Dr. Frederick Brockmeier III, urologist, symphony member
Dr. Frederick Brockmeier III, 76, of Glendale, a retired urologist and member of the Northern Kentucky Symphony, died Monday.
After 41 years, Dr. Brockmeier retired from his urology practice in 1995.
Dr. Brockmeier, who had served on the Hamilton County Board of Health, also was a former vice mayor and council member for the Village of Glendale. He performed as a violist with the symphony until his death.
After graduating from Glendale High School, Dr. Brockmeier attended the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, studying viola and conducting.
World War II interrupted his career as a musician, when he was selected for medical school by the
military, ultimately graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 1948. Dr. Brockmeier was a veteran of both the Army and Navy.
He completed his internship at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati and his residency at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, before returning home to practice urology in 1954.
A volunteer professor of surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr. Brockmeier also was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He also was a former member of the Ohio State Medical Association's house of delegates. An Episcopalian, he was a lifelong member of Christ Church Glendale, where he served on the vestry.
Dr. Brockmeier is survived by his wife, Elaine Berry-Brockmeier; sons: Frederick Brockmeier IV of Fort Thomas; Alec and Louis Brockmeier of Glendale; daughters: Lisa Hitch of New Bern, N.C., Mary Brockmeier, of Sharonville, Sarah Brown, of Beavercreek, Ohio; sister Edith Brockmeier Tolley, of London, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren.

Madeleine 'Madge' Smith, Ursuline's 'Mother of the Year'
Madeleine "Madge" Smith Scheidler, 73, of Finneytown, the 1993 Ursuline Academy "Mother of the Year," died Sunday.
A 1944 Ursuline graduate and a 1948 graduate of Edgecliff College, Mrs. Scheidler volunteered for many causes.
The Ursuline Academy Mother of the Year award read, "It is without doubt her quiet and unassuming little ways of expressing deep concern for everyone about her that endear her to so many people."
Through 36 years at her parish, St. Vivian Church in Finneytown, she participated in volunteer work that included visits of encouragement, comfort and consolation to the elderly and terminally ill.
"Our mother set the standard for unconditional love and compassion," said her daughter, Anne McGraw, of Mount Lookout.
Other survivors include daughters: Janet Cremons of Anderson Township and Donna Gruber of Deer Park; sons: James of Anderson Township, Thomas of Loveland, Robert of West Chester and John of Montfort Heights; and a sister, Ruth Allgeier of Anderson Township.

George T. Wolnitzek, active in community, former commissioner
George Thomas Wolnitzek, 67, of Park Hills, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a superintendent of quality control at Ford Motor Co., Cincinnati, and a former Kenton County commissioner.
Mr. Wolnitzek was a past president of the Kenton-Boone Cable Television Board and a past chairman of the Big Bone District Boy Scouts, and a member of the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission.
He was a former manager of Adult Work Activity Centers Northern Kentucky Comprehensive Care and served on the Rosedale Manor Task Force and the MainStrasse Development committee.
He coordinated the county Disaster Emergency Program, served as director of the Panorama Senior Citizens Board, and was a Washington liaison for the Department of Transportation.
Mr. Wolnitzek was a member of St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright, a consultant to the Diocese of Covington, and a Navy veteran of the
Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Gardner Wolnitzek; daughters: Kimberly Small of Cincinnati, Beth Reisenberg of Fort Mitchell, Lisa Pohlgeers of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michelle Jones of Crestview Hills; a son, Mark D. Wolnitzek of Park Hills; brothers: Frank Wolnitzek of Florence and Harold Wolnitzek of Crescent Springs; sisters: Lucille Cox of Fort Mitchell and Rita King of Columbus, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.

Florence Erma Rose taught nursing while caring for many
Services were held this week for Florence Erma Rose, 72, of Finneytown, who is being remembered by her family and friends for her ability to care for so many people.
Mrs. Rose, who worked for many years as a registered nurse, died Sunday.
Her career as a nurse included teaching and training others in Saudi Arabia and in Alaska. She was affectionately known as "Rose" or "Mother Rose."
She was a graduate of Seton High School, the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Cincinnati where she received a bachelor's degree in nursing.
In 1956 and 1957 she worked for the Arabian American Oil Company as a teaching nurse in Saudi Arabia.
Later, she established a prenatal and infant-care training program for nurses in Alaska.
Before retiring as a registered nurse, Mrs. Rose worked at the Ridge Pavilion Nursing Home.
Her husband, Herbert A. Rose Jr., preceded her in death.
Mrs. Rose leaves sons Patrick Rose and Christopher Rose; a daughter, Cecilia Rose and a brother, Paul Feist. The Neidhard Minges Funeral Home, Westwood, was in charge of arrangements.
