D.B. Benson
MONROE — D.B. Benson, 82, of Monroe died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, in Poteau. He was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Hartford. He was a timberman and a veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was known as “The Mountain Man.”
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Howe Cemetery in Howe under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by a sister, Dena Stacy of Shady Point; and three brothers, Delmer Benson of Heavener, James Benson of Hodgen and J.C. Benson of Howe.
Alex Buckner
KEOTA — Alex “Uncle” Buckner, 84, of Keota died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, in Keota.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Saving Grace Non Denominational Church in Keota with burial at Tamaha Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Jimmie; three daughters, Phyllis Atkinson of Cassville, Mo., Patricia Lewis of Poteau and Carolyn Andrews of Stigler; five sons, Charlie, Clint and Tommy Buckner, all of Keota, Elmer Buckner of Stigler and David Buckner of Enterprise; a sister, Lee Timmons of Keota; 30 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brian Atkinson, Tommy Buckner II, Chris, Michael and Timmy Buckner, Dale Lewis, Dustin Carey and Josh Self.
Lloyd Hoover
HEAVENER — Lloyd Hoover, 91, if Heavener died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, in Waldron. He was a World War II veteran and a member of Howe Assembly of God.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial at Memorial Park in Heavener.
He is survived by his wife, Annie; one sister; and one brother.
Darlene Proschold
WISTER — Darlene Wheat Proschold, 89, of Wister died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, in Poteau. She was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Addison, Okla. She was a Baptist, a homemaker and the widow of Mervin Proschold.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Leflore Cemetery in Leflore under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
Charles Omer Clark
Charles Omer Clark, of Moore, Okla., born to Omer and Jesse Clark in Stapp, Okla., on April 2, 1926, went to join his Lord on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005. His parents and oldest son, Corby Omer Clark, and his brother, Marshall, preceded him in death. He was educated at the Stapp-Zoe Consolidated School and Heavener High School. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1944 and retired from the Air Force as a senior master sergeant in October 1967.
He leaves behind his wife, Evelyn Uzzel Clark; a son, Dane of Moore, Okla.; his grandson, Curran; also two sisters, Jean Estes and husband Jim of Poteau, and Jonell Hinderbrand and husband Sonny of Grove, Okla.; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Kirkes and Phyllis Whitworth and her husband Ed, all of Red Oak. He also leaves behind an enormous empty space in the hearts of his friends and family.
Memorial services will be held at the Stapp-Zoe Baptist Church south of Hodgens on Friday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m.
Flowers should be delivered to Poteau Health Foods, 2409 N. Broadway, Poteau, OK 74953, and will be transported by the family to the memorial service. For those who prefer, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Zoe Cemetery Fund, First National Bank, P.O. Box 68, Heavener, OK 74937.
Ewell Hershel Hardin
Ewell Hershel Hardin, 97, of Muldrow passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, in Fort Smith. He is a member of the Protestant faith, former Master Mason of Belle Point Lodge No. 20, and a retired barber from the Olde Town Barbershop in Fort Smith. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; and one son, Paul Hardin.
Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Fentress Mortuary chapel with burial at Muldrow Memory Gardens under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
Mr. Hardin is survived by one sister, Juanita Roberts of Russellville; one brother, T.J. Hardin of Russellville; one grandchild, Dino Hardin; two stepgrandchildren, Kelly Carroll Sypert and Kim Carroll of Van Buren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fentress Mortuary.
Edith Kannady
POTEAU — Edith Lucille Kannady, 81, of Poteau, formerly of Heavener, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, in Poteau. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Poteau and the widow of Loyd Kannady.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Southside Baptist Church in Poteau with burial at Hontubby Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by two daughters, Frankie Taylor of Talihina and Dianna Eshelman of Houston; two sisters, Imogene of California and Billie Owens of Oregon; two brothers, Jack Metcalf of California and Eugene Metcalf of Texas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Children’s Home in Oklahoma City; or MD Anderson Hospital.
Troy Clark
SPIRO — Troy Lee Clark, 55, of Spiro died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, in Spiro. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the VFW and DAV.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro with burial at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro.
He is survived by a daughter, Kelly McGee of Poteau; a sister, Dottie Thomas of Spiro; two brothers, Billy and John Clark, both of Spiro; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brandon and Dustin Clark, Doyal Akers, Troy and Steve Thomas, Tommy Eacret and Royce McGee.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Vera Gray
GANS — Vera L. Gray, 87, of Gans died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in Gans. She was born July 5, 1917, in Altus, Okla. She was a homemaker, a Jehovah’s Witness and the widow of Osbon Cribbs and Marvin Gray.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Sallisaw. Burial was Thursday at Altus Cemetery in Altus, Okla., under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by three sons, John Cribbs of Forest Ranch, Calif., Larry Cribbs of Gans and Dusty Cribbs of Elverta, Calif.; a sister, Jewell Frank of Seymour, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Laney Ivy
SPIRO — Laney D. Ivy, 76, of Spiro died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, in a Spiro nursing home. He was born March 12, 1928, in McCurtain, Okla. He was a mechanic and the widower of Beulah Ivy.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cowlington Cemetery in Cowlington under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by four children, Gail Martin of Olive Branch, Miss., Margie Ivy-Foray of Tulsa and Nettie Thomas and Junior Ivy, both of Spiro; three stepdaughters, Sue Davis of Spiro, Aline McFadden of Paris and Margaret Buckner of Spiro; three brothers, Henry Ivy of Kenny Lind, James Ivy of Muldrow and Donnie Ivy of Poteau; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
David Dorsey
POTEAU — David Dorsey, 66, of Poteau died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, in Poteau. He was born Nov. 15, 1938, in Heavener. He was a truck driver and an Army veteran.
No service is scheduled at this time.
He is survived by a sister, Gayle James of Norman, Okla.

Lee Otto
POTEAU — Lee M. Otto, 78, of Poteau died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Boiling Springs, Pa. He was a Realtor and the former owner and founder of Business Trust Note Exchange in Washington, D.C., a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Poteau.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Southside Baptist Church in Poteau with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; two daughters, Kathy Hope-Inglis of Jupiter, Fla., and Rita Solt of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Marie Miller and Helen Snedeker, both of Florida; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Joe Gallegly
CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. — Joe Gallegly, 43, of Crawfordville, Fla., formerly of Heavener, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, in Crawfordville. He was a 1979 Heavener graduate.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener.
He is survived by his wife, Terri; two daughters, Amanda Garrett of Louisiana and Nicole Gallegly of Crawfordville, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Terena Bradley and Melissa Brown, both of Crawfordville, Fla.; stepmother, Bobbie Gallegly of Oklahoma; three sisters, Gayla Espiritu of Georgia, Melissa Christman of Oklahoma, and Lalona Hendrickson of Missouri; and two brothers, Mark of Oklahoma and Jay of Fort Smith.
Joyce Ford
POTEAU — Joyce Louise Ford, 65, of Poteau died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Poteau. She was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Tulsa. She was a special education teacher.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau.
She is survived by a daughter, Coni McCarver of Poteau; a son, Shawn Barney of Dundee, Ore.; her mother, Geraldine Inman of Medford, Ore.; two brothers, Jerry Inman of Bend, Ore., and John Inman of Sheridan, Ore.; and two grandchildren.
Edwina Miller
MULDROW — Edwina G. Miller, 64, of Muldrow died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was born Dec. 23, 1940, in Webbers Falls, Okla. She was a retired teacher for Gans School System.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Heavener with burial at Heavener Memorial Cemetery in Heavener under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by her husband, Lester; a daughter, Laura Callison of Lakeside, Calif.; two sons, Mark Miller of Heavener and Heath Miller of Richardson, Texas; two sisters, Francis Johnson of Fort Gibson, Okla., and Joan Roye of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Cauthen, Terry Riggs, Donnie and Jonathan Alls, Mike Johnson and James Williams.
Faye Jones
TALALA, Okla. — Faye McClain Jones, 74, of Talaha, Okla., died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, in Talaha. She was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Jenny Lind. She was a homemaker.
Funeral was held Tuesday at Collinsville Reynolds Funeral Service in Collinsville, Okla., with burial at Oakhill Cemetery in Mannford, Okla.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest; three daughters, Kelli Hall, Kathy Patton and Sue Hines; a son, Larry Jones; her mother, Lona McClain of Fort Smith; a brother, Bob McClain; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
