Eileen E. Biggs
MARION -- Eileen E. Biggs, 79, Marion, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Community Health Care Center.
Born Feb. 25, 1924, in Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Dortha M. (Bachelor) Dennis.
She married Osby G. "Bud" Dennis and he died June 1, 1982.
A homemaker, she was a member of the American Legion and Ladies Elks Lodge 32.
She is survived by a son, John C. (Sandy) Biggs, Findlay; two daughters, Barbara Ullom, Caledonia, Nikki K. Biggs, Dublin; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Barrett, who was of Marion, and a granddaughter.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Boyd Funeral Home with the Rev. C.L. Fuqua officiating. Burial is in Grand Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Mary Grace Stewart
MOUNT GILEAD -- Mary Grace (Matz) Stewart, 64, of Willow Lane, Mount Gilead, Ohio, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, in Riverside Hospital.
She was born in Greenville, Ohio, on Oct. 2, 1939, the daughter of the late Leland and Olive Cyphert Matz.
She received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Cincinnati. She worked as an art teacher for Marion Catholic and Marion City Schools. She moved here from Waldo in 1998. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and had been active in the Marion Meals on Wheels, Marion County Homemakers and the Ohio State University Extension Service. She excelled in creating and teaching others to create beautiful art and craft pieces.
She is survived by her husband, Paul C. Stewart, whom she married March 29, 1963; a son, Peter Stewart of Norfolk, Va.; two granddaughters, Justine and Jenelle Stewart; a brother, Marvin Matz of Boca Raton, Fla.; and a sister, Marta Kay Dale of Princeton, Fla.
A brother, David Matz, also preceded her in death.
Pastor Dennis L. Braun will conduct funeral services in Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Gilead on Friday at 2 p.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
Joseph Casey
MARION -- Joseph "Joe" Casey, 82, of Marion passed on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Marion General Hospital.
Joe was born in Ottawa, Canada, moved to New Jersey at a young age. He is a graduate of St. Benedict's Prep and St. Peter's College of Jersey City. He served in the U.S. Army as first lieutenant officer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret "Peg"; daughters Kathleen, Barbara, Mary and sons Jay, Jim, Jack and Michael.
Joe is also survived by 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Joe was a career sales management professional, enjoyed a passion for golf,, music and, most especially, his family.
Calling hours are arranged by Gunder/Hall and Folk Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, from 4-8 p.m., with parish prayer service at 4 p.m. Father Rod Damico will conduct the funeral Mass at St. Mary Church at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marion Catholic High School.
John A. Gilbert Jr.
MARION -- John A. Gilbert Jr., 40, Marion, died at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in the Marion General Hospital emergency room.
Born May 2, 1963, in Marion, he was the son of John A. Gilbert and Memory M. (Helms) Gilbert-Massey. His mother survives in Marion.
A lifelong Marion resident, he was employed as a certified home health aid at Health and Homecare Concepts in Marion for four years.
He also is survived by his stepfather, Herman Massey of Marion; a grandmother, Elizabeth C. Young of Marion; a son, Matthew A. Gilbert of Marion; a daughter, Kristen R. Gilbert of Marion; a companion, Katy Blevins of Marion; two brothers, Mike H. Gilbert of Marion and James H. Gilbert of New Bloomington; and three sisters, Melody M. Swartz and Ruth V. Gullett, both of Marion, and Carolyn A. Griffith of Meeker. He also is survived by a stepbrother, Paul Massey of Kenton; a stepsister, Mellissa Thomas of Kenton; a special cousin, Candy Bradley of Johnsville; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry L. Gilbert, and a sister, Sherry L. Gilbert.
Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, in Boyd Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, by the Rev. Richard McClinsey. Burial will be in Grand Prairie Cemetery.
Marguerite R. Wingett
WEST CHESTER -- Funeral arrangements are pending with the Boyd Funeral Home for Marguerite R. Wingett, 86. She died at 7:20 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Chesterwood Village in West Chester.
Geneva L. 'Sally' Griffith
CENTERBURG -- Geneva L. "Sally" Griffith, age 67, of Marengo, died Sunday morning, Dec. 21, 2003, at Heartland of Centerburg.
Friends may call Tuesday 4-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Wednesday 10 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Carnes officiating. Interment Bloomfield Cemetery.

Dwight C. Blayney
MOUNT GILEAD -- Dwight C. Blayney, age 88, formerly of Cardington, passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 21, 2003, at the Woodside Care Center.
Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, from 5-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Pastor Ronald Ellyson of Gilead Friends Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery with
military honors provided by the U.S. Navy.
Charles Thomas
MARION -- Charles Thomas, 53, 721 Kentucky Ave., Marion, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at his residence.
Born Nov. 13, 1950, in Kenton, he was the son of Harry John Thomas Sr. and Mildred Lucille Sibold Thomas.
He married the former Alison "Hope" Doggs and she preceded him in death.
He was an independent truck driver and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by a daughter, Cara Thomas, Walbridge; four brothers and sisters, Raymond Thomas, Casper, Wyo., Donna Artressia, Marion, Lucille Thomas, McComb, Harry John Thomas Jr., Milbourne, Texas ; special friend, Sandra Bennett, Marion, and her daughters, Ashley and Jesica Bennett; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Lee Thomas, and a sister, Patsy Fitch.
Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. today at Marion Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Williams officiating. Burial is in Marion Cemetery. Arrangements are by Denzer-Farison-Hottinger Funeral Home.
