MARSHALL DON LUKE PORTER “LITTLE PORT”
April 19, 1992 – Dec. 22, 2004
Marshall was born
in Gallup, NM, to Ann Dee Texter (formerly Porter) and Leon Porter. He was a 7th grade student at Bridge Creek Middle School. Marshall lost his life at Crownpoint, NM, while visiting his father over Christmas vacation. He was enjoying one of his favorite hobbies, “hunting” on his dad’s ranch. He walked onto a pond, thinking it was frozen, and fell through the ice. Marshall was a Little Leaguer in baseball, basketball and football. He was the 7th grade quarterback for BC during football season this year. Marshall scored the last TD of their season. He played 1st base and sometimes pitched for the Bobcats baseball team. He loved basketball and was so proud of his winning basket in a recent game with Little Axe. Hunting and fishing were a high priority for Marshall and he has his antelope and deer heads mounted and hanging in “his” bedroom. He always participated in the talent shows at BC with his country song singing. He was the Waterboy for his beloved Bobcat Basketball HS team this year and earned the nickname of “Little Port” from the high school football team as their helper, ball handler. He never missed a practice or a game. Michael, his sophomore brother, is called “Port” by his teammates. Marshall loved and admired his big brother so much, he felt honored to be called “Little Port.” His papa was special to him above all others. Marshall helped working on motors and welding and was always there to help build or tear down. The weather was never too hot or too cold – if Papa was on a job around the place Marshall was beside him, doing all he could to make the choice easier for his Papa. We have lost a most precious and promising life. We know our little boy would have reached his goals as a man because he never gave up or gave in as a boy. Our memories are many, to think of Marshall brings a smile and we will love, honor and miss him forever.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Ann Dee and Jim Texter; his father and step-mother, Leon and Diane Porter; two brothers, Michael Porter and James Texter and his wife, Juletta; grandparents, Don and Annette Quinton and Luther Porter; uncles, Jimmy Quinton and Harold Porter; aunts, Angie Glover, Barbie DeRoy and Alicia Heath; and cousins, Derrick, Mitchell and Tre Glover, Colton and Kayli Quinton and Jordan Heath.
