JUANITA M. WOODWARD
TYRONE, Okla. Juanita M. "Nita" Woodward, 79, Tyrone, died Friday, May 9, 2003, in Liberal.
She was born March 2, 1927, to Oral D. and Violet E. (Morrison) Parker in Stevens County.
She attended school in Wide-A-Wake, Liberal and Hutchinson.
She had lived in Eads, Colo., for 10 years before returning to the Baker (Okla.) and Tyrone area.
She had worked at the VFW, Chuck Wagon Restaurant and the Mid-America Truck Stop for many years.
She was a member of Trinity Faith Church and the VFW Auxiliary, both in Liberal.
Survivors include four sons, Craig Kerfoot and wife, Jo, Hensley, Ark., James Hoskinson, Tyrone, Billy Hoskinson and wife, Diane, Chula Vista, Calif., and Wally Hoskinson, Fairfax, Okla., three daughters Jeannie Carter, Liberal, Esther Barkdoll and husband, Ernest, Sublette, and Lynn Hoskinson and husband, Roy, Pampa, Texas; four brothers, Jack Parker and Gene Parker, both of Eads, Norman Parker and Paul PArker, both of Dighton; five sisters, Jo Ellen Bullock, Friend, Neb., Pat Jones, Pueblo West, Colo., Lora Bentley, Rock Springs, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Barbara; two brothers; one sister; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Faith Church in Liberal with the Rev. Dee Estes presiding.
Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
GRACIE V. EDWARDS
BEAVER, Okla. Gracie Viola Edwards, 86, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at Beaver County Memorial Hospital.
She married Harvey Edwards in 1933. He died March 30, 1997.
She was a long-time resident of Beaver County.
She was a member of Beaver Methodist Church in Beaver.
Survivors include two sons, Dean Edwards, Beaver, and Lynn Edwards, Guymon, Okla.; one daughter, Shirley Hauth, Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services
will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Beaver United Methodist Church in Beaver with John Breon presiding.
Burial will be at Pioneer Cemetery in Beaver.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Service in Beaver.
HELEN HOOK
TYRONE, Okla. Helen Hook, Tyrone, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at Good Samaritan Center in Liberal.
She was born April 13, 1904, to Charles and Carrie (Chandler) Meyers in Kalona, Iowa.
She married Floyd E. Hook Nov. 23, 1923. He died Nov. 30, 1978.
She was baptized Sept. 17, 1905 in Amish, Iowa. She moved with her family to Tyrone, Okla.
She worked as a seamstress in the Tyrone Community.
She was a member of Texas County Extension Club for 50 years.
She was a member of United Methodist Church and UMW in Tyrone.
Her hobbies included quilting.
Survivors include three sons, George Hook and wife, Maria, Baker, Okla., Don Hook and wife, Phyllis, Phoenix; Charles Hook and wife, Endine, Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Cordelia Stalcup and husband, Richard, Tyrone, Caroline Herd and husband, Bill, Chandler, Okla., and Marilee Smith, Tyrone; one daughter-in-law, Leone Hook, Liberal; one brother, Wheeler Meyers and wife, Anna, Hays; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant sons; one son Ivan; one brother, Bill; three sisters, Corinne Snyder, Pauline Simon and Bertha Light; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services
were at 10:30 a.m. today at United Methodist Church in Tyrone with the Rev. Rick Trobaugh presiding.
Burial was at Tyrone Cemetery under the direction of Robert Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla.
OSCAR L. BYRN
WOODWARD, Okla. Oscar L. Byrn, 80, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Woodward Regional Hospital in Woodward.
He was born Sept. 29, 1922, to Ellsworth and Lillian (Wise) Byrn in Hallville.
He married Barbara Jean Carter Dec. 9, 1945, in Wichita. She died in 2002.
He was a teenager when his family moved to Wilsey, where after attending school he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in World War II in the 82nd Airborne. He was in the D-Day invasion, Battle of the Bulge, and the Liberation of Berlin. He received the rank of Sergeant and earned a Purple Heart.
He had worked in the oil field over the western and central U.S. In 1969, he moved to Woodward, where he worked as a truck driver for a pipeline construction company. He later purchased his own truck and operated it until his retirement in 1989.
He was a member of VFW Post No. 1335.
His hobbies included hunting and watching all sports.
Survivors include two sons, Max Byrn and wife, Sheri, and Jack Byrn and wife, Connie, all of Woodward; two daughters, Nancy Daugherty and husband, Charles, Woodward, and Diane McMoran, Coldwater; one brother, Darrell Byrn and wife, Sally, Salina; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
Graveside services
will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward with the Rev. Tony Barros presiding.

JESSE M. CUNNINGHAM
FORGAN, Okla. Jesse Morgan Cunningham, 72, died Saturday, May 10, 2003, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was born May 19, 1930 to Roy Morgan and Essie Mae (Strickland) Cunningham in Forgan.
He married Jean Boren Feb. 14, 1948, in Beaver, Okla. She died Aug. 19, 1971.
He graduated from high school and became an editor/publisher. He worked for the Herald Democrat Newspaper, the Daily Oklahoman, Vici Beacon, Lynn County News and the Avalanche Journal.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Colorado City Art Guild.
He had been a resident of Rye, Colo., for the last 10 years.
Survivors include one son, Mike Cunningham, Lubbock, Texas; one daughter, Cindy Pierson, Beaver; one brother, Lowell Cunningham, Gulf Shores, Ala.; two sisters, Rita Royce Reed, Shawnee, Okla., and Lois Reeves, Madill, Okla.; two grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Pioneer Cemetery in Beaver, with Michael Passmore and Mike Crow presiding.
Services were under the direction of Clark Funeral Service in Beaver.
ROBERT W. HOWELL
TYRONE, Okla. Robert W. Howell, 77, Tyrone, died Friday, May 16, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born Jan. 23, 1926, to James Madison and Mattie May (Corbit) Howell at his family's home in Tyrone.
He married Julia Eaton Oct. 2, 1948, in Amarillo, Texas. She survives.
He attended Tyrone schools and graduated high school in 1944.
He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He attended Panhandle State University for two years, then returned to the family farm.
He served on the Tyrone School Board for 10 years, and other local committees. He was currently on the board of directors of First National Bank of Hooker, Okla., the Tyrone Cemetery board, and as an advisor to the Leadership Class of Tyrone High School.
He was a member of Tyrone Baptist Church, where he served on several committees. He was song leader for 30 years, and taught an older Sunday School Class.
Other survivors include one son, Mike Howell and wife, Becky, Hooker; one daughter, Laurie Garrison and husband, Bill, Edmond, Okla.; one brother, Charles Howell, Syracuse; two sisters, Thelma Murphy, Tyrone, and Mildred Geist, Baker, Okla.; and four grandchildren, Josh, Stillwater, Okla., Chris, Hooker, Brian, Norman, Okla., and Jessica, Edmond.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, James Howell.
Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tyrone Baptist Church in Tyrone with the Brothers Ron Mimms and Gary Stone presiding.
Burial will be at Tyrone Cemetery in Tyrone.

STANLEY L. THOMAS
BEAVER, Okla. Stanley LaVerle Thomas, 64, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Beaver County Nursing Home in Beaver.
He was born Feb. 26, 1939, to LaVerle Barnett and Opal (McCay) Thomas in Beaver.
He graduated from Beaver High School, attended one year of college, and served in the U.S. Army.
He had worked for the Post Office.
He was a life-time resident of Beaver.
He was a member of Church of the Firstborn for more than 40 years.
Survivors include one sister, Carol Pugh, Beaver; and numerous other relatives.
Graveside services
will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pioneer Cemetery in Beaver with the Brother Danny Moss presiding.
