CLARENCE WILHITE
BEAVER, Okla. -- Clarence Calvin Wilhite, 92, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at the Beaver County Nursing Home in Beaver.
He was born Jan. 21, 1907, to Tom and Mary Lou (Livingston) Wilhite in Greer County, Okla.
He married Margaret Baker Sept. 1, 1930, in Granite, Okla. She died Sept. 3, 1990.
He attended school. He served in the United States Army, serving in Central Europe. He was a barber all of his life and was the adoptive grandfather of the local girl scouts.
Survivors include one son, Colbert R. Wilhite, Houston, Texas; one grandchild, three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services
will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Beaver United Methodist Church in Beaver with John Breon presiding. Burial will follow at the Pioneer Cemetery in Beaver.
Services are under the direction of the Clark Funeral Home Service in Beaver.
CARLYLE V. MILLIKAN
BEAVER, Okla. -- Carlyle Vonne "C.V." Millikan, 76, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in Shawnee.
He was born March 14, 1923, to Fred Earnest and Mary Viola (Hall) Millikan in Beaver County, Okla.
He married Ella Mae Leisher Nov. 8, 1942, in Oklahoma City. She survives.
He was baptized at Mountain View Baptist Church in rural Beaver County in December 1935 at the age of 12.
He graduated from Beaver High School in 1941, then attended Mechanics' School in Enid, Okla., and Technical Training in Stillwater, Okla.
He retired as a machinist for Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, and had worked for MacDonald Douglas in Tulsa, Okla., and Oklahoma City. He was also a security guard for Oklahoma Baptist University.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Shawnee.
Other survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Small and husband, William, Santa Rosa, Calif.; four sisters, Patricia Huddleston, Logan, Okla., Lavena Winfough and Jean Cordell, both of Havensville, and Rosemary Holloway, Arkhoma, Okla.
Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Beaver First Baptist Church in Beaver, with the Rev. Don Rogers presiding.
Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery, rural Beaver County, under the direction of Clark Funeral Service, Beaver.
GERTRUDE E. BORDEN
BEAVER, Okla. -- Gertrude E. Borden, 80, former Liberal resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Beaver County Nursing Home in Beaver.
She was born April 23, 1919, to Emil J. and Bessie M. (Howard) Shanske in Shattuck, Okla.
She married Roy I. Borden, Aug. 16, 1942, in Beaver. He survives.
She graduated from the Darrouzet, Texas High School in 1938. She moved to Beaver in the same year. She moved to Liberal in 1950.
She was a devoted mother and a homemaker.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Society, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebekah Lodge, the Kil-Kare Club and was a life member of the V.F.W. Lane Day Post No. 3166 ladies auxiliary, all of Liberal.
She was musically accomplished and could play the piano, organ, accordion, and guitar. She played for many gatherings and organizations in Liberal.
Other survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Koehn and husband, Gary, Liberal, Donna Sue McGee and husband, Wayne, Cloudcroft, N. M., Royanna Jean Borden, Liberal; two sisters, Ruth May, Beaver, and Dorothy Wilson, Paramont, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Shari Koehn, Eric McGee, Susan Koehn and Julee McGee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and one daughter, Ruthie Lacy.
Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Donna McGee and Larry Howell presiding.
Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 11 a.m Saturday at Miller Mortuary .
JACOB F. BALZER
HOOKER, Okla. -- Jacob F. Balzer, 97, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at the Hillsboro Community Medical Center Long Term Care Unit in Hillsboro.
He was born Sept. 24, 1902, to Henry and Elizabeth (Voth) Balzer on a farm four miles east of Inman.
He moved to Hooker in 1906 and attended the Fairview District School near Hooker. He also attended the German Bible School and Tabor College Academy, where he graduated in 1926.
He was a member of the Hooker Mennonite Brethren Church for nearly 83 years. He served as Sunday school teacher, church secretary, correspondent for the Zionsbote publication and
representative for the Mennonite Hilfs-Plan for many years.
He married Olga Friesen Aug. 26, 1928. They established their home eight miles south of Hooker. In 1954, the family moved to Olga's home near Adams, Okla. She died Jan. 26, 1964.
He married Lydia Plett July 17, 1965. They served two years under the Mennonite Brethren Missions and Services at the Home for the Aged in Corn, Okla. She survives.
He farmed three quarters of land for many years and enjoyed carpentry and gardening. Produce from the garden was often shared with neighbors and friends. He often opened his home to others, inviting them for a meal or ice cream and cookies.
He never missed his morning and evening devotions.
Other survivors include six children, Joelle and Josephine Balzer, Prairieville, La.; Elnadine Balzer, Larned; Ronald and Hijuan Balzer, Broker Arrow, Okla.; Howard Balzer, Buhler; and Ted and Janet Balzer, McPherson. Surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Brent and Amy Balzer, Sterling and Noelle; Charles and Carletta Morgan, Kaeli and Chaz, all of Prairieville, La.; Jerry and Tamara Hinerman, Micaela, Kianna, and Jonathan, Hillsboro; Wade and Kathleen Balzer, Joshua, Grace, Loretta, and Ruth Anna, Broken Arrow, Okla.; John and Roseann Francis, Samantha, Marissa, and Allison, Hutchinson; and Dori Balzer, Buhler.
Funeral services
were at 2 p.m. today, at the Adams Mennonite Brethren Church, Adams, Okla., with the Revs. Tim Sullivan and Frank Huebert presiding.
Burial will be in the Adams Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.

GERTRUDE MAY PRUETT
BEAVER, Okla. -- Gertrude May Pruett, 82, Beaver, Okla., died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Mercy Hospital.
She was born Nov. 13, 1917, to Jacob and Lillie Gertrude (Smotherman) Haack in Knowles, Okla.
She graduated from high school then attended Wichita Business School.
She married Oliver Pruett Jr. Dec. 21, 1939 in Enid, Okla. He died Nov. 24, 1993.
She worked in various businesses. After she had children, she dedicated the rest of her life to being a mother and homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Jacque Lippel, Judy Kerr and Brenda Pruett; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in Heritage Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City.
Graveside services
will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pioneer Cemetery, Beaver, Okla., with the Rev. Roger Neff officiating. Services will be under the direction of Clark Funeral Service, Beaver.
ANNA ROSE NORMAN
BEAVER, Okla. -- Anna Rose Norman, 77, Beaver, Okla., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Beaver County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 8, 1922, to Charles and Gladys Woodward Raff in Durham, Okla., in Roger Mills County.
She married Melvin Acker Sept. 8, 1939. He died May 9, 1991.
Her hobbies included crocheting. She made clothing for her grandchildren and was a loving person to family and friends.
Survivors include three daughters, Viola Ulrich and husband, Charles, Beaver, Mary Dunn, Pratt, and Maxine Hendricks, Elkhart; four brothers, Floyd "Hop" Raff and wife, Wilman, Hooker, Okla., Lem Raff and wife, Blanche, Hooker, Okla., Mike and Betty Raff, Lampoc, Calif., and Bill Raff and wife, Nell, Burns Flat, Okla.; two sisters, Lillie Humphrey, Dalhart, Texas, and Viola Moor, La Habra, Calif.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Russell, Kenneth and Pat; one sister, Elmina Dobbs; two daughters, Gladys and Savannah; one son, Melvin, and two great-grandchildren, Olita Mae and Savannah Rose.
Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hooker Church of Christ, Hooker, with Neville Buchanan officiating.
Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery, with Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Anna Rose Norman Memorial to be used for family expenses, in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.
SADIE NASH
HOOKER, Okla. -- Sadie Nash, 94, Hooker, Okla., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal.
She was born Aug. 5, 1905, to Daniel and Bertha (Fouty) Hampsten in Jasper County, Ill. She was the fifth of 10 children in the family.
The family came to a homestead northwest of Hooker in December of 1905. From 1911 to 1913, the family was in Missouri and Woodward County, Okla., then returned to Hooker in a covered wagon.
She graduated from Hooker High School in 1926.
She taught school the first year after she graduated from high school at Grand View, a one-room country school north of Hooker.
Other country schools where she taught were Lemon, Dague and Glen Rose, all in the Hooker area. Some she reached by walking a few miles or driving a Model T Ford.
She also taught school in Halstead, Pratt, Crested Butte, Colo., Chula Vista, Calif., and Canon City, Col.
She taught several years in the Hooker Elementary Schools, where she sometimes had relatives in her classes. One of the pleasures she had on return trips to Hooker was renewing friendships with former students.
During her years of teaching, she continued her education at Panhandle Agricultural and Mechanical College, Goodwell, Okla., Northwestern, Alva, Okla., and Western State, Gunnison, Colo., where she earned her bachelor's degree. After her graduation from Western State, she was offered a teaching position at Crested Butte, where she met her future husband, Clayton Nash, who had grown up on a ranch in that area.
She married Nash Aug. 25, 1944, at the home of his aunt in Ventura, Calif., while he was on assignment with the Navy in San Diego during World War II. He preceded her in death in 1968.
Hobbies included gardening and growing flowers.
In 1973, he moved from Canon City back to Hooker to be near family.
She worked with the Church of Christ at Canon City, then at Hooker. The children she taught in Bible class were very special to her.
She was involved with Black Mesa Bible Camp and worked there each summer for many years.
She was a member of the honorary teachers' organization, Delta Kappa Gamma, Texas County Retired Teachers and No Man's Land Historical Society.
Survivors include a brother, Floyd Hampsten and wife, Marjorie, Alva, Okla., and two sisters, Bessie Herald and Geneva Ray, Hooker; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers, Roy, Cecil, Lester and Otis Hampsten; two sisters, Essie Hoobler and Stella Griffin.
Funeral services
will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hooker Church of Christ, Hooker, Okla., with Glenn Walton, Amarillo, Texas, officiating.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. MST Friday in Canon City, with Randy Woodfin officiating.
