Augustine Duncan Miller, made wedding gowns
Augustine Duncan Miller was a gifted seamstress who made wedding gowns for more than 1,000 brides.
"She loved people, and she loved making people happy and having a part in their special day," said a daughter, Cheri Davis of Taylor Mill, Ky.
Mrs. Miller died Wednesday. She was 71.
Mrs. Miller began sewing clothes for her children as a means to save money, but she developed a real passion for outfitting brides, bridesmaids and flower girls.
"Girls from all over the Tri-State would come to mom to make their dresses," her daughter said.
Mrs. Miller would shop for fabric with the brides-to-be, customize the dresses without the help of patterns and rush to church to fix any last-minute, wedding-gown calamity.
Just hours before her death, Mrs. Miller asked her daughter to contact the brides-to-be whose gowns she would be unable to finish.
"I called these girls (Wednesday) morning, and it was the most amazing thing," Ms. Davis said. "No one was concerned about their dress. They didn't care about the dress. They all started crying about my mom."
Other survivors include her husband of 52 years, Beckham Miller; a son, Monte Miller of Taylor Mill; daughters, Becky Goodman of Williamstown, and Danae Bryant of Independence; brothers, Tommy Duncan of Warsaw and Dan Duncan of Grapevine, Texas ; a half-brother, Donald O'Connor of Warsaw; and seven grandchildren.

"He was a legend among us," said Father Valens Waldschmidt of St. Clement Friary. "He spent his whole priestly life as a very caring pastor.
"He helped many people by his counseling and spiritual care of them. He was a man who met people easily and made many friends.
"Although he was retired, he just kept on working. He really never gave up. He said he was ordained to serve."
A native of Hamilton, Ohio, Father Stephen, as he was known, entered the Order of Friars in 1931 and was ordained in 1939. He served as pastor or assistant pastor in six states.
