LUELLA DELANO
Luella Delano, 82, Hooker, Okla., died of cancer Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal.
She was born Dec. 25,1920, to John and Annie (Robinson) Mounts on a farm west of Alva, Okla.
She married Carl Delano May 19, 1940, in Enid, Okla. He died Oct. 24, 1990.
At the age of five, she and her family moved to Beaver County near Gray.
She attended school at Union School and graduated from Bethany High School in 1938.
She graduated in 1939 from the Venus Beauty School in Wichita.
She and her husband farmed in the Gray community.
In 1942 they moved to Dove Creek, Colo. were they farmed for seven years.
In 1948 they moved to Hooker.
She helped her husband with farming until her retirement.
She was a housewife and a member of the Hooker Order of Eastern Star and a past president of Rebecca Lodge. She helped with the costumes as a volunteer at the Chamber of Commerce, She was also a Texas County Election Board worker and member of Hagolu Club.
She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1953 and taught Sunbeams.
Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and spending time with family.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Brown and husband, Rick, of Turpin, Okla.; four grandchildren, Jamie Travis, Carl and Sara Johnson, Barrlow and Shawna Brown all of Turpin and Elizabeth and Mike Cannaley of Liberal; five great-grandchildren, Stephanie Travis, Ryan and Bradley Johnson, Brittney Cannaley and Dammion Brown; four nephews, Earl Mounts of Amarillo, Gene Mounts of Balko, Delray Mounts of Garden City and Duane Mounts of Perryton, Texas; four nieces, Lillian Winters of Balko, Marion and Michael Boales of Lancaster, Calif., Sharon Kay Moreland of Amarillo, Texas and Carolyn Sue Miller of Naple Valley, Wash.; several great-nephews and nieces; and a special friend, Connie Hagler of Rolla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; six brothers, Clarence, Sam, Charlie, Williams, Kenneth and John; and one sister, Stella Rietveld.
Funeral services
were at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Okla. with Bro. Ron Mimms presiding.
Interment
was in Ochiltree County Cemetery in Perryton, Texas.

MARTIN POPE
BALKO, Okla. -- Martin Pope, 74, Balko, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Ochiltree General Hospital in Perryton, Texas.
He was born Feb. 15, 1929, to George O. and Elizabeth L. (Kroeker) Pope in Gray, Okla.
He married Roselie Batt March 31, 1950, in Boyd, Okla. She survives.
He was a life-long Beaver County farmer and rancher, raising and breeding Gelbvieh cattle.
He drove a school bus for Balko school district for 37 years.
He was a 20-year member of Balko Lions Club, a charter member of the Elks Lodge in Perryton, and a member of American Gelbvieh Cattle Association.
He was a member of Apostle Faith Church in Balko.
Other survivors include two sons, Roy Pope and wife, Pat, Weatherford, Okla., and Terry Pope, Balko; one daughter, Kaylene Stewart and husband, Greg, Winchester, Tenn.; one sister, Anna Mae Malfeld, Melbourne, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Funeral services
will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Apostle Faith Church in Balko with the Pastor Edwin Waterbury presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.
HELEN HOOK
TYRONE, Okla. -- Helen Hook, Tyrone, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at Good Samaritan Center in Liberal.
She was born April 13, 1904, to Charles and Carrie (Chandler) Meyers in Kalona, Iowa.
She married Floyd E. Hook Nov. 23, 1923. He died Nov. 30, 1978.
She was baptized Sept. 17, 1905, in Amish, Iowa.
She moved with her family to Tyrone, Okla.
She worked as a seamstress in the Tyrone Community.
She was a member of Texas County Extension Club for 50 years.
She was a member of United Methodist Church and UMW in Tyrone.
Her hobbies included quilting.
Survivors include four sons, Ausbie Hook and wife, Becky, Enid, Okla., George Hook and wife, Maria, Baker, Okla., Don Hook and wife, Phyllis, Phoenix; Charles Hook and wife, Endine, Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Cordelia Stalcup and husband, Richard, Tyrone, Caroline Herd and husband, Bill, Chandler, Okla., and Marilee Smith, Tyrone; one daughter-in-law, Leone Hook, Liberal; one brother, Wheeler Meyers and wife, Anna, Hays; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant sons; one son Ivan; one brother, Bill; three sisters, Corinne Snyder, Pauline Simon and Bertha Light; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services
were at 10:30 a.m. May 12, 2003, at United Methodist Church in Tyrone with the Rev. Rick Trobaugh presiding.
Burial was at Tyrone Cemetery under the direction of Robert Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla.
MARY E. LEONARD
BEAVER, Okla. -- Mary Evelyn Leonard, 92, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in Oklahoma City.
She was born July 25, 1910, to William E. and Lena (Boykin) Holder in Meridian, Miss.
She married Dwight Leonard June 28, 1936, in Guymon, Okla. He died Dec. 17, 2002.
She graduated from high school and college.
She had been a resident on Beaver for most of her married life, except for the last two years.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Leonard, Philadelphia, and Tim Leonard, Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Beaver Presbyterian Church in Beaver with Bill Moore presiding.
burial will be at Pioneer Cemetery in Beaver under the direction of Clark Funeral Service in Beaver.
VELMA I. KASSIK
PONCA CITY, Okla. -- Velma Iverean Kassik, 89, died Tuesday, May 20, at Wheatridge Care Center in Liberal.
She was born Sept. 29, 1913, to Earl Edward and Rose Angeline (Lewis) Sweeney in Dacoma, Okla.
She married Fred Kassik Nov. 28, 1933, in Anthony.
He died Feb. 19, 1993.
She lived with her parents on a farm north of Dacoma until 1921, when they moved to a farm west of Dacoma.
She moved into Dacoma in 1972. She attended Dacoma schools and graduated with the class of 1933.
She was a member of United Brethren Church which later merged with Evangelical United Methodist Church.
She was a member of various organizations in the church and the community.
She taught Sunday School for several years.
She also served on the union Center Cemetery Board for many years.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Roger Kassik and wife, Pauline, Dacoma, two daughters, SHaron Higby and husband, Michael, Turpin, Okla., and Vickie Deaton and husband, Bennie, Satanta; six grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly and Rowdy McBee, Tammy and Leo Elms, Stacey and Monique Davis, Kevin Davis, Lynni and Gene Greb, and Dawn and Shawn Burkes; and six great-grandchildren, Taylor and Tanner McBee, McKinnley Higby, Koy Koehn, and Baye and gage Burkes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Wayne.
Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wharton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Glen Edmondson presiding.
Burial will be at Union Center Cemetery in Dacoma.
