Rev. Raymond Hunter
SALLISAW — The Rev. Raymond Hunter, 80, of Sallisaw died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in Sallisaw. He was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Urbana, Ohio. He served as a jail minister and had been a pastor and minister for more than 50 years all over the United States. He was of the Apostolic faith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Agent Funeral Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Westville City Cemetery in Westville, Okla.
He is survived by his wife, Freda; a daughter, Rebecca Allen of Simms, Texas; a son, the Rev. Dale Hunter of Lakeport, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Paul, Arbrie, Wilbur, William and Joel Farris and Tommy Downing.
Ruth Greenfield
SALLISAW — Ruth Greenfield, 82, of Sallisaw died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, in Oklahoma City. She was born May 11, 1922, in Sallisaw. She was a hairdresser, owner and operator of Ruth’s Cut & Curl in Sallisaw, a Protestant, and a former checker for Marvin’s IGA in Sallisaw.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Plunkett of Marietta, Okla., and Martha Cardin of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Louis Manning
SPIRO — Louis Earl Manning, 74, of Spiro died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, in Spiro. He was born April 17, 1930, in Spiro. He was a mechanic, a construction worker and a veteran of the Korean War.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Triumph Baptist Church with burial at Fort Coffee Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Pocola.
He is survived by two daughters, Yulanda Manning of Michigan and Jan Lewis of Texas; four sons, Calvin Manning of Florida, Lonnie and Rodney Manning, both of Michigan, and David Manning of California; his mother, Evelyn Steele of the home; a stepdaughter, Sylvia Moore of Illinois; four sisters, Aletria Proctor of South Carolina, Earnest Abdullah and Lesley Dugan, both of Fort Coffee, Okla., and Mareen Evan of California; two brothers, Chester Steele and Ernest Steele Jr. of Fort Coffee; and nine grandchildren.
Ilene Walters
TULSA — M. Ilene Walters, 75, of Tulsa died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in Norman, Okla. She was a salesperson for Grigsby Carpet before retirement.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler, Okla., with burial at Keota City Cemetery in Keota, Okla.
She is survived by two sisters, Thelma Hill of Oklahoma City and Amy Smith of Keota; and a brother, B.F. Walters of Webbers Falls, Okla.
Pallbearers will be David Short, Rodney, Joe and Mark Smith.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.
Robert E. Powell
Robert E. Powell, 39, of Kibler died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 4, 1965, in Van Buren. He attended God’s Harvest Church in Alma and was a former employee of Farmers Co-op.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma. Cremation under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Powell of the home; four daughters, Debbie Vargas of Ozark, Miranda DeLeon of Van Buren, Tasha Powell of Alma and Robin Powell of the home; four stepdaughters, Brittany and Olivia Powell, both of the home, Stephanie Mills of Alma, and Amy Parchcorn of Barling; his mother, Maxine Powell of Ozark; a sister, Becky Powell of Van Buren; five brothers, Richard and Shawn Powell, both of Van Buren, Clint and Ricky Powell, both of Oklahoma, and Danny Powell of Ozark; two grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Frank Vargas, Homer DeLeon, and Dustin, Brant, Derrick and Devin Powell.
Mary Herndon
SALLISAW — Mary Francis Herndon, 72, of Sallisaw died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was born Sept. 25, 1931, in Houston. She was a homemaker, a self-employed beautician, a member of Church of Christ and Sequoyah County Extension Homemakers, and a volunteer for the American Heart Association.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Church of Christ in Sallisaw with burial at Wanette Cemetery in Wanette, Okla., under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Herndon Sr.; two daughters, Deborah Phillips and Pam Coleman, both of Sallisaw; three sons, Dr. Jim Herndon Jr. of Sallisaw, Danny Herndon of Muskogee, Okla., and Dr. Mike Herndon of Edmund, Okla.; her mother, Ruth Wisdom of Sallisaw; two brothers, Tom Wisdom of Dallas and Reece Wisdom of Houston; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons-in-law.
Clara Crandell
POTEAU — Clara Aline Crandell, 88, of Poteau died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004. She was born Dec. 17, 1915, in Poteau. She was the widow of Charles Crandell.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau.
She is survived by three daughters, Emma Burch of Fort Worth, Texas, Julia Tackett of Albion, Mich., and Pat Moore of Cameron; three sons, Bob and Larry Crandell, both of Poteau, and Donald Crandell of Moore, Okla.; a sister, Laura Prmrose of Tulsa; 27 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Nilah Wright
POTEAU — Nilah Marlene Wright, 69, of Poteau died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, in Poteau. She was born Sept. 11, 1935, in Locksburg. She was co-owner of the New York Clothing Store in Poteau for 27 years and a member of First United Methodist Church in Poteau.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Poteau. The body will be cremated under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy; a daughter, Julie Wright of Norman, Okla.; a son, Donald Wright; and a brother, Raymond Tollett of Texarkana.
Beulah “Boo” Jones
Beulah “Boo” Jones, 79, of Arkoma died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a retired housekeeper at Sparks Regional Medical Center and was preceded in death by her husband, Arley, of 58 years of marriage.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Living Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial of ashes at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by three sons, Allen Ray Jones and Dennis Jones, both of Arkoma, and Tom Jones of Ozark; one sister, Hazel Cameron of Greenwood; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Ida Scroggins
POTEAU — Ida Mae Scroggins, 93, of Poteau died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in Poteau. She was born Jan. 14, 1911, in Russellville. She was a homemaker, a member of Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church and the Women’s Auxiliary, and the widow of Roy Scroggins.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church in Poteau with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by five daughters, Janie Fox of Panama, Melba Hall of Poteau, Fran Harber of Eufaula, Okla., Jean Robertson of Oklahoma City, and Nancy Mayberry of Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Jim Scroggins of Shady Point; a sister, Jean Gause of LaCrosse, Fla.; two brothers, George and L.D. Brookover, both of Taft, Calif.; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, David Harber, Gerald and Nathan Fox, Larry, Roy and Ricky Wann.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Joe Burt
KEOTA, Okla. — Joe Lee Burt, 74, of Keota died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Stigler, Okla. He was a welder and a member of the Local No. 351 Pipe Fitters of Muskogee, Okla.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Assembly of God in Keota with burial at Miners Cemetery in McCurtain, Okla., under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by a daughter, Margaret Gabbard of Milton; four sons, Teddy, Ronnie and David Burt, all of Keota, and Claud Burt of McCurtain; a sister, Barbara Cochran of Fort Smith; a brother, Willie Burt of Fort Smith; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Keota.
Edward Junior Allison
Edward Junior Allison, 78, of Pocola died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, in his home. He was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Short, Okla., was retired from Baldor Electric and a member of Pocola Christian Fellowship Assembly of God.
Funeral was Saturday at Pocola Christian Fellowship with burial at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy of the home; one daughter, Kimberly and husband Geoffrey Brannon of Pocola; and one grandchild, Allison Nicole White.
Pallbearers were Dan Carter, Bill Nelke, George A. Davis, Sonny Swink, Jay Winters and Leon Whitlock.
Phil Rhodes
SALLISAW — Phil Rhodes, 57, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, in Sallisaw. He was born Aug. 18, 1947, in Fort Smith. He was a construction worker and a Baptist.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Muldrow with burial at Maple Cemetery northwest of Muldrow.
He is survived by two sons, Tony and Randy Rhodes, both of Lancaster, Calif.; five brothers, Tom, Joe and Mark Rhodes, all of Sallisaw, Mike Rhodes of Muldrow and Regie Rhodes of Moses Lake, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Eudena Bowman
POTEAU — Eudena Bowman, 90, of Poteau died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Poteau. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended the First Assembly of God in Poteau. She was the widow of Elzie Bowman.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Assembly of God in Poteau with burial at Howe Cemetery in Howe under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by three sisters, Lyndal, Nora and Beulah; three brothers, Anson, Arlin and Dennis; three sons, Ed, Jim and Harvey, all of Poteau; a sister, Lona Bowman of Heavener; a brother, Gene Stacy of Howe; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Jessie Lessley
MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Jessie Avis Lessley, 89, of Muskogee, formerly of Sallisaw, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, in Muskogee. She was born Jan. 7, 1915, in the Maple community in Oklahoma. She was a sales clerk for J.C. Penney and a Baptist.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Akins Cemetery northeast of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by a daughter, Pat Pulliam of Lake Tenkiller, Okla.; a son, Paul Lessley of Lake Tenkiller; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
