John William (Bill) Ramsey

John William (Bill) Ramsey, 92, of Whitesboro, Okla. departed this life 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 29, 1998 at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center, Poteau.

He was born Mar. 6, 1906 at Muse, Indian Territory. He was the 6th son and 9th child of 16 children born to John Gordon Ramsey and Martha Elizabeth (Polton) Ramsey. He married Pearl (Payne) Ramsey in 1926.

He is preceded in death by his wife in 1987 and a son, William Doyle Ramsey in 1952.

During his early life, Bill worked as a farmer around the Whitesboro area. He later worked as custodian in the Whitesboro School District for almost 30 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of Whitesboro Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Christine Ramsey of Whitesboro, Lynn and Billye Ramsey of Oglesby, TX; two brothers, Gene Ramsey of Poteau and Sydney D. Ramsey of Talihina; three sisters, Bertha Morgan of Booneville, AR, Lillie Deel of Leonard, TX, and Irene Proctor of Chelsea; seven grandchildren, Charles Shilling of Idabel, Debbie Davis of Fort Smith, AR, Dana White of Milton, KY, Gerald Ramsey of Little River Academy, TX, Teresa Timmons of Gatesville, TX, Sherri Campbell of Marshall, TX, and Karen Hawk of Belton, TX; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a great number of nieces, nephews, and his many friends.

Service for Bill will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 1998 at 3 p.m. Whitesboro School in the old gymnasium with Rev. Darrow Sanderson of the First Baptist Church, Whitesboro and Rev. Charles Shilling of Trinity Baptist Church of Idabel officiating.

Active pallbearers are Kenneth E. Ramsey, Scotty Russell, John D. Williams, Larry Mings, Gene Cummings, and Vern Hunter.

Honorary pallbearers are Pete Kennedy, Gordon Rose, Robert Cummings, Walter James, Allen Dukes, and E. S. Carter.

Service under the direction of Drake-Jones Funeral Home, Talihina.

Bernice Armstrong
Bernice Armstrong, 79, of Poteau, Okla. was born Dec. 9, 1918 in Hill Community, Okla. She died, Saturday, Mar. 28, 1998 at the Oaks Health Care Center, Poteau. She was a Homemaker.

A private memorial service was held at the Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Cook officiating.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia McMillan of Poteau; one brother, Carl T. Turner, Sr. of Poteau; three granddaughters, Anna Haggard, Lea Ann Haggard both of Blue Ball, AR, and Debbie Knight of Dallas, TX; one grandson, John Haggard of Blue Ball; one great-granddaughter, Abby Young of Wister, OK.

Arrangements under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Myrna (Parent) DePierne

Myrna (Parent) DePierne, 55, of Spiro, Okla., died Wednesday, April 1, 1998 in Sparks Regional Medical Center. She was a retired Registered Nurse and a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 3, 1998 at the New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.

She is survived by her husband, David DePierne of Spiro; three daughters, Stacey Ann DePierne of the home, Shelley Kay James and husband, Jack of Barling, AR, and Serena Lyn DeMent and husband, Bob of Fayetteville, AR; her parents, Mildred and Bud Gibbs of Spiro; one brother, Ronnie Parent and wife, Janeann of Spiro; four grandson, Joshua, Jacob, Caleb, and Noah James; one nephew, Brandon Parent; and one niece, Leann Parent.

Pallbearers are Dale Stout, Ronnie Parent, Jack James, Brandon Parent, and Garland Gibbs.

Sharon Kay Ball
Sharon Kay Ball, 48, of Poteau, Okla. was born Nov. 14, 1949 in Star, Okla. She passed away Friday, Mar. 27, 1998 at her residence.

She was a Cosmetologist.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Mar. 30, 1998 at the Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Steve Johnson officiating.

Interment will be at the Fairhill Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Frank A. Ball of the home; daughters, and sons-in-law, Melodie A. and Andrew R. Huckins of Fayetteville, AR, Mindy and Patrick Leary of Plano, TX, Tiffany Ball of the home; granddaughter, Allysha L. Huckins of Fayetteville, AR; brothers, Warren and Donnie Nixon both of Cartersville, OK, Roger Nixon of Manhattan, KS; sisters, Jackie Drummond of Cartersville, June Jordan of McCurtain; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Ball is preceded in death by her parents, Damon and Juanita Nixon of Cartersville.

Services under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

William Arvel Dunlap
William Arvel Dunlap, 75, born Apr. 8, 1922 in Tahlequah, Okla. died Tuesday, Mar. 24, 1998 at the Oaks Health Care of Poteau. He was a Truck Driver.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 26, 1998 at the Liberty Hill Baptist Church of Cameron with the Rev. H.L. Killebrew officiating. Interment at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.

William was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II. He lived most of his life in the Tulsa area, moving to Cameron in 1990.

There will be a Committal Service at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa on Friday, Mar. 27, 1998. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Association or the Diabetes Association.

He is survived by his wife, Lois May Dunlap of the home; four daughters, Sharon Darlene Dunlap and Martha Kay Willard both of Tulsa, Anntionette Farrar and Tresia Gail Farrar, both of Cameron; three sons, Gary Lee Dunlap, William Keith Dunlap, both of Tulsa, and Tommy Ray Farrar of Panama; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Mary E. Herrington
Mary E. Herrington, 76, of Wister, Okla., was born Apr. 1, 1921 in Leflore, Okla. She died Tuesday, Mar. 24, 1998 at the Sparks Regional Medical Center of Fort Smith. She was a Homemaker.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 28, 1998 at the Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with the Rev. Jim Cook. Interment at the Fanshawe Cemetery.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou and Dennis Odom of Summerfield, Darlene and Bill Bewley of Poteau, and Beulah Carpenter of Summerfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, James William and Sharon Herrington, Junior Lee and Nina Herrington all of Heavener; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Marie Salfa of Waterford, MI; six brothers, Floyd Gwin of San Francisco, CA, Ray Gwin of Yuba City, CA, Charlie Gwin of Leflore, Mart Gwin of Spiro, Buddy Gwin of Manteca, CA, and J. W. Gwin of Bokoshe; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Herrington is preceded in death by her husband, Walker W. Herrington, Betty Maxine Herrington, Jimmy Ray and Sharon K. Herrington, sister, Liddy Mae Jenkins, brothers, Jessie Gwin and Albert Gwin.

Services under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Kenneth Graham
Kenneth Graham, 70, of Arkansas City, Kan. died Tuesday, Mar. 24, 1998 at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield, Kan.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Mar. 28, 1998 at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. The Rev. Lottie Adams and the Rev. James "Jr." Watson will officiate. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery in Arkansas City.

Kenneth was born Aug. 16, 1927 in LeFlore County, Okla. to Lando and Geneva (Bates) Graham. On Apr. 4, 1950, he married Shirley Jeanette Green in Pawhuska, Okla. They made their home in Wichita and later moved to Arkansas City. Kenneth's jobs included working with cotton gins, in a molasses plant, a service station where he earned the nickname "Kid," logging in the Idaho area, a truck driver, and a farmer throughout his entire life. He also worked for Rodeo, Kan. as a truck driver at an early age and later he returned to Rodeo where he worked on the ham bone machine and at Morton State Line at the same time. Kenneth retired from the Ark City Packing Plant. He was well known for his love of farming, watermelon patches, and animals.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home; daughter, Marilyn I. Lorg of Arkansas City; sons, Kenneth "Sonny" Graham of Olmito, TX and Timothy "Timmy" Graham of Arkansas City; five sisters, Loretta Dearth of Wichita, Kan., Hazel Babbitt of Tampa, Fla., Evelyn Lauppe of Wichita, Ruby Keeton of McLean, Tex., and Cleo Pruitt of Coleman, Tex.; half-sister, Myrtle Dobbins of Denver, Co.; three brothers, Leo Graham of Fanshawe, half-brother, Ernest Graham of Washington, Kan.; three aunts; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a half-brother, two sisters, a son, and infant twins.
A memorial has been established with Hospice, Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Joyce "Sis" Darneal
Joyce "Sis" Darneal, 59, of Bokoshe, Okla. died Thursday, Mar. 26, 1998 in Sparks Regional Medical Center, Ft. Smith, AR. She was a Homemaker and a widow of Benny Darneal.

Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Friday, Mar. 27, 1998 at the Old Bokoshe Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.

She is survived by her son, Chris Darneal of Bokoshe; four sisters, Louise Clark of Haskell, Patricia Owens of Spiro, Velta Hunter of Bokoshe, and Gail Matlock of Keota; three brothers, Royal Coker of Fort Smith, AR, Lige Coker of Cowlington, and Loval Coker of Haskell; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Mitchell Owens, Jerry Crase, Billy Owens, Allan Crase, Kevin Crase, Steve Coker, Boyd Owens, Randy Matlock, Jerry Coker.

Jerry Henry Lui
Jerry Henry Lui, 48, Bokoshe, Okla. was born June 19, 1949 in Racine, WI. He died Thursday, Mar. 26, 1998 at the Sparks Regional Medical Center, Ft. Smith, AR. He was an Artist/Machinist.

Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 1, 1998 at the Old Bokoshe Cemetery with Father Phillip Reaves officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lui of the home; three sons, Jared of Texas, Joshua and Jeremy, both of Tucson, AZ; four brothers, Danny, Tommy and Tony Lui, all of Tucson, and Raymond Lui of Illinois; three sisters, Linda Wetterlind, Theresa Mayer, Laura Thomas, all of Tucson; one grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Services under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Bob Yerton Sr.
Bob Yerton Sr., 68, of Panama, Okla., died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998. He was the founder of Fort Smith Plastic Mold, Inc., retired before the company was sold to Syneed Plastic now Atlantis in 1990. He worked for Burns Security at Whirlpool after retirement. He was a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church in Panama.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Shatwell, his parents, Walter Sr. and Bertha, brother, Jake Yerton, sister, Pauline Swink, and two grandchildren, Marcus and Matthew Goines.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 1998 at the Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith, AR with burial at Barling Cemetery, Barling, AR under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Yerton; daughter, Bernetta Boatman of Barling; two sons, Bobby Yerton Jr. and Mike Yerton, both of Fort Smith; step-children, Tawnya Lowe of Bixby, Daniel Williams of Panama, Geri Goines, of Panama; brother, Walter Yerton Jr. of Fort Smith; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.

Bernice Jo Stokes
Bernice Jo Stokes, 74, of Poteau, Okla. was born Nov. 11, 1923 in Shady Point, Okla. She died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998 at the Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center, Poteau. She was a homemaker.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 1998 at the Oakland Pavilion, Poteau with the Rev. Jack Covey officiating. Interment at the Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.
She is survived by her two sisters, Francis Muncy of Price, Utah and Christine Wade of Poteau; two brothers, Donald Chestine of Midland, AR and Jimmy Chestine of Dallas, TX; special niece, Mary Ellis of Poteau; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and loved ones and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Stokes.

Barbara Jean (Hamm) Brooks
Barbara Jean (Hamm) Brooks, 73, of Poteau, Okla. was born Nov. 2, 1924 in Wister, Okla. She passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998 at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith, AR. She was a retired Beautician.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998 at the First Baptist Church, Poteau with Rev. Phil McGehee. Interment at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

She is survived by her husband, Richard P. Brooks of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Ann Hamm of Mesquite, TX; daughter, Sheila Johnson of Poteau; step-son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Edna Brooks of Hominy; 10 grandchildren, Ron and Andy Patterson, Stephen Johnson, Lagaytha Hammer, David Hamm, Mike Brooks, Gina and Dianna Schaffer, Paula Tinker, and Pamela Yates; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Barbara owned and operated Barbara's Beauty Salon in Poteau for over 30 years, was elected a member of Mellie's Beauty College Hall of Fame for dedication to the Beauty Industry, and received a Citation of Congratulations from the State.

Paul Owens
Paul Owens, 71, of Spiro, Okla. was born Sept. 6, 1926 in Summerfield, Okla. He died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998 at Sparks Regional Medical Center of Fort Smith, AR. He was a retired Salesman of the Carnation Company of Tulsa.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 2, 1998 at the First Assembly of God Church, Spiro with the Rev. Donnie Wagoner and Rev. Robert Hill officiating.

Interment at Summerfield Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Maudie of the home; three sons, Paul Owens of Rocky Ford, Colo., Bill Coleman of Glenpool, Chris Owens of North Carolina; four daughters, Cheryl West of Alma, AR, Wynoma Burkholder of Tucson, AZ, Mary Brown of Cuba, Mo., Mary McKinney of Spiro; three brothers, Ben Owens of Summerfield, H.B. Hayes of Spiro, J.B. Hayes of Pocola;
three sisters, Imogene Welch of Reichert, Wanda Steward of Spiro; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other friends, and loved ones.
