Dennis Toepker, scientist, world traveler
Dennis C. Toepker, a world traveler, science and science fiction fan formerly of Cincinnati, died Sunday at the home of his father, Ralph Toepker, in Finneytown. He was 56.
Toepker, who has lived in Colorado in recent years, was an organic chemist by training and a world traveler by avocation. His family said he had traveled throughout the U.S. and vacationed in China, Thailand, Japan, Germany, Australia and Peru.
He loved the world of science, especially astronomy and astrophysics, and the world of science fiction.
A native of Cincinnati, Toepker graduated from Roger Bacon High School and received his degree in chemistry from Xavier University. He worked for the Procter & Gamble Co. at Ivorydale, then Miami Valley Laboratories until 1982 when he and his wife moved to Seattle.
Before leaving Cincinnati, Toepker was active as an outings leader for the Miami Valley Chapter of the Sierra Club and in teaching rock-climbing through both the Sierra Club and the University of Cincinnati's Communiversity.
He later worked for the General Electric Co. and a Seattle-based adhesives company until a heart attack and stroke put his career on hold in 1985. In 1992, Toepker moved to Colorado and began a career in real estate.
In addition to his father, Toepker leaves his wife, Anne McFarlane Toepker; a son, Chris Toepker; a daughter, Lisa Siegrist; a brother, Terry Toepker; a sister, Anne Glenn, and three grandchildren.
Friends may visit the family from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the home of Terry and Pat Toepker, 3852 Dakota Ave. No services are planned. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Th e Hodapp Funeral Home is in charge.

Joseph D. Landen, banker, veteran
Joseph D. Landen, retired Cincinnati banker and a member of the family for whom Landen, Ohio, was named, died Monday at Deupree Terrace, Hyde Park. He was 75.
The Landen area, now a major development of homes just north of Cincinnati in Warren County, was part of the family's original Landen Farm.
"Joseph's great grandfather was a veteran of the War of 1812, and the farm property was his bounty from that war," said his wife, Elizabeth Landen.
The clubhouse of the Crooked Tree Golf Course, just north of Mason, Ohio, is the original chicken farm barn, she said.
The Joseph and Mary Landen Park, named after Joseph's parents, stands on Montgomery Road near Landen on acres donated to the Warren County park district by Joseph Landen in 1976.
Joseph Landen was a native of Cincinnati and served in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II. He was a graduate of Yale University and Chase Law School.
A retired chairman of the Trust Department for the Central Trust Co., Mr. Landen was active in many civic groups. He was past president of the boards of Beech Acres, Dan Beard Council of Boy Scouts, Southwest Ohio Senior Services Inc. and the Episcopal Retirement Home. He also was a past treasurer of Children's Protective Services.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Landen leaves two daughters, Elizabeth L. Krone and Margaret L. Arnold; a sister, Louise Mary Landen and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Church of the Redeemer, Hyde Park. Memorials may be sent to the Children's Protective Services, 2400 Reading Road, or the Seven Hills School, 5400 Red Bank Road. The Elden A. Good Funeral Home, Hyde Park, is in charge.

William Lonneman, loved travel
Contentment blesses few people, but William Joseph Lonneman was one of the lucky ones.
He enjoyed his job as an engineering technician at the Kentucky highway department, where he kept track of the details of construction contracts and had worked for nearly 39 years. He loved his wife, with whom he traveled extensively, and his family of brothers, a sister, and nieces and nephews. He enjoyed his hobbies, especially his model train display that was the talk of his friends and neighbors at Christmas.
He was, as his family says, a happy man.
Mr. Lonneman, 57, of Burlington, Ky., died April 12 in Malaga, Spain. He and his wife, Mary Lester Lonneman, were returning from a two-week vacation when he collapsed at the airport in Spain. The couple had previously traveled to Switzerland, Ireland and England and had taken cruises.
Mr. Lonneman, who grew up in Fort Thomas, Ky., was an Air Force veteran and a chaplain's assistant during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of the Ohio College of Applied Science, Cincinnati.
