Walter Benton
PORUM, Okla. — Walter E. Benton, 85, of Porum, Okla. died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in Stigler. He served in the Army during World War II, was retired from Starks Nursery and the widower of Ellouise Benton.
Funeral will be 10 .m. Monday at Assembly of God in Porum with burial at Fields Cemetery in Porum under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by two daughters, Lela Pitts of Porum, Okla., and Pam McNeely of Tulsa; a sister, Ida Ross of Porum, Okla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Loyd and Dino Benton, Gary McNeely, James and Jessie Wright and Art Hood.
Mary Louise Bridgers
Mary Louise Bridgers, 83, formerly of Fort Smith, entered into rest Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Waynesville, N.C. She was born Oct. 23, 1920, in Westville, Okla. Mary was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Builders Sunday school class and J.O.Y. Group and a 1938 graduate of McAlester High School. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jasper Bridgers. She is survived by one son, Ben Bridgers and wife Sue Ellen of Sylva, N.C.; daughter, Leak Baker and husband Steve of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Viola Adams of McAlester, Okla., and Lela Pykiet of Harper, Kan.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Chambers, Bennett Moss, Sean Bridgers, Jonathan and Marcy Baker and Scott Burton; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church with burial at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Smith, Ken Pykiet, Steve Baker, Ray Burris and Scott Burton.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Viewing will be 9 a.m. today.

Helen Yarbrough
Helen Yarbrough, 90, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, in a local hospital. She was born May 6, 1914, in Muskogee, Okla. She was a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist Church, the Stephens Society at First Gleaners Sunday school of First United Methodist Church.
Memorial service was held Thursday at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Meadows of Bellville, Texas; a sister, Lucille Cox of Sedona, Ariz.; a brother, C.A. Overstreet Jr. of Keota; and two grandchildren.

Kenney Toon
SMITHVILLE, Okla. — Kenney Arlen Toon, 37, of Smithville, Okla. died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004. He was born March 15, 1967, in DeQueen. He was a logger and a member of Octavia Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Octavia Baptist Church with burial at Watson Cemetery in Watson, Okla., under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He survived by his wife, Debbie; two sons, Dustin and Keaton Toon, both of Smithville, Okla.; his parents, Arla and Diana Toon of Watson, Okla.; three brothers, Brent Toon of Octavia, Kevin and Darrin Toon, both of Watson, Okla.; grandparents, Hershell and Lillie Toon of Watson, Okla., and Betty Johnson of Octavia, Okla.
Sherman Cole
STIGLER — Sherman K. Cole, 74, of Stigler died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, in Tulsa. He was a native of Keota, Okla., was retired from the Air Force after 22 years and was with the U.S. Postal Service for many years. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4446 of Stigler, Masonic Lodge No. 121 and a Shriner.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Keota First Baptist Church with burial at Iron Bridge Cemetery in Keota under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Lavonne; two daughters, Kelley Price of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kathy Howard of Dalton, Ga.; a son, Curtis Cole of Nash, Texas; four sisters, Bonnie Sorrell, Jackie Houston, Illaree Oliver and Esther Williams; two brothers, George and Troy Cole; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie and Mike Akins, Tracy Oliver, Jerry Ward, Leroy Glenn, David Zondor, Joe Welch and Bobby Short.
Joe Felkner
Joe R. Felkner, 70, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in Little Rock. He was born Sept. 29, 1933, in Coweta, Okla. He was a retired welder, of the Christian faith, an Arcadia Lake Park Ranger in Edmund, a former deputy sheriff in Oklahoma City, a general manager of Brown Jordan Furniture Manufacturing, and a member of the VFW, American Legion and Christian Business Fellowship.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery in Porter, Okla., under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Kathy Cade of Ridgecrest, Calif., Joye Messerli of Lewisville, Texas, and Sandra Felkner of Van Buren; two sons, Scott Salley of Flagstaff, Ariz., and George Salley of Tahlequah, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Fred Melton
Fred Melton, 48, of Fort Smith died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was a tree trimmer and a member of Revival Fires Church in Sallisaw.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Stigler City Cemetery in Stigler, Okla., under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by a fiancee, Lynn; a son, Fred Melton Jr. of Tahlequah, Okla.; his father, Lloyd Melton Sr. of Alma; three sisters, Sandra Melton of Fort Smith, Rebecca Lipton of Sallisaw, and Tammy Gilley of Springdale; three brothers, Lloyd Melton Jr. of Muldrow, Steve and Michael Melton, both of Fort Smith; and his maternal grandmother, Ellie Snow of Stigler.
Edna Murlin
SURPRISE, Ariz. — Edna Murlin, 88, of Surprise, Ariz., formerly of Fort Smith, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, in Viroqua, Wis. She was born Nov. 30, 1915, in Drumright, Okla. She was a retired assistant restaurant manager, a member of Midland Heights United Methodist Church, and a former Wal-Mart greeter.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Highland Cemetery in Pawnee, Okla.
She is survived by a daughter, Geraldine Womack of Fort Smith; a son, Frank Taylor of Glendale, Ariz.; two sisters, Irene Caldwell and Gertrude Pratz, both of Oklahoma City; a brother, Basil Sharp of Beach, Mo.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mildred Sanders
MOORE, Okla. — Mildred Parsley Sanders of Moore, Okla., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, in Moore. She was a retired nurse in Waldron and a Baptist.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Duncan Cemetery in Waldron under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
She is survived by two sons, David Parsley of Moore, Okla., and Philip of Savannah, Ga.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Iris Dorman
Iris Irene Keller Dorman, 88, of Fort Smith, AR died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was born Dec. 3, 1915, in Yale, Okla. She was the widow of George Dorman.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lawson Cemetery in Yale, Okla. under the direction of Alderwoods-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Tulsa.
She is survived by a sister, Nina Hearn of Fort Smith; and two brothers, Tom Keller of Kosse, Texas and Noble Keller of Victoria, Texas.
Loren “Jim” Girton
Loren “Jim” Girton, 54, of Van Buren, AR, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, in his home. He was employed by Fort Smith Blueprint and was formerly of Sand Springs, Okla.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, at Fairview Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Bonita; a sister, Loretta Williams and her husband, Larry, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a niece, Sharon Walker and her husband, Jason, of Tulsa; two nephews, Larry Williams Jr. and Josh Williams, both of Tulsa; a great-nephew, Grey Walker of Tulsa; and numerous other nieces and nephews in his wife’s family.
Pallbearers will be James, Ronnie and Brent Frazier, Larry Williams Jr., Josh Williams and Jason Walker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Travis and Ethan Gregory, Maverick Frazier and Jesse Paxton.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, 700 Jefferson St. in Van Buren.
Annie Riley
Annie “Shane” Riley, 63, of Fort Smith, AR died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, in her home. She was born Sept. 30, 1940, in Cedar, Okla. She attended Lincoln High School in Fort Smith and was a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church and an employee of Interfaith and Hobson preschools.
Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Unity Missionary Baptist Church with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, L.D.; four daughters, Beverly Wilborn, Donna Christian and Lisa Wise, all of Fort Smith, and Carla Vincent of Misawa, Japan; three sons, Darrell Eure of Norfolk, Va., Clifton Culpepper of Chicago and Lionel Riley of Rogers; a sister, Palis Rutledge of Fort Smith; two brothers, Chester Montgomery and Jack Fuhr, both of Topeka, Kan.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Floyd Williamson, Kevin Moore, Chester Lucas, Mike Grimes, Nick Lasker and Ike Jackson.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family will visit with friends at 3930 Bradley Drive, Fort Smith.
Pat R. Beneux
Pat R. Beneux, age 70, of Van Buren, AR passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Van Buren and a volunteer with the Crawford Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. She is preceded in death by her husband, Justin Beneux. She was born July 10, 1934, in Muskogee, Okla., to Clarence and Minnie Corliss.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her two sons, Brent and Barry Beneux, both of Van Buren; and one brother, Mike Corliss of Rockwall, Texas. She is also survived by two special friends, Diane Runion and Tressa McBride.
