Annie Mae Culverson Sockey
Annie Mae Culverson Sockey, 85, of Arkoma died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Arkoma Assembly of God and a loving mother and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Culverson. They were married on Dec. 24, 1936, in Fort Smith. She was also preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Harrison of Arkoma, JoAnn Unruh of Arkoma and Reba Culverson of Lawton, Okla.; one brother, Bruce Freeman of Van Buren; five grandchildren, Jerry Unruh, Diana Blanscet, Rodney and Scotty Hutcheson and Debbie Tate; seven great-grandchildren, Brooke, Dustin and Todd Blanscet, Rosalyn and Karsten Hutcheson and Amy and Jesse Copeland; and two great-great-grandchildren, Trista Ford and Jesse Copeland Jr.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Arkoma Assembly of God conducted by the Rev. Roger D. Myers and the Rev. Rodney Hutcheson, with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Unruh, Harold Blanscet, Roy and Mike Culverson, Paul Jacob, Paul Richard Jacob and Gerald Snow.

Watie Lee Fine
Watie Lee Fine passed this life on Dec. 17, 2004. Mr. Fine, formerly of Sallisaw, died at his home in Fort Smith in the presence of his family. He attained the age of 91 years.
Mr. Fine was born in the Akins community one mile north of Sallisaw on July 13, 1913, to David and Eva Mae Fine. He had one sister, Georgia. They have preceded him in death. He spent most of his life in Sequoyah County. His desire for and his ability to obtain an education in spite of his economic hardships was monumental to those who knew him. He graduated from Connors State College in Warner and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah in 1935. He retired after 41 years of service in education.
As an educator, Mr. Fine’s philosophy of teaching was strong. “I have always felt as if I were a part of the life of every individual under my supervision, so I tried to do what was right and set a moral example for my students.” This philosophy carried over into his family life, as his greatest ability was to be a wonderful father and a loving husband to his wife. Mr. Fine will long be remembered for his spirit for hard work, his integrity, his love of people and his most commonly used words, “Thank you!”
He is survived by his wife, Rubye Fine of Fort Smith; two sons, Dr. Gary Fine and his wife Nancy of Fort Smith and Michael Fine and his wife Kathy of Edmond, Okla.; and three daughters, Geraldine Dixon and her husband Richard of Tulsa, and Vickie Cantrell and her husband Gary, and Jean Whitaker, all of Sallisaw. His grandchildren are William Dixon and his wife Jackie of Tulsa, Shelly Kantola and her husband Dr. Ron Kantola of Chicago, Lts. Jamie Horning and her husband Brad of Bahrain, Jeff, Chris and Kimberly Fine, all of Edmond, Keli Ward of Dallas, Nick Carter and his wife Betty of Greenbriar, Tenn., Melody Smith and her husband Brent of Sallisaw; one great-grandson, Austin Stanhope of Sallisaw; and one great-granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Kantola of Chicago.
Funeral service will be held at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw at 2 p.m. Tuesday with interment at Sallisaw City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Lydia Green
MUSE, Okla. — Lydia Kathryn Green, 61, of Muse died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, in her home. She was born Jan. 13, 1943, in Houston. She worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield and as a restaurant manager.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Green Family Cemetery in Muse under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by her husband, Greg; a daughter, Misty Brown of Grapeland, Texas; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gary Pointer, Jim Freeman, Curtis Green, Jim Fite, Bob Cruse and Kenn Brown.
Ona Miller
WISTER — Ona E. Miller, 91, of Wister died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, in Poteau. She was born Aug. 13, 1913, in Holsum Creek, Okla. She was a retired schoolteacher of 35 years. She worked as a nurse’s aide, welded in a shipyard and taught in California. In Oklahoma, she taught at Lone Pine, Leflore, Summerfield and other places. She was an English teacher at Leflore High School. She was a member of the Busy Bee Quilting Club in Summerfield. She was the widow of R.W. Miller.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Summerfield with burial at Summerfield Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by a son, John Miller of Tahlequah, Okla.; a sister, Reatha Nowlin of Summerfield; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Cecil Wallace
QUINTON, Okla. — Cecil Wallace, 93, of Quinton died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, in Stigler, Okla. He was the widower of Jessie Wallace.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Featherston Baptist Church in Featherston, Okla., with burial at Featherston Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Cloud of Stigler; two sisters, Tressa Noble of Blocker and Ellen Ogden of Quinton; a brother, W.C. Wallace of Haywood, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be nephews Glenn and Wayne Ogden, Johnny and Roger Gibson, Curt Wallace and James Brunson.

Lanai Mayo
SALLISAW — Lanai Beth Mayo, 55, of Sallisaw died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was born Sept. 24, 1949, in Tulsa. She worked for Western Sizzlin in food preparation and was a Protestant.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Akins Cemetery Gazebo near Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by three daughters, Carrie England of Vian and Terri Tietgens and Lori Dotson, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; her mother, Wanda Hoyle of Sallisaw; a brother, Steve Fraiser of Jenks, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mike and Brandon Crowder, William and Anthony England, Craig Brown and Larry Bailey. The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.
Maxine Burns
SALLISAW — Maxine B. Burns, 73, of Sallisaw died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, in Jenks. She was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Sallisaw. She worked at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital for 25 years and was a member of Calvary Temple Church. She was the widow of James Burns.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Burns of Ketchum, Okla., and Linda McCain of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a son, Steve Burns of Winslow; a sister, Margie Ellis of Sallisaw; a brother, Melvin Blaylock of California; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bob Jamison, Dwight and Destry Graham, Ronnie Long and D.C. Keith.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Jane Ross
MCLOUD, Okla. — Jane Ross, 51, of McLoud, Okla., formerly of Keota, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, in McLoud. She was a homemaker and of the Christian faith.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Keota with burial at Old Bokoshe Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Stigler.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Amy Ross of Jenks, Okla.; a son, Gregg Ross of McLoud, Okla.; her parents, Irene and Chester Jones of Keota; two sisters, Lois Flippin of Owasso, Okla., and Annette Brown of Shawnee, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Michael Trevino, Gary and Charles Ross, Kevin Flippin, Jerry Smith and Paul Jennings.

Herman Roberts
Herman A. Roberts, 73, of Muldrow died Thursday, Dec. 16. 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired supervisor of shipping and receiving for Baldor, a member of the Bruton Lodge No. 30 in Muldrow and attended the Nazarene Church.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at the Nazarene Church of Muldrow with Masonic graveside service at Muldrow Memorial Gardens under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; a sister, Corda Merrill of Muldrow; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gene Fugett, Leonard Mader, Michael Smith, Danny Morgan, Vyrl Anderson, Richard McGehee and Ronnie Marr. Honorary pallbearers will be the Masons of Bruton Lodge No. 30.

Eddie Dewitt
STIGLER — Eddie L. Dewitt, 72, of Stigler died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, in Stigler. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Short Mountain Cemetery in Cowlington under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by two sons, Terry and Shaun Dewitt; several sisters and brothers.
J.V. Jones
Funeral for J.V. Jones, 81, of Lawton will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Assembly of God with the Rev. Don Barnes, pastor, officiating.
Mr. Jones died Saturday.
Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Becker Funeral Home of Lawton, Okla.
He was born July 15, 1923, in Booth to John Franklin and Rachel Hudspeth Jones. He graduated from high school in Mansfield, where he played football. He married Syble Davis on June 13, 1941, in Fort Smith. She died in 1996. Mr. Jones was an insurance executive for many years and then worked part time in the Putnam City High School cafeteria in Oklahoma City until 2002. He was a member of First Assembly of God.
Survivors include three children, Patricia Dickerson and her husband Al of Whitney, Texas; Verdell Jones and his wife Lue Ann of Houston, and Linda Barnes and her husband, the Rev. Don Barnes of Lawton; a sister, Mildred Stevens of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren, Tammy Salles and her husband George, Jeffrey Thomas and his wife Sarah, Kyle Jones, Ginger Wiggins and her husband Duane, Amanda Jones, and Heather and Brent Barnes; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Inez Slater
WALDRON — Inez Slater, 85, of Waldron died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in a Waldron hospital. She was a homemaker, a member of Parks Baptist Church and the widow of Bruce Slater.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Hawkins Cemetery near Parks.
She is survived by a sister, Vern Isom of Waldron.
Pallbearers will be Henry Thompson, Billy and Thurman Franklin, Dalton Hawkins and Bob and Joe Everly.
The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Orvil Walton
SALLISAW — Orvil D. Walton, 63, of Sallisaw died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in Sallisaw. He was born Feb. 23, 1941, in Keota, Okla. He was a retired welder for Vent Air Corp. in Tulsa and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. He was the widower of Barbara Walton.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City Cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Debra Mendenhall of Bixby, Okla.; three sons, Dewayne Walton of Glenpool, Okla., and Scotty and James Walton, both of Sallisaw; a sister, Jerry Sallee of Sallisaw; three brothers, Dub, U.L. and Homer Walton, all of Sallisaw; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Shan Whitlow, Page Weatherly, Albert Sallee, Jerry Christian, Kenneth Hurst and Keith Miller.
