Mollie C. Carlton
Asher native Mollie C. Carlton, 96, died Wednesday in Edmond.
Survivors include two sons, Casey Carlton of Edmond and Gerald Carlton of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Emma Boyt of Shawnee and Laura Lightfoot of Wilberton.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Road Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park of Shawnee under the direction of Demuth Funeral Home of Oklahoma City.
W. Clarence Newman
Former Seminole County resident W. Clarence Newman, 89, Shawnee, died Tuesday at Golden Rule Nursing Home.
Survivors include his wife, Stella Newman, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, William N. and Cheryle Newman, Midwest City, and daughter and son-in-law, Eva Sue and James Sharber, Windfall, Ind.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Robertson officiating.
Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Richard Lee Murray
Shawnee resident Richard Lee Murray, 80, died Wednesday at an Oklahoma City hospital.
He was born Jan. 28, 1922, in Prague to John Ander and Dartney (Ray) Murray.
He attended Varnum Public Schools and married Elizabeth L. Bawcum, Oct. 1, 1950, in Oklahoma City.
He worked as a supervisor at Tinker Air Force Base.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth; one son, Stanley Murray; two brothers, Harold Dean Murray and Woodrow Murray; and a son-in-law, James Weldon.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-laws, Betty Lee Garrett and Rhonda Faye and Theodore Hill, all of Shawnee, and Linda Weldon and Jim Woods of Oklahoma City; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Ray and Maria Murray of Austin, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Churchwell officiating. Interment
will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.
Margaret H. (Sykora) Yates
Margaret H. (Sykora) Yates, 78, of Shawnee died Wednesday at her home.
She was born June 5, 1923, in Prague to Valentine F. Sykora and Anna M. (Najvar) Sykora.
She graduated from Prague High School.
She worked at Shoshone's Jewelers prior to her marriage to Thomas Clifford Yates on July 2, 1950, in Shawnee.
She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Susan Yates.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tom and Alissa Yates of Shreveport, La., and James Yates of New Orleans, La.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary Ann Johnson of Shawnee, Helen and Frank Appl of Edmond, and Jodi and Jack Rodgers of Shawnee; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Mary Sykora of Tool, Texas, and Gary and Pat Sykora of Lake Jackson, Texas.
Graveside services
will be 11 a.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating. Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel of Shawnee.
Roy Levi Payne
Roy Levi Payne, 78, of Konawa died Friday at an Ada hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Ozie Payne of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Linda Payne of Konawa; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Carroll Brock of Stratford; six grandchildren and their spouses; one brother, Rudolph Payne of Oregon; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Chapel of Konawa with Pastor Robert Teel officiating. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery of Konawa.
L.A. Simmons
L.A. Simmons, 73, died Friday in Shawnee.
Survivors include his son, Jimmy Simmons of Oregon; a brother, Robert Simmons of Glenpool; two sisters, Mary Lou Sullivan of Mammoth, Ariz., and Marcina Nunley of Chandler, Ariz.; and other relatives and friends.
Graveside military rites will be 11 a.m. Monday with Chaplain Charles Jones officiating at the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, Okla. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Services of Stroud.
Paul F. Nelson
Paul F. Nelson, 87, Shawnee, died Monday at his home.
He was born June 21, 1915, in Lilbert, Texas, to Francis Marion Nelson and Elizabeth Caroline (Walters) Nelson.
He attended high school in Brownville, Texas.
He served in the military for 32 years and was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army. He received the Bronze Star with cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Pearl Harbor Medal, American Defense with star, American and Asiatic Pacific Campaign with four stars, Army Occupation Germany and several other medals and citations.
He retired from Tinker Air Force Base.
He lived in Shawnee for many years and was a member of the Methodist church.
He was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Survivors include two close friends, Gladys Shaw, Shawnee, and Betty Daugherty, Shawnee; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Walker Funeral service with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
Gary Ray Blocker
Gary Ray Blocker, 60, of Prague died Friday in Midwest City.
He was born Feb. 16, 1943, in Shawnee to Orvil and Sarah Belle (Stewart) Blocker.
Blocker had lived near Prague most of his life.
He married Estella Belle Baker on June 29, 1962, in Belmont, Okla..
Blocker was a bricklayer and owned Allied Masonry Inc. for 24 years and he attended the First Baptist Church in Prague.
He was the past president of the 89's Wagon Train Association.
Blocker's parents and two brothers, Donald Blocker and Doyle Wayne Blocker, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Estella Belle Blocker, Prague; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanetta and Keith Moore, Prague, Brenda and Roy Baca, Prague; grandchildren, Scooter Baca, Dakota Baca and Danyelle McDowell; brothers and sister-in-law, Larry and Howie Blocker, Prague, Mike Blocker, Tecumseh; half sisters, Vandra Dawn Hale, Texas, and Linda Gail Spurrier, Texas.
Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Prague with the Rev. Tim Emmons officiating.
Burial will follow in the Garden Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Prague.
John C. Shoemaker
Shawnee resident John C. Shoemaker, 59, died Friday at a Shawnee hospital.
He was born, Dec. 31, 1943, in Maud to Paul Truman Shoemaker and Vera Dean (Eddy) Shoemaker O'Dell.
Shoemaker retired after 29 years of teaching history at Shawnee High School. He had earned his master's degree .
He was a member of Northridge Church of Christ.
A former Maud resident, Shoemaker was a Shawnee resident since 1979 and was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association. He wrote the book, "Fire on the Prairie."
He was preceded in death by his father in 1982 and three aunts.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Vera and Sam O'Dell of Norman; a former wife, Marsha Shoemaker of Tecumseh; a son, John Ryan Shoemaker of Shawnee; a daughter, Mardee Shoemaker of Oklahoma City; brothers, Sam O'Dell of Pampa, Texas, and James O'Dell of Norman; sisters, Paula Unruh of Snyder, Texas, Patricia Ann Taylor of Norman and Susan Fae Skaggs of Norman; an aunt and two uncles, Wilma and E.B. Smith of Spavanaw, Okla., and Tom Eddy of Franklin, Calif., and a number of nephews and friends.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Maud Church of Christ with Cliff Craig officiating. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery of Maud under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.
Valye Nell Fundis
Wanette resident Valye Nell Fundis, 73, died Saturday in Wanette.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Wanette with the Rev. Matthew Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Wanette Cemetery.
Viewing will begin at the family home beginning at 2 p.m. Monday. Other information is pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
