any way he could, bringing donuts for the firemen or just making sure he knew what was going on with the local fire service. He considered his fellow firemen as his family, enjoying his time with each of them. Survivors include two sons, Fred Hunt and wife, Brenna of Sulphur and Jack Hunt and Stachia of Davis; four grandchildren, Chelcie, Lauren, Tanner and Tyler Hunt; one sister, Carolyn Hunt-Sparks and husband, John of Sulphur; one niece, Carolyn Sparks and one nephew, John Sparks. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Ann Hunt. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sulphur Fire Department, both current and retired.

Rocky Dean Schultz

A celebration of life memorial for Rocky Dean Schultz, 64, Sulphur, is planned for Sunday, May 1 at the entrance to Chickasaw National Recreation Area (West 12th Street entrance). Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial, set from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Rocky died February 22, 2016 in Oklahoma City due to complications from an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Karine Carter Schultz, of the home; one daughter, Rhianna Lindsey and husband, Brad; two grandsons; his mother, Lawanda Wilkins, Denver, Colo.; sister, Linda Lemons and husband, Ray, Denver, Colo. and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Schultz. Rocky was born December 19, 1951 to Leon Schultz and Lawanda Schultz Wilkins in Sulphur. He graduated from Sulphur High School in 1970 and the graduated from the Okmulgee Culinary School, becoming a certified chef. He accepted a position at the Eagles Nest in the Oklahoma State Capitol where he was lead chef for six year. He returned to the Sulphur area and worked at several restaurants. Rocky was a great family man and loving father. He married Carolyn Karine Carter on August 20, 1985. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with family and friends. He will always be remembered as a dedicated husband and loyal friend.

Roland R. Bumpus

Graveside services were held Monday, April 11, 2016, 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary’s cemetery with Father Thomas Dowdell officiating. Roland R. Bumpus (aka Bud, Tony, Papa) died on April 7, 2016 at the age of 94 after a long life and many glazed donuts consumed. He was a recent resident of Oklahoma City and Claremore; however, lived the last 46 years of his life in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He was born in Cheyenne, Oklahoma to Agnes and LeRoy Bumpus (Gran and Potty), the second son of seven children. He traveled to California after his high school graduation and during his employment there, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943. Following his combat service in World War II, he attended Oklahoma A&M University. While working in Kansas City, he met and married Nova Don Bausch in June of 1952. They had five children. After several career changes, he spent most of his working life farming in southern Oklahoma. He was blessed to have 10 grandchildren and became their Papa. Years later, he became a great-grandfather to five. He was predeceased by his mother, father, and three of his brothers, LeRoy, John, and Dickie. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Nova Don (Donie); his sisters Jeanne O’Connor and Joanne McCormick, and his brother Frank Bumpus, his wife Glenda; son Michael Bumpus, his wife Helen; daughter Anna Heaney, her husband Ray; daughter Lisa Bumpus; son Patrick Bumpus, his wife Laurel; daughter Sandra McGehee; along with his grandchildren, Kara Dunleavy, her husband Kevin; Erin Bailey, her husband Brian; Katy and Mica Bumpus; Tim and Jeff Wohlgemuth, their wives Jessika and Candida; Tanner and Emily McGehee; and Chris and Alex Bumpus; and five great grandchildren; Bridget, Rory, Esry, Eamon, and Olive. One of his greatest goals in his life was being a “good provider” in setting up his family for success. We, his family, strongly believe he accomplished this goal to the fullest. May he finally rest in peace and comfort with the Lord Our Savior.
