Clarence Steenken, ran family dairy
The Fort Mitchell Dairy was the type of place you don't see too often these days - a family dairy with freshly made egg nog and ice cream for sale.
The Steenkens milked their own cows, worked on holidays and rarely took time off, except to fish and hunt. Eventually, however, owner Clarence H. Steenken had to close the dairy in Fort Mitchell, Ky., because of competition from larger, chain stores.
Mr. Steenken, 79, of Burlington, Ky., died Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center.
"He was just a guy who worked all of his life. Everybody liked him. He ran into people all the time who knew him when he ran the dairy," said Betty Kinsella Steenken, with whom he recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Other survivors include a son, Terry Steenken of Fort Mitchell; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
