Diana "McClain" Blackwell, 44, of Cornwall, N.Y., passed away
Tuesday, March 19, 2002.
She was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher, church chaperon involved with Baptist Women's organizations and a Cub Scout leader.
She was an elementary teacher and received her Master's in Special Education.
She was commissioned as Home Missionary by the North American Mission Board in 1993 and moved to Cornwall to begin service to the cadets at West Point.
Survivors include her husband Bill of the home; one daughter, Christina Marie of the home; one son, Stuart Andrew of the home; her parents, Virgil and Bobbie McClain of Springfield, Va.; one sister, Pamela Watts of Burke, Va.; two nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services
will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 25 at Memorial Park Cemetery
in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
William A. "Al" Freeman Jr.
William A. "Al" Freeman Jr., 90, of Fairfield, Ohio, passed away
Sunday, March 30, 2003.
He was a former resident of Heavener, a member of the First Baptist, a veteran of World War II, a retired brakeman for the KCS Railroad, a member of the United Transportation Union, and a retired bus driver for the Heavener School.
He was preceded in death
by his wife Fern; his parents; one son, Gary; two sisters, Belle Riggins and Mary Wofford.
Survivors include two daughters, Merrellyn Condo and husband Richard of Fairfield, Ohio and Ramona Blanton and husband Bill of Galveston, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday, April 2 in Hamilton, Ohio.
No services are planned in Heavener.
Burial
will be in Memorial Park Cemetery
in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 4 at Dowden Funeral Home in Heavener.
Preston Sides
Preston Sides, 56, of Bokoshe, passed away
Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, in Muskogee.
He was born Nov. 24, 1945 at McCurtain to Tony and Beulah (Bailey) Sides.
He loved hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and one brother, Norman Sides.
Survivors include one sister, Virginia Vincent of Bokoshe; one brother, Jerry Sides of Tulsa; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Graveside services
will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Milton Cemetery
with the Rev. Mary Sue Sprouse officiating, under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4446 Stigler.

Howard L. Bitsko, 70, of Cameron, passed away
Monday, March 31, 2003.
He was born June 12, 1932 at Tulsa to Michael K. and Eva (Walton) Bitsko.
He was a member of Cameron First Baptist Church, an electrician and an amateur radio operator for 50 years.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; one brother, Ray; and one sister, Helen.
Survivors include his wife Pansy of the home; two sons, Steve Bitsko of Woodville, Texas and Mark Bitsko of Fort Smith; two stepsons, Ronald Burden of Singapore and Jimmie Burden of Cameron; two sisters, Ruby and Naomi; one brother, William "Bill" Bitsko; six grandchildren, Wayne, Samuel, Laura, Sarah, Megan and Richard.

Virgle Wayne Thompson
Virgle Wayne Thompson, 53, of Monroe, passed away
Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, in Poteau.
He was born April 11, 1949. He worked for Dog Creek Ranch for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife Leona of the home; three daughters, Liz Collins of Poteau, Tina Sanders of Howe and Malinda Sweeney of Monroe; one son, Phillip Casteel of Poteau; 10 grandchildren; special granddaughter, Angela Ritter; one great-grandchild; his uncle and aunt, Jerry and Gay Thompson; numerous family and friends.

will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Monroe Cemetery
with the Rev. Billy Wheat officiating, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Golda B. Moore
Golda B. Moore, 88, of Panama, passed away
Saturday, July 27, 2002, in Fort Smith.
She was born Jan. 9, 1914 at McCurtain.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death
by her father, John William Kerr; her mother, Christian Annie Kerr; two sisters, Willie Garrett and Opal Braden; one son, Jimmy Grant Moore; and two daughters, Amy Sue Jennen and Zelta Jean Sorrell.
Survivors include her husband Woodrow A. Moore of the home; four daughters, Patricia Bernice and husband Jerry J. Ammons of Panama, Melba Geneva and husband Ed Craig of Bay Point, Calif., and Rosa Lea and husband Charles Cottrill, all of Bay Point, Calif. and Regena Ann and husband Johnny Brown of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; two sisters, Ruby Pearl Woodard of Dallas, Texas and Jewel Duhan of Sulphur, La.; one brother, the Rev. Doyle M. Kerr of Sperry; and her life was enriched by 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Brian Smith officiating.

Dennis Alexander, 62, of Poteau, passed away
Tuesday, April 1, 2003.
He was born Nov. 8, 1940 at Mesa, Ariz. to Loyd and Leona Alexander.
He was a truck driver and lived in the Poteau area for the past 18 years.
He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and an infant son.
Survivors include his wife Marie of the home; two daughters, Lisa Marrow of Buffalo Valley and Dana Mata of Wichita Falls, Texas; two sons, David Alexander of Poteau and Dennis Alexander II of Shady Point; six grandchildren, Ryan Marrow, Megan Marrow, Tristan Alexander, Andrew Alexander, Kayla Alexander and Aiden Alexander; three sisters, Joyce Burnett, Jackie Murrow and Sandy Nichols; three brothers, Orlen Ray Alexander, Butch Alexander and Daniel Alexander; and numerous nieces, nephews, loved ones; and friends.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at the Pentecostal Church of God in Poteau with the Rev. Clyde Hess officiating.

Dallas Thomas, 62, of Hatfield, Ark., passed away
Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in Little Rock, Ark.
He was born Feb. 1, 1940 in LeFlore.
He was a veteran of the Air Force, loved camping, fishing, horseback riding and team roping.
He was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death
by his father, James Tom Thomas.
Survivors include his wife Mary Thomas of the home; one daughter, Debbie West of Acorn, Ark.; one son, Steven Thomas of Garland, Texas; four grandchildren, Kimberly Allen of Weatherford, Texas, Mike Bolden of Vacaville, Calif., Melissa Siegenthaler of Acorn and Elijah West of Acorn; one great-granddaughter, Makenzie Allen of Weatherford; his mother, Nancy Thomas of Antlers; three sisters, Betty Borin of Arkoma, Mary Childers of Antlers and Tommie Rosenthal of Antlers; two brothers, Dickie Thomas of McKinney, Texas and Don Thomas of Allen, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m Saturday, Dec. 21 at LeFlore Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Caughern officiating.

Joyce T. Meixner, 69, passed away
Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Hartshorne.
She was born April 15, 1933 at Panama.
She was a member of the Wilburton Hospital Auxiliary, founding member of the Wilburton P.A.W.S. Avid Reader, a painter, pianist and lover of animals.
She was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilburton.
Survivors include her husband Billy D. Meixner of Alva; one son, Eugene F. Gee III of Vancouver, Wash.; one daughter-in-law, Patrice Gee of Vancouver, Wash.; two granddaughters, Lindsay Warner of Vancouver, Wash. and Kristyn Jones of Yellville, Ark.; two great-grandsons, Noah David and Dawson Mac Jones of Yellville, Ark.; one sister, Patricia Lee Thomas of Wilburton; two nephews, David Lee and Amy Thomas of Oklahoma City and Charles and Cynthia Thomas of Wilburton; two nieces, Margaret Thomas Sorrels and Charles of Blanco and Christina Calvin and Glen of Wilburton.

Denver Whitmore, 72, of Wister, passed away
Monday, June 2, 2003, at Fort Smith, Ark.
He was affiliated with the Apostolics of Poteau (United Pentecostal Church).
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He served at the age of 15 with his father in Japan during World War II and also in the Korean War where he received a Bronze Star for carrying a Lieutenant eight miles across enemy lines.
He was retired from OG&E.

He worked as a sheet metal fabricator for Spring Engineer of Dallas, Texas.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Shady Point.

Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, in Fort Smith.
She was born Oct. 29, 1946 at Poteau to Milas and Lorene (Williams) Clark.
She was a homemaker and loving mother.
She was a beautiful woman who went out of her way to make others feel loved and at ease.
Her passion in life was taking care of those she loved in every way possible.
She always made sure everyone near her felt happy, loved and important, even a total stranger.
Not a day went by that she didn't put someone else's needs before her own. That's what made her happy.
Her pastime was creating hand crafted roses for her loved ones and other assorted crafts.
She also enjoyed listening to her music and collecting Elvis memorabilia.
Ross Earl Stone
Ross Earl Stone, 55, of Poteau, passed away
Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003.
He was born Aug. 18, 1947 at Frederick to Ross H. and Elizabeth M. Stone of Wister.
He was a graduate of Fanshawe High School and earned a baccalaureate degree from East Central Oklahoma State University at Ada.
He retired from the Child Welfare Division of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Poteau, a longtime volunteer coach of baseball and softball with the Green Country Summer League program and participated in numerous civic organizations.
He was also an organ donor.
Dixie Pearl Bentley
Dixie Pearl Bentley, 90, of Albion, passed away
Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Fort Smith.
She was born Sept. 11, 1912 at Minter, Texas to Perry Corbin and Nanny Whitt-Corbin.
She was married
to Roger William Bentley in January 1936 in Antlers.
She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and she will be missed.
On Sept. 11, 1980 she was blessed with a very special birthday gift, a grandson James Thomas Dighton.
She was a member of the Albion Baptist Church and lived in the Albion area most of her life.

She was born June 19, 1916 at Howe to Steve Humphreys and Willie Smith-Humphreys.
She was married
to William George Thirkill in May 1940.
Lena loved to fish and enjoyed living in Talihina.
She always loved attending the Tiger ball games.
She loved her church, her family and especially her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Valley Christian Church and lived in Talihina most of her life.
