Amos Howard Kirkley, 76, of La Porte, TX died Feb. 22, 1998. He was born in Heavener, OK.
He was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of La Porte and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars La Porte Chapter #912.
He is survived by his children, Peggy Hall and husband, Robert of Huntsville, TX, Judy Walker and husband, Lou of Seneca, MO, Pamela Howard and husband, Larry of La Porte, Debra Widener and husband, Wayne of Houston, TX, David Kirkley and wife, Carolyn of League City, TX, Richard Kirkley and wife, Pamela of La Porte, Keith Kirkley and wife, LeAnn of La Porte, and Steven Kirkley of Dallas; sisters, Imogene Loggains and husband, Roy and Charlene Wiggington, all of Poteau; brother, Jimmy Joe Kirkley of Florida; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were to have been held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Paul U. Lee-La Porte Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was to have been at the La Porte Cemetery.
Lois Lamar Cobb
Lois Lamar Cobb, 66, of Howe, Okla. was born Feb. 14, 1932 in Poteau, Okla. She passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 1998 in Howe. She was a Homemaker.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. March, 3, 1998 at the Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with the Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Interment at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Ray Cobb of the home; four sons, Ron Lamar of Warwick, Don Lamar of Poteau, David Lamar of Fort Smith, AR, and Eugene Cobb of Howe; five daughters, Marsha Lamar of Poteau, Donna Walls of Spiro, Holly Gonzalez of Heavener, Nancy Cobb of Poteau, and Carol Peterson of Richfield, UT; four brothers, John Wesley Collins of Poteau, Billy Wayne Collins of Durant, John Wayne Collins of Shady Point, and William Gene Collins of Poteau; five sisters, Nettie and Betty Couch, both of Poteau, Sandy Mae Vickers of Rock Island, Debbie Sue Poor of Poteau; and Lois Olean Bess; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives, loved ones, and friends.
Lois was a devoted wife and mother that loved her children. She was also very loved by her children which earned her the title of mom.

Velma Myers
Velma Myers, 82, of Poteau, Okla., was born July 16, 1915 in Williams, Okla. She passed away Sunday, March 1, 1998 in Poteau. She was a Homemaker.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 1998 at the Greenhill Cemetery in Cameron with the Rev. Clifford Myers officiating.
She is survived by her daughter, Lavern Smedley of Smitheville; one son, Bill Myers of Ft. Smith, AR; four grandchildren; one great-grandchildren.

Robert Eugene Newman
Robert Eugene Newman, 86, of Salonia, Okla., was born July 7, 1911 at Leflore, Okla. He passed away Feb. 28, 1998 at his residence at Salonia. He was a member of the Salonia Indian Baptist Church, and was an honorably discharged U.S. Army Veteran. He had lived in the LeFlore and Salonia area all of his life. He was married to Mary Stallaby at Ft. Smith, AR on Feb. 21, 1946 they had been married for 52 years.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 1998 at the Salonia Indian Baptist Church with the Rev. Grady Jack officiating. Interment at the Salonia Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; one daughter, Imogene Bugos of Red Oak; two sons, Robert Leroy Newman of San Carlos, AZ, Eric Daniel Newman of Red Oak; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; numerous friends and loved ones.

Mary Ann Newman
Mary Ann Newman, 82 of Salonia, Okla., was born Jan. 29, 1916 at Salonia to Tenuis and Sallie (Adams) Stallaby. She passed away in her home, March 6, 1998.
She had been a lifetime resident of the Salonia area. She was united in marriage to Robert Eugene Newman on Feb. 21, 1946 at Ft. Smith, AR. She as a member of the Salonia Indian Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, beadwork and gardening.
She preceded in death by her husband, Robert, Feb. 28, 1998.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert LeRoy Newman of San Carlos, AZ, and Eric Daniel Newman of Red Oak; one daughter, Imogene Bugos of Red Oak; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; numerous friends and other loved ones.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 1998 at the Salonia Indian Baptist Church with interment at Salonia Cemetery.

Charles "Buddy" Hammers
Charles "Buddy" Hammers, 73, of Fort Smith, AR, was born April 17, 1924 in Calhoun, Okla. to John and Mabel Hammers. He died Feb. 3, 1998 in a hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998 at the Shady Point Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his brother, Buck Hammers of Panama.
Alma Webster
Alma Webster, 96, of Heavener, Okla. died Sunday, March 1, 1998 in a Poteau Hospital. She was a longtime resident of Heavener and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 1998 at the First Baptist Church of Heavener with burial at Memorial Park of Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by six daughters, Eula Mae Davis, Gladys Brand, Juanita Pledger, Frances Summers, all of Heavener, Alma Mangum, and Loretta Gooch, both of Hodgen; one Goddaughter, Colene Wickware of Hodgen; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Sandra Kay Freeman
Sandra Kay Freeman, 50, of Howe, Okla. died Monday, March 2, 1998 in her residence. She was a member and pianist in the First Missionary Baptist Church in Howe, a graduate of Westsville, OK High School with honors, graduate of Bisonette Glee club at Oklahoma Baptist University. She was a Broker and owner of the Forest Hill Realty and Income Tax Prepare.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 1998 at the First Missionary Baptist Church, Howe with burial at Howe Cemetery under the direction of the Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by her parents, Charles and Mary Ellen Freeman of Howe; one brother, Charles "Buzz" Freeman of Heavener; several aunts and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Missionary Baptist Church in Howe.
Nita Matherly
Nita Matherly, 55, of Monroe, Okla., was born Sept. 3, 1942 in Homer, LA. She passed away Tuesday, March 3, 1998 in her residence in Monroe. She was a retired Secretary/Accountant.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday March 4, 1998 at the Sugarloaf Christian Fellowship, Monroe. There will be another service at Rocky Springs Baptist Church in Lisbon, LA Thursday, March 5, 1998 at 2 p.m. Officiators for services will be Rev. Les Scroggins and Rev. Rusty Gilbert.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Matherly of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Jeff Staats of Monroe; son and daughter-in-law, Greg A. and Cricket Matherly of Richland, WA; mother, Ruby McDonald Haynes of Lisbon, LA; brother and sister-in-law, Robert R. and Elizabeth Haynes of Tuscaloosa, AL; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Chuck Williams of Homer, LA; six grandchildren, Shalom, Jeffery, Jessica, and Sarah Staats, Thanur and Tuckur Matherly; two nephews, one niece, and a host of friends.
Nita was preceded in death by her father, Thomas A. Haynes and a brother, James A. Haynes. She was a graduate of Rhema Bible Training Institute.

Priscilla Marcellious Dowell
Priscilla Marcellious Dowell, 72, of Poteau, Okla. was born June 28, 1925 in Summerfield, Okla. She passed away Monday, March 2, 1998 at the Oaks Health Care Center, Poteau. She was a retired Secretary.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 1998 at the First Baptist Church, Poteau with the Rev. Phil McGehee and Rev. Robert S. Jackson.
She is survived by her husband, Willie Dowell of the home; two daughters, Linda Quinton of Bradenton, FL, Nancy Vuong of Fort Smith, AR; one son David Carmack of Poteau; mother, Cleo Nolan of Poteau; six grandchildren, Bridget and Lincoln Quinton, Quyen and Steven Vuong, Matthew and Lisa Carmack; a host of loved ones and many friends.
Marcellious was a Christian, a member of First Baptist Church of Poteau, and a choir member for over 30 years.
She was also a former member of the Poteau Music Club, Business and Professional Women's Club, and the Order the Eastern Star. Marcellious was a graduate of LeFlore High School and the Draughn Business College of Oklahoma, an antique dealer, and interior decorator.
During her life, she held the positions of secretary to the Superintendent of Panama Schools, secretary at Wortz Biscuit Company of Fort Smith, AR, and secretary at the LeFlore County Courthouse.
Marcellious was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Lincoln Nolan.

Linda Lee Dodson Wells
Linda Lee Dodson Wells, 51, of Bokoshe, Okla., was born Nov. 19, 1946 in Poteau, Okla. She was a Registered Nurse.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 6, 1998 at the Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with the Rev. Cecil Staton and Rev. Roy Miller officiating. Interment Old Bokoshe Cemetery.
She is survived by Charles E. of the home; mother, Elizabeth Dodson of Bokoshe; three cousins; many other friends and loved ones.
Linda had taught in the R.N. Program at Westark College since 1989. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bokoshe. She was preceded in death by her father, Everett Dodson, Jr.

Virgil McAlester
Virgil McAlester, 66, of Wister, Okla. was born Dec. 23, 1931 in Summerfield, Okla. He passed away Monday, March 2, 1998 at the Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center, Poteau.
Services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 1998 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Poteau with Greg McGowen and Howard Raines officiated. Interment at the Fanshawe Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita McAlester of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Jack Dobbs, Connie and Bob Ryburn, all of Poteau; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Leota McAlester of Wister, David and Becky McAlester of Waldron, AR, and John McAlester of Wister; five sisters, Opal Kuhl of Hackett, AR, Billie Corbin of Kansas City, Mo., Shirley Dye of Eufaula, Okla., Patsy Ramer of Sulphur, Okla., and Vickey Harmon of Davis, Okla.; three brothers, Jerry McAlester of Cameron, Eddie McAlester of Wister, and Stanley McAlester of Wister; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other friends and loved ones.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Londy McAlester, and a baby brother. Virgil was married to Juanita for 46 years and served in the US Army. Virgil was a Minister in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Fanshawe.

Randall M. Collins
Randall M. Collins, 42, of Crowley, Tex., a systems analyst, died Thursday, March 5, 1998 at a local hospital in Crowley.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 1998 at Laurel Land Funeral Home with interment at the Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth, Tex. Memorials may be made to the Crowley Youth Association.
Randall Collins was born Jan. 18, 1956 in Fort Scott, Kan. He graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1974 and Pittsburg State University in 1978. He married Elizabeth O'Dell on Aug. 15, 1975. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crowley.
Mr. Collins was employed by Union Pacific Resource Co. for 18 years. He enjoyed coaching the Crowley Youth Association and was the No. 1 fan of the Crowley Eagles. He loved the University of Kansas Jayhawks.
He is survived by his wife, Liz Collins; son, Brett Collins; daughter, Courtney Collins; mother, Audrey Collins; mother-in-law, Betty O'Dell; sisters, Sharron Wells and her husband, Dick, and Beverly Hess and her husband, Bob; brother-in-law, Don O'Dell and wife, Stephanie; sister-in-law, Debbie Sailors; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

Ethel Beatrice Burton
Ethel Beatrice Burton, 90, of Talihina, Okla., was born Oct. 23, 1906 at Hurrican Mills, Tenn. She passed away March 7, 1998 at the Talihina Manor Nursing Home in Talihina, Okla. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Kenton, Tenn. She had lived in the Talihina area since 1989. She was a homemaker.
She preceded in death by her husband, Hillsman Burton on Feb. 13, 1989.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Savage of Talihina; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; numerous friends and loved ones.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 1998 at the New Talihina City Cemetery with the rev. Carrol Redwine officiating. Interment at the New Talihina City Cemetery.
Eula Mae Harp
Eula Mae Harp, 90 of Fort Smith, AR, died Friday, March 6, 1998. She was the widow of Bill Harp and member of the Westark Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, March 9, 1998 in the Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren, AR under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her two sons, Bobby Harp of Van Buren and Arthur Harp of Poteau; two sisters, Clara Kendig of Fort Smith and Bessie Cobble of Tulsa; brother, Carl Bowen of Van Buren; grandson, Lee Harp of New Mexico; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Tommy Bowen, Gary Bowen, Laren Kendig, Tim Bowen, Carl Wayne Yeakley, Johnny Whitsett.
