Marjorie Smith, real estate agent
Marjorie Smith, who sold real estate on Hyde Park Square for nearly 40 years, died Sunday. She was 96.
Mrs. Smith, who opened the real estate office with her husband, grew up on a farm that became part of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Hebron, Ky.
The couple moved to Hyde Park in 1950 to work for Myers Y. Cooper, a former Ohio governor who was a major builder and developer in Hyde Park. Mrs. Smith sold real estate and worked with Cooper's architect to design homes that Cooper built.
After Cooper's death, the Smiths opened the J.M. Smith Realtor office on the square in 1960, then moved to Erie and Zumstein to the Smith-Carnes Real Estate building.
Mrs. Smith's husband died in 1994. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Madge Carnes Hust. Survivors include grandsons Gregory S. and Gary B. Carnes.
Services were private, arranged by the Elden A. Good Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
