MAXINE SCHROEDER
HOOKER, Okla. Maxine Schroeder, 83, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
She was born Nov. 21, 1917, to Henry and Jessie (Jacobs) Hillman in Adams, Okla.
She married Ralph W. Clutter in 1935. He preceded her in death. She married Waldo Schroeder in 1964. He survives and resides in Woodlands, Texas.
She attended school in Adams.
She moved to California briefly after her first marriage, but returned to Hooker.
She owned and operated the 54 Diner and Maxine's Cafe in Hooker, and worked for 35 years in Guymon.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hooker.
Her hobbies included traveling.
Other survivors include two sons, Devon Clutter and wife, Phyllis, Hooker, and Jim Clutter and wife, Algene, Strong City; two stepsons, Wally Schroeder, Jr., and wife, Tammie, and Mark Schroeder and wife, Sylvia, Woodlands; one brother, Bud Hillman, Hooker; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Don Clutter.
Funeral services
will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Hooker with Brother Eddy Scoggins presiding.
Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery.

ARTHUR L. "ART" CARTER
FORGAN, Okla. -- Arthur L. "Art" Carter, 84, Forgan, Okla., died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal, following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 6, 1915, to Francis M. and Lillie L. (Ledbetter) Carter at Dombey, Okla.
He graduated from Turpin High School in 1936. He was a farmer-rancher cattleman. He was also a cattle breeder and raised registered Hereford and Angus cattle. He retired in 1990.
He was a member of the Forgan United Methodist Church, Forgan Golden-agers and Forgan Booster Club. He served on the Forgan School Board several years, was a former member of the Forgan Lions Club and Forgan FUN Club. He was very active in community and civic affairs.
He married Thelma L. "Nub" Eden March 29, 1936, at Liberal. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Cletus Carter, Forgan; two daughters, Iva Dene McCleary, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Chelle Gardner, Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Clara Clawson, Liberal; a stepsister, Roberta Ely, Fort Smith, Ark.; six grandchildren, Todd and Troy Carter, Forgan, Tisha Carter, Japan, Vicki McCleary, Salt Lake City, Corey Gardner, Tucson, and Kateisa Gardner, Madison, Wisc.; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Frank Ellexson; two brothers, Marion and Leo Carter; two sisters, Mae Sherill and Nellie Hacker; a stepbrother, Rondal Ellexson; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services
will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Forgan United Methodist Church, Forgan, with the Rev. Terry Fox presiding.
Burial will be at Floris Cemetery.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller Mortuary, Liberal, and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at Forgan United Methodist Church.
Memorials are suggested to Forgan United Methodist Church or to the Ronald McDonald House, Amarillo, Texas, in care of the mortuary.
RICHARD O. SHAFFER
GUYMON, Okla. -- Richard O. "Rick" Shaffer, 59, Guymon, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon.
He was born March 3, 1942, to Frank and Luetta (Northcutt) Shaffer in Tulia, Texas.
He married Fran Cook Aug. 29, 1969, in Perryton, Texas. She survives.
He moved with his family to Perryton in 1945, where he attended school and graduated from Perryton High School.
He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1964, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He moved to Guymon in 1965, where he established the Richard O. Shaffer Accounting Firm now called Richard O. Shaffer Management Services, Inc., which has served clients in the area for more than 35 years.
He was a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church.
He was a Kid's Inc. coach and volunteered with the Guymon swim team and Booster Club.
He was a member of the Guymon School Board, and also president elect of the Oklahoma State School Board Association.
Other survivors include two sons, Joel Shaffer and wife, Stacey, Oklahoma City, and Michael Shaffer and wife, Jennifer, Dallas; two daughters, Shelli Raines and husband, Mike, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Jana Shaffer, Arlington, Texas; one brother, Keith Shaffer and wife, Carol, Guymon; and one granddaughter, Katelyn Shaffer, Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Shaffer, who died in 1995, and Luetta Shaffer, who died in 2000.
Funeral services
were at 2 p.m. today at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon with the Revs. Mike Chaffin and Jim Jamieson presiding.
Burial followed at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to either Kid's Inc. or to the Guymon Schools' Education Foundation, both in care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.
RICHARD A. JEANS
ADAIR, Okla. -- Richard Allen Jeans, 80, Salina, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, in Wichita.
He was born Feb. 1, 1921, to William Beal and Laura (Dean) Jeans in Adair.
He married Mildred M. Durbin July 17, 1942, in Adair. She preceded him in death.
He grew up and attended school in Adair.
He had lived in Kansas for 25 years before moving to Red Willow County, Neb. In 1973, he and his wife moved to Lebanon, Neb., then to Salina in March of 2000.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He attended the Baptist church in Kansas and Oklahoma, and he was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
His hobbies included fishing and hunting.
Survivors include one son, Richard Allen Jeans Jr. and wife, Marcia, Wichita; three daughters, Judy Saindon and husband, Robert, Tescott, Cheryl Meserve, Liberal, and Vicki Fabrizius, Tampa, Fla.; one brother, Paul Jeans, Pryor, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one son, Donald Duane Jeans.
Funeral services
will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church near Adair with the Rev. Marty McCord presiding.
Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hope Cemetery near Adair.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the Key Funeral Home Chapel in Pryor.

LAVINA L. THRALL
HOOKER, Okla. -- Lavina Lou Thrall, 71, formerly of Hooker, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at her home in Amarillo, Texas.
She was born Nov. 23, 1929, to Levien and Leota (Day) Lorenz in Hooker.
She married Dwain Thrall Sept. 8, 1948, in Clayton, N.M.
She attended school in Hooker and graduated in 1947. She then attended Colorado Women's College in Denver, and was invited to play with the Denver Philharmonic. She was a pianist and vocalist.
She had been a resident of Hooker until 1977 when she moved to Amarillo.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Andy Thrall and wife, Pat, Amarillo; one daughter, Luain Hensel, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and one granddaughter, Leslie Thrall, Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Hooker with Brother Ron Mimms presiding.
Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

MERVIN HARDIN
FORGAN, Okla. -- Mervin Hardin, 44, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, in Beaver County, Okla., as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born Feb. 10, 1957, to James Allen and Audrey Lee (Rupand) Hardin in Sac City, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Jaxine, of the home; one son, Terrance Rine, Forgan; three daughters, Kendi Rine, Liberal, Jessica Hardin, Fort Scott; and Jodi Hardin, Missouri; two sisters, Pam Wallace and Linda Longstreth, both of Walker, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Forgan Christian Church in Forgan with the Minister Jim Sutherland presiding.
Burial will be at the Forgan Cemetery in Forgan.
Clark Funeral Service in Beaver, Okla., is in charge of arrangements.
TERRY ELSTON
BEAVER, Okla. -- Terry Elston, 47, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Northwest Texas Health Center in Amarillo, Texas, as a result of an automobile accident in Beaver County.
He was born Dec. 11, 1953, to Jack and Maxine (Love) Elston in Perryton, Texas.
He worked for the Beaver school system in maintenance and was a school bus driver for the Beaver schools.
Survivors include one son, Torry Elston, Moore, Okla.; one daughter, Nikki Elston, Moore; his mother, Forgan, Okla.; two brothers, Kris Elston, Rock Springs, Wyo., and Eric Elston, Forgan; one sister, Jaxine Hardin, Forgan; and grandmother, Patsy Love, Beaver.
Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Beaver High School Auditorium with Jim Sutherland presiding.
Burial will be at the Forgan Cemetery in Forgan.
