Mary Elizabeth Paugh
Mary Elizabeth Paugh, age 74 passed away Saturday, September 18, 2004 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She was born May 21, 1930 in Panama City, Florida to Willis Hugh Calvert and Anna (Shalestik) Calvert.
On May 31, 1953 in Iselin, New Jersey, Mary and Rex Paugh were united in marriage. He preceded her in
death August 31, 1998.
Mary owned and operated an antique store in Altus for many years. When she wasn’t busy in the store Mary
enjoyed painting, going to swap meets, flea markets and traveling to Las Vegas. Mary also enjoyed being involved with
city politics. She was a longtime member of the Altus Arts Club.
Mary is survived by three sons, Wes Paugh and wife Susan of Duncan, Oklahoma, Kevin (K.D.) Paugh and wife
Carolyn of Sturgis, South Dakota, Gary Paugh and wife Keri of Altus, Oklahoma; three brothers Willis Calvert, Jr. of
Tennessee, Donald Calvert and wife Margie of New Jersey, Robert James Calvert of Avenel, New Jersey, one sister
Willa Ann Gurbach and husband Marty of Woodridge, New Jersey; eight grandchildren, Sally Maple, Kevin Paugh, Jr.,
Leon Paugh, Tara Paugh, Bo Paugh, Daniel Paugh, Sara Paugh, Jakob Paugh. She is also survived by her special
friends Irene Wilson and Norman Fair both of Altus, Oklahoma, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Celebration of Life Service for Mary Paugh is scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Buck Payne
Buck Payne, age 62, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005 at his home in Altus, Oklahoma.
He was born on June 27, 1942 to Ira Payne and Jodie (Pate) Payne in Altus, Oklahoma.
Buck attended Duke Schools for 12 years graduating in 1960. He then attended Altus Junior College and later
transferred to Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma..
On January 31, 1964 Buck married Elmeda Olson in Duke, Oklahoma.
Buck farmed for many years, managed grain elevators and for several years owned and operated “Uncle Bucks Rides
& Barbeque” at Quartz Mountain State Park. After a fire totally destroyed the business, Buck was then employed by
the Western Sizzling Restaurant in Elk City as the assistant manager. He worked there until his illness prevented
employment.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ira Payne.
Buck is survived by his wife, Elmeda of the home, his mother, Jodie of Altus; two sons, Darrin and his wife Donna of
Duke, Oklahoma, Duane and his wife Tara of Victoria, Texas; four grandchildren, Keelie Gifford of Duke, Oklahoma,
Bailey Cheyenne Payne, Cole Ryan Payne and Jake Hunter Payne of Victoria, Texas; one sister, Sharon Moore and
husband Roland of Altus, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. at theDuke United Methodist Church. Internment will follow
at Victory Cemetery, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends Monday, May 23, 2005 from 6:30 until 8:00 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Jodie Christine Payne
Jodie Christine Payne, age 88, passed away August 9, 2005 at English Village Manor in Altus, Oklahoma.
She was born December 17, 1917, in Hollis, Oklahoma, to Hunter and Velma (Landerth) Pate.
Jodie married Ira L. Payne on August 17, 1935 in Jackson County, he preceded her in death on November 11, 1986.
She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, and a member of the Duke Methodist Church. Jodie was a member of
the Home Demonstration Club and the UMW Club.
Jodie is survived by one daughter, Sharon Moore and husband Roland of Altus, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law;
Elmeda Payne of Altus, Oklahoma, one sister, Lorene Pate of Duke, Oklahoma, three grandsons; Mark Breeding, of
Duke, Oklahoma, Darrin Payne and wife Donna of Duke, Oklahoma and Duane Payne and wife Tara of Victoria,
Texas. She is also survived by five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ira Payne, one son, Buck Payne, three sisters, two brothers and one
granddaughter, Travonna Breeding.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 10:30 am at the Duke Methodist Church, with Rev. Elbert
Shumaker and Rev. Brett Thomasson officiating, Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery, under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Hospice in memory of Jodie Payne.
Randal Neal Pearce
Randal Neal Pearce, age 73 of Altus, passed away September 27, 2003. Services are set for 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday,
September 30, 2003 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Lionel Mounce will officiate.
Randal was born in Jackson County, Oklahoma, near the town of Hess, to parents George and Mollie Pearce. He was
a 1949 graduate of Southside school, where he was the Class President. Randal joined the United States Air Force,
where he served for four years during the Korean War. After his discharge, Randal returned to Altus and worked as a
public insurance adjuster. He was baptized in the United Pentecostal Church and was an avid golfer and fisherman.
Randal also enjoyed people and often visited friends who were in the hospital.
Randal was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by three sons, Tony Pearce and wife Debbie of Altus,
David Pearce of Altus, Greg Pearce and wife Kim of Ponca City; one sister, Myrna Bryan; grandchildren, Tanner
Pearce, Trey Pearce, Justin Pearce, Tony Pearce, Kelly Pearce, Alex Pearce, Marcus Pearce; great grandchildren,
Jordan Casey Pearce and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pelfrey
Betty Joyce Pelfrey, 77, passed away Friday, July 20, 2007, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus
after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Betty was born November 28, 1929, in Altus to Jesse B. and Pearl Anna Mae (Norris) Sumrall. She graduated
from Altus High School and worked at AT&T and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for thirty-five years and
retired in 1987. She spent nearly all her life in Altus and Jackson County. She married Carl W. Pelfrey May 23,
1948, in Altus.
Betty is survived by her husband of 59 years of the home in Altus; three children, Carla Lowry and husband Jay
of Alpine, Texas, Gary David Pelfrey of Altus, and D’Anne Hawk and husband Bob of Kingwood, Texas; eight
grandchildren, Chris Pelfrey and wife Amber, Kasie Dobson and husband Michael, Kari Pucci and husband Frank,
Gary Pelfrey, Jr. and wife Jenny, Brook Singh and husband Gopal, Kyle Laing and wife Brooke, Brian Hawk, and
Lee Lowry. She is also survived by nineteen great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Pearl Sumrall, and one sister, Frances Newton.
Graveside Services for Betty Pelfrey will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2007, at Altus City Cemetery with Dr.
Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral
Home of Altus.
Aydin Rudy Peralez
Aydin Rudy Peralez, infant son of Ashley Roblez and Alejandro “Alex” Peralez Jr. passed away Sunday, April 30,
2006 at Childrens Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born April 20, 2006 in Altus, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his parents; Ashley Roblez and Alejandro “Alex” Peralez of Altus, Oklahoma; one brother
Jeremaiah Luna of Altus, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Irma Roblez and Matias
Roblez, Sr. both of Altus, Oklahoma; paternal grandparents, Alejandro Peralez, Sr. and Mary Lopez both of Pharr,
Texas. He is also survived by a host of other relatives.
A Prayer Vigil is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in
Altus.
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father
Joseph Arledge officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral
Home.
Peretto
Nova Faye Peretto, age 81, long time resident of Olustee, passed away Monday, February 28, 2005. Services have
been scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at the Prairie Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Ronnie
Chadwick officiating. Interment will follow in the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Nova was born October 29, 1923, in Olustee, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Henry and Vera (Billington)
Rosser. Her family moved to Houma, Louisiana where she graduated high school in 1941. On March 8, 1943, Nova
and Walter Peretto were united in marriage at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She moved back to Olustee, Oklahoma in
1960 where she raised four children.
Nova was a faithful, devoted member of the Prairie Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She was also
a member of the Olustee Home Extension Club. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and was an avid reader, but her
greatest love and enjoyment came from her children and grandchildren. She owned and operated her own book store,
“The Book Shelf” and also sold Sarah Coventry Jewelry for many years. Nova was a wonderful, active individual and
will be deeply missed by the many who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; and by one grandson, Terry Blakley, one brother,
Curtis Rosser, one sister, Lena Belle Briggs, one son, Glen Mark Peretto and one infant daughter, Glenda, and one
special aunt, Estelle Bacon.
Nova is lovingly survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Terry Blakley of Santo, Texas, Patricia and
Earnest Courture of Olustee, Oklahoma, and Sue and Roger Allen, also of Olustee; one son and daughter-in-law,
Steve and Darlena Peretto of Duke, Oklahoma; one sister, Marjorie Stuart of Magnolia, Arkansas; two brothers, John
Rosser of Lake Elmore, California and Noel Rosser of Moore, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Linda Rosser of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Joe and Krystal Blakley, Kelly and John Lewis, Gina and Jerald Williams,
Ryan Courture, Matthew Adams, Daniel and Brandi Adams, Brandi and Jeff Gobeille, Beau Allen, Shaunna and
Wayne Machtolff, Paul Lamb, Michelle Peretto and Cody Peretto; and 13 great-grandchildren and another great-
grandchildren expected soon.
Claud Edwin Perkins
Claud Edwin Perkins, age 85 of Altus, passed away October 21, 2003 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Services, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus, are set for 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 23,
2003 at the First Baptist Church of Altus. Dr. Jeff Moore will officiate and interment with full military honors will follow
at the Altus City Cemetery. The family will receive guests on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral
home.
Claud was born March 28, 1918 at Nuyaka, Oklahoma to Francis Lee Perkins and Ida Lawson Perkins. He attended
the Nuyaka public schools and joined the United States Army where he served in the infantry during World War II. He
was a veteran of the North African and Sicilian Campaigns. Claud was united in marriage to Gloria Childers on
December 12, 1945 at El Paso, Texas. After World War II, Claud stayed in the Army where he worked as a supply
officer and rose to the Rank of Major. He was proud of his military service and retired in the 1950’s. In 1969, the
family transferred to Altus from Cordell, where Claud worked in the Civil Service at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base.
Claud was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus, where he was very active. He was also a charter member of
Lions International in Cordell, and was a Lions District Governor in 1979 and 1980 for Altus. Claud also cooked for
the Salvation Army, was a volunteer driver for Southwest Transit and served as a board member at Red River Federal
Credit Union. Claud and Gloria also enjoyed volunteering every year at the Lions Boys Ranch in Perkins, Oklahoma.
Claud was preceded in death by his parents and twelve brothers and sisters. He is survived his wife, Gloria of the
home; two daughters, Gloria Irene Devol and husband Dale of Athens, Ohio and Julia Alda Crawford and husband
Mick of Okarche, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Ashley Devol of Athens, Ohio; nephew, Carl Childers, of Arlington,
Texas and many other relatives and friends.
PERRY
Kenneth (Ken) Murl Perry, age 78 of Duke, passed away early Saturday evening, June 17, 2006 at Jackson County
Memorial Hospital.
Ken was born on March 30, 1928 in Milfay, Oklahoma to the late William Thomas and Maudie (Hammond) Perry.
On March 11, 1950, Ken and Lurlene Hall, from Duke, were married in Quartzsite, Arizona. They made their home
in the Los Angeles area where they lived until 1986. At that time they moved to Yuma, Arizona, living there until
moving to Duke in June of 2003.
While in California, Ken was a partner in an auto parts rebuilding plant. In Arizona, he farmed citrus and established
a mobile home park. At the time of his death, he was still active in managing the citrus orchards.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, W.T. Perry, Sam Perry, Scotty Perry, Dewey Sally,
Chester Sally and two sisters, Julia Sally and Bessie Perry Clubb.
He is survived by his wife, Lurlene, of fifty-six years, a sister, Bonnie Perry Williams of Stark City, Missouri and
many nephews and nieces along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Kenneth (Ken) Murl Perry will be Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Prairie Hill
Cemetery with Richard Darby officiating.
Chester Arthur Peters
C.A. Peters, age 86 of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006, in Altus.
He was born March 1, 1920, in Duke, Oklahoma, to Chester Arthur Peters, Sr. and Gertrude (Phipps) Peters.
His father died when he was two years old. The family then moved to Mangum, Oklahoma, and later to Elk City,
Oklahoma, where he graduated in 1939 from Sayre High School. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State
College on a football scholarship before enlisting in the United States Coast Guard in Ft. Worth, Texas, in March
1941. He served on a Palmetto Tender until December 1941 and was transferred to the USCG Cutter, Taliapoosa
out of Savannah, Georgia. He served as a yeoman under a U.S. Coast Guard Commander and was subsequently
transferred to an auxiliary oil and gas tanker in the New York Harbor until his discharge in March 1946.
After his service duty, he returned to Elk City, Oklahoma, as a salesman for the General American Life Insurance.
While in Elk City, he was a member of the First Christian Church, a Past Quarter master of the V.F.W., a member of
the Kiwanis Club, and a Boy Scout troop leader affiliated with his church.
He married his wife, Bettie Tackett, August 8, 1947, in Clinton, Oklahoma. They lived in Oklahoma City while
he continued working for General American Life. The family moved to Altus in August 1948, where he established
the first Farmers Insurance Group, as district agent of five counties. He built his office at 712 N. Main, becoming an
independent agent, while building and selling real estate, setting high goals and standards for himself.
In Altus, he was a member of the First Christian Church, serving as an elder and deacon.
He was a past president of the Altus Independent Insurance Agents, past president of Altus Board of Realtors,
and served on the state Board of Realtors.
A member of the Lions Club, he later became a member of the Rotary Club and served as the club’s president for
a one-year term. A member of the Altus Masonic Lodge #62, he received his 45 year pin on September 2001 as a
Master Mason. He served as Past Exalted Ruler of the Altus Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post
4876, in Altus, Oklahoma.
He loved following his sons’ high school and college sports careers in football, golf, and wrestling. He was a long-
time football fan of Cameron and OSU.
He taught himself to make stained glass art and many family and friends were recipients of this labor of love. His
last work was a cross for the First Christian Church sanctuary, dedicated Easter 1999.
He loved to dance, golf, and fish. He also enjoyed the bridge clubs he played in with good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and a grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie; son, Tom of Altus; son, David and his wife Kathy, of Gulf Shores, Alabama;
son, Jerry and wife, Donna, of Guthrie, Oklahoma; grandson, Brett, of Guthrie, Oklahoma; grandson, Silas and his
wife Tracy, of Tupelo, Mississippi; granddaughter, Adrienne, of Altus, Oklahoma, and great-grandson, Braedon. He
is also survived by his sister-in-law, Faye Tackett of Orange Beach, Alabama; niece, Karen Tackett and husband
Todd Brooks of Jacksonville, Florida; nephew, James Tackett and wife, Amanda, of Dallas, Texas Tackett and
great-niece, Daisy, of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by several cousins.
Funeral Services for C.A. Peters is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Lowell-Tims Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family of C.A. Peters will greet friends Friday evening March 31, 2006, from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm at
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
